  1. Good day! I recently bought the NGX 737 and I love it! I have 2 questions regarding it. 1 - Auto Pilot. I Came from using the stock 737 in FSX so I dont know what the LNAV AND VNAV do...I see everyone uses it in ILS landings but Im using to using VLOC and APP. Somotimes I click LNAV AND VNAV and i dont get a green light saying its been activated...so, how do I use auto pilot for ILS landings (NOT AUTO LAND) in the NGX 737? On a side note...where is the NAV/GPS switch so i can pick which one to use? 2 - FMC.....All i know is to set fuel, ground connections and a few other things like putting in the air port but i dont know the waypoint part since I never have any....I need to know how to use the FMC so it can tell me when to put my flaps and speed and all that.... Please send a link of a video or anything useful that teaches this. Its almost impossible to have a real flight without it. PLEASE give me a good starter flight plan for this so I can learn and last thing, SIDS, I dont even know where to find mine or what it is. Thank you In advance Mirakledba
  2. So i did a landing comparison of the FSL320 vs. the FF320. A sidestick camera is included in both videos. Conditions are relatively the same during both landings. Variable winds /w light turbulence. I made more adjustments than needed to show the differences in response and feel. Enjoy P.S. I don't intend starting a war over which is better. 3. Hi everyone, I have been using P3D 4.1 for quite some time now, and I feel quite confident in terms of my flying ability etc... however there is one thing I'd like to know about regarding Active Runways. For example, Active Sky Next tells you in the "Conditions" tab for a specific airport what the "Runways in use" are there. Basically, does this refer to LANDINGS or TAKEOFFS? or possibly both? I've been under the assumption that it means both takeoff and landing. For example at EGKK (Gatwick), it says runways 26L and 26R are currently in use, so does this mean both can be used for either takeoff or landing depending on the wind? I hope I've made sense! --Yorkie
  4. Hello all, Just a little something that I thought I would share with you all. if you're interested in seeing how hard your landings are (for *every* landing!) here's a little Lua script for FSUIPC (I believe you need the payware version for it to work!) I can't take full credit for it, as I found the basic version elsewhere. I just added a few lines here and there. Basically, every time you land a little box will pop up at the side of the screen showing you how hard your touchdown is in Feet Per Minute. The box will then disappear after 15 seconds. Simply copy this code into a text file and save it as "ipcReady.lua" in your FSX/P3D Modules folder. Start the sim and get practicing! ipc.setowndisplay("FPM", 0, 60, 6, 1) function logvs(off, val) if val ~= 0 then -- if on ground flag just set, get VS, convert it and log it vs = ipc.readSD(0x030C) --original was 030C then 31A0 vs = vs * 60 * 3.28084 / 256 ipc.log("Vertical speed at touchdown = " .. math.floor( (vs * 10^2) + 0.5) / (10^2), 5) ipc.display(math.floor( (vs * 10^2) + 0.5) / (10^2), 15) end end -- set to call above routine whenever "on ground" flag changes event.offset(0x0366, "UW", "logvs") Hopefully some people can add some additions and we can improve it together!
  5. I'm have a problem with wind changes during landing in P3D 4.1 with AS4. Yesterday I had a flight with a Cherokee to Antwerp (EBAW). The metar for this airport in AS4 showed that the wind was 238/8 knots. During the approach for runway 29 the wind was correct, but when I was ready for touchdown the the wind changed suddenly to 30/33 knots for the last 10-20 feets. So the airplane was pushed in the sky again because of the strong winds and it turned diagonal towards the runway. I have performed a missed approach and when I was climbing the wind changed again to normal. I made a second attempt and during this approach the same behavior was observed. On the AS4 map I saw that the metar of the weather station was correct, but when I clicked on the aircraft symbol the displayed wind was the strong wind and there was also a red text about wind shear. So it seems that AS4 is causing some wind shear around the aircraft and this wind shear is following the aircraft during some time around the airport. This is not very accurate. Wind shear is happening during a very short time period and it should be different every-time it happens. I have seen this behavior already several times in AS4. Yesterday evening there were some thunder storms in the area so wind shear was a possibility. But when I fly to Tenerife South (GCTS) with an airliner I see this behavior during every landing on runway 08, also in perfect weather conditions. With an airliner there is no time anymore to correct the flight when the wind changes suddenly the last 10 feet because the airplane looses the its lift and it will come down very hard. Do other users have this same experience with AS4? What can we do to prevent this behavior? Is there a way to have some realistic wind shear in AS4? Best regards, Snoopy Belgium
  6. Wondering if anyone can help? I've followed the guidance in this video and I find the plane lands correctly about 70% of the time. The other occasions I end up crashing as the autopilot has brought me down too steep. What can I do to resolve this and what am I doing wrong on those occasions as from what I can gather I'm following the same procedures. Thanks in advance.

  8. Hello everyone, Its been a while since Iv'e posted a topic on AVSIM and this time I'm a little confused on the 'Minimums' callout upon landing. I already know that the Minimums is the lowest altitude you can get before touching down on the runway (correct me if I'm wrong). However, I was watching a video and the guy in it was landing and while doing so, said that he forgot to set the minimums and began to do that. I never knew you had to set minimums. So the question is: How do I know my minimums and how to set them (on the 737 like PMDG)? Please answer clearly so I don't get a headache while reading it Thanks for your answer, JWMuller

Seeing the details (speed, decent rate, engine kill, flare details, etc) makes it much easier to learn to land because you have very specific things to model and practice. View Video

  11. Name: The Maderia Approach with PMDG 737 NGX Category: FS Instructional Videos Date Added: 27 May 2014 - 03:11 PM Submitter: Martinair50 Short Description: Doing one of the most dangerous approaches in the world on FSX. One of the most dangerous approaches in the world. This is exactly how the Visual 5 VOR to LPMA procedure should be executed. Please watch in HD! The video starts off with me approaching the Missed Approach Point (MAPt), you can see this point on the navigation display as MA05. From this point on I should have the runway in sight and the VOR part of the approach pretty much ends and I am fully visual. At around 6 DME from FUN at around 900 feet I should switch off the autopilot and start my base turn towards the runway, to cross the waypoint GELO at 850 feet. From then on I follow the approach lightning that brings me right in front of runway 05 of Funchal Airport. Thank you for watching please, subscribe rate and comment! NGX and Idle thrust on touchdown

Hi, I currently made "the Step" from FS9, to FSX. (yes it took a while). I'm currently setting things up and getting ready to fly. My main aircraft will be the NGX, with CH Yoke and Throttle Quad, FSUIPC. After hours of tweaking, and not getting the reverse thrust to work with the "below detent" position of the throttles, I decided to assign reverse thrust to a separate lever. That works too, -when on the ground. Obviously, the throttle must be idle in order to apply reverse thrust, however, for some reason the throttle of the NGX "creeps" up to about 42% N1, whenever I try to put it in idle before, during, and just after landing. It takes a good deal of braking before the throttles reacts normally, and REALLY goes idle, enabling reverse thrust to be applied. And by the time that occurs, the whole point of reverse thrust is gone, as would the aircraft be on a wet and short runway. In FSUIPC, I have disabled the reverser option in my throttles page, and calibrated them to be "idle" a bit above the physical stop of the lever, just to be sure. But still I get this creeping throttle when airborn and landing. Any help is much appreciated! Regards Johan

    ILS problems for 777

Hi sir, I just want to ask a question regarding on my experiences with the ILS for your 777. Im having some problems whenever i go off track of the STAR so that i can take a shorter route but every time i do this, the ILS frequency disappears on my PFD. If i follow the STAR the ILS frequency is still on my PFD and it follows the LOC. One other thing, if i go off track of the STAR and try to line up on the ILS, every time i press the LOC, i can see a HDG on the bottom of LOC. I just want to know on how to do an ILS approach if i go of track of the STAR. I hope to hear from you, sir. Thanks, Francis
  14. Hello! I have an issues that I never used to have......Once im close to the runway and all straighten up with the run way, the pink diamond starts to move down, When that happens, I press approach hold (app) and it keeps going low and makes me crash before the runway! When do i click approach hold?? When the pink diamond STARTS to move or once its in the middle? Please help! This is for FSX, ILS landing.
  15. Hi guys, as title says. Which is your technique? I have no problem when try to land manually after passed 1000' AGL, disconnect A/P and A/T and land safely enough. But if I want to practice manually all the approach from IAF to FAF I have a lot of difficulties to keep the aircraft on correct glide path. I try to maintain the G/S adjusting the throttle and pitch manually, but most of the times I am to high on final and with an incorrect pitch configuration. The aircrat upon on final regains altitude and I have to make a go-around. How do you perform your manual landing with this great aircraft? Thanks in advance, Ric
  16. Hey everyone, I downloaded Project Opensky's Korean Air 747-8i and completed a flight to Seoul/Incheon Intl. and as I often do, after landing and taxing onto the runway exit I watched the landing in instant replay from the external locked spot view mode, it was only then that I noticed a bizarre smoke trail from underneath the tail-end of the fuselage and also that my auto-spoilers had failed to deploy, because the landing went fine (although I did notice that it seemed to take a while to slow down to a suitable taxi velocity), I did not suspect anything of real concern whilst I was in virtual cockpit view. Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing the smoke trail and failure of spoilers to deploy? I've have uploaded the replay to YouTube (below) for you to watch so you can see what I'm talking about. Thank you in advance for your assistance

  18. Been simming for sometime but, I mainly stick to ILS landings and when I do visual approaches it's usually to airports I'm familiar will. I run into problems on visual approaches and landings at airports I'm less familiar with. Obviously, ATC will guide me to a certain flight level but once the approval is given for landing I'm on my own. Don't really have problems lining up with the runway but, I always have issues with altitude. Question; is there a standard way to use the A/P (VNAV) on visual approaches? Just to help with altitude? I know about the FPM calculations but is that what your guys/gals do? Or, do you really just fly it by hand? If so, do you practice approaches and landings at particular airports you plan to fly to? If you're truly able to "wing it" what helpful advice can you give? Is it just practice, practice and more practice? What works for you?
  19. I have been trying to improve on some of the landing light textures for the POSKY A330 and the Project Airbus A380 as follows, but whenever I alter one of the lighting textures, they no longer switch on and off with the landing lights (glare from the landing lights remains on the fuselage even when the lights are off). For the feelThere E195 I have also been trying to find any lighting textures at all which will switch on and off with the landing light and tail logo switches in the cockpit. POSKY A330 I am trying to improve the textures on the vertical stabiliser, which are patchy and inconsistent on each side - but lights cease to operate properly whenever I alter a file; Project Airbus A380 I have added a nice glare on the fuselage from the landing lights as there was none before, and have the same result as for the A330! feelThere E195 None of the standard or add-on lighting for landing lights or tail logo is operable by the cockpit switches. Whenever any of the lights are on, the tail logo is lit and the landing light glare on the fuselage is there regardless of the position of the switches or the status of the landing lights. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to resolve these issues? Regards, brianlr
