How to use NGX 737 FMC and AutoPilot?

Featured Replies

Good day!

I recently bought the NGX 737 and I love it! I have 2 questions regarding it.

1 - Auto Pilot. I Came from using the stock 737 in FSX so I dont know what the LNAV AND VNAV do...I see everyone uses it in ILS landings but Im using to using VLOC and APP.

Somotimes I click LNAV AND VNAV and i dont get a green light saying its been activated...so, how do I use auto pilot for ILS landings (NOT AUTO LAND) in the NGX 737? On a side note...where is the NAV/GPS switch so i can pick which one to use?

2 - FMC.....All i know is to set fuel, ground connections and a few other things like putting in the air port but i dont know the waypoint part since I never have any....I need to know how to use the FMC so it can tell me when to put my flaps and speed and all that.... Please send a link of a video or anything useful that teaches this. Its almost impossible to have a real flight without it. PLEASE give me a good starter flight plan for this so I can learn and last thing, SIDS, I dont even know where to find mine or what it is.

Thank you In advance

I don't usually say this but you should really do the tutorial flight. Be glad I'm the one telling you lol

It seems like that would help you most

Both tutorial flights and this:

The NGX doesn't feature a GPS/NAV switch, as LOC and APP effectively control the NGX during an ILS approach. GPS has effectively been substituted by the LNAV/VNAV stuff in this VERY advanced airliner and systems simulation.

So, just (carefully and consciously) choose your modes ...

Look at my sig, mate. At least read the intro, there's already a lot of info there to get you started, and do the tutorials! Repeat them at your own speed until you get comfortable with the flows and such. ^_^ Good luck and have fun flying this beauty

Well, how do you activate PMDG 737-NGX  "GPS" or "NAV" if no switch is present?

There is no GPS in the 737. Did you do the tutorial flights?

No tutorial because I thought 737 is similar to 747 and 777 so, I will do tutorial to find other new things that make differences to 747 and/or 777

All the PMDG Boeing aircraft work in a similar fashion for enroute navigation. These aircraft DO have a GPS, but in the simulation (and in the real aircraft), it is not used directly. Navigation is done in LNAV mode, with the aircraft following the flight plan route entered in the FMS. The FMS in turn gets the aircrafts’s current position primarily from the GPS, with the IRS as a backup.

Based on your question about a NAV/GPS switch, I suspect that your experience up to now been in flying the default FSX/P3D aircraft, using the sim’s built in flight planner to create GPS routes. The PMDG (and real) 737 doesn’t work that way.

The same advice given to the original poster on this thread still applies: Do the tutorial flight, and repeat it as often as needed. There are many good instructional videos on YouTube as well.

First, thanks for the advice and help. I learned NAV switch from upper panel of 747 and 777 as well. I don't see NAV switch from 737 so learned about this too. Before take-off I set LNAV and VNAV. I can activate LNAV only after take-off with 737 NGX. I flew from OMAA rwy31L to OMDB rwy30R and LOC didn't lit but APP did by itself and landed. I am learning 737 (just installed in P3Dv4 3 days ago). Now, I am going to do tutorial to learn even more.
