My gawd....what the heck did they do?!?!?!? WOW!

Featured Replies

I am no fan-boy of any sim....I tell it as it is...good or bad. If if stinks...I will say so...no matter how much money I have invested in a sim.  If it is great...well...my M.O. speaks for itself.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have just spent about half an hour with 10.30b1...and I will say, that this is the most responsive, the absolutely SMOOTHEST animation of any flight sim on the planet, today..this very day. What the h*ll did LR do with the jump from 10.25 to 10.30?~?~?~?

My gawd....but my system with 10.30 is pumping out FPS...well...I have it locked to 30...and it is BANGING, no...wanting to STOVE IN the 'door' and go beyond 30.  WOW...oh...WOW...

Coming into KFNT on final....coming in over a very well populated and animated I-75 (Michigan...near Flint...) is so darn responsive...that I am almost over-controlling the aircraft (Carenado 377 SkyMaster)  You know that I have been lauding P3D...and for good reason. It is a great sim...with great features.  But it doesn't hold a CANDLE to the now reining champ of animation smoothness and advance. That is XPX.30!

I declare to date...this very second...XPX.30 the standing-alone-out-in-the field  CHAMP of system performance....my gawd...but truly!   Jerk?  Only at the soda shop.  Stutter...only if you have a thick tongue....but not seen, the aforementioned, in THIS SIM, post v.30b1!!!

WOW......

I'm thoroughly enjoying the new graphics, the absolutely STUNNING animation performance...and am blown away...from the massive leap, from .25 to .30.

And this is still BETA!!!!    Congratulations to Laminar Research and Team.   Well done....VERY ...well done!   Again...congratulations...there is real...tangible performance...oh hell....massive, and if Google can use the term in their Android system...as 'Butter'.....Laminar just piled into .30 beta....the entire creamery.....

Stunning....and again...to the Laminar Research Team....back slaps and congrats.  The wait was worth it!

May I ask what video card and settings you use?

When you say "animation performance", do you mean the animations of the aircraft or scenery elements, or the smoothness in general?

Total.....TOTAL...smoothness from taxi...through lift-off...through panning through all views....in other words...total in-sim operation.  Aircraft and Scenery transitions. This is fabulous...and I mean that as an understatement!  Atmospherics is also ten out of ten!

I was just coming back here to say that one of P3D's great strengths..was its clouds....the vaporous and fragile feel of them as you pass through the clouds (singular), or as a base layer. WELL...guess what?    XPX.30b1 is giving you that exact same feel.  This is fantastic.  I highly suggest that any one that has not downloaded a trial copy of XPX.30b1...to do so ASAP.  You are going to be amazed...that you will think Santa Claus...came down the chimney...and gave you a little hardware 'spruce up' during the night...LOL!  The performance, system wide, is that good.  I do not know what they did...but, tweak would not be the proper term...they took a baseball bat to it....WOW!

My system (including my g-card make and model)is in my profile setup..

Do a look-up of my other posts in this forum...about two months ago...and you will see a screen capture of my in-sim settings. I have not changed them, other than I now can have shadows to Global-Medium, instead of 3D on aircraft.  That is the only change I did.  I experimented a moment ago with Extreme Rez...but did not like it (personal choice)..found it TOO busy..and went back to Very High, which I personally prefer. I am pounding away a STEADY....30 FPS, in all views..all flight parameters...simply amazing.  In fact...it is like the sim is upset that I am holding it to an artificial lock down of 30 FPS, LOL!   Honestly...it gives me that feed-back...like "c'mon....what gives with this....open me up.....lol!".....   I'm having a blast around Berlin, with all the third party goodies out there...

I haven't installed 10.30 yet, but I will. I'm glad to see such positive reactions to it. I really believe and hope XPX can stay in the race to give P3D some serious competition in the years ahead.

And please share some screens, a screenshot is worth a thousand words

I'm about to get back to my more fully exploring the 'totally new' sim.   Don't worry...for what I've been seeing, experiencing the last hour or so...no worries...the game shall now be played out between Lockheed Martin's P3D...and a very serious, 'finally-stepped-up-to-the-plate'........Laminar Research's XPX.30b1 and beyond.  Life is...GOOD!

Nice to read these euphoric statements.

However, it all depends on the system and users with low-end systems will probably not notice that big differences ;)

What I like very much is the new GPS (GNS430/530). Finally this device is actually usable and useful.

I just came here to also say (in flight...on pause, near Toronto, Ontario, Canada...out of a custom CYTZ) that I cranked up every feature of the sim to full...and took my system down to 18 FPS as for a load-test...and it STILL gave dead smoothness, progressing through the flight, even at 18 FPS!   They must have really massaged the code...and delayed putting this out until it was right...at least the way I see it, in using .30b1. Back to the flight...taking a 3,500 ft cruise down the St Lawrence, and then on, and out to Nova Scotia, via a flight over Quebec City....and having a blast doing it!

Mitch

18fps in a simple GA aircraft, and that's without any realistic Ai or real world weather.

You are not comparing apples to apples here Mitch,

Mitch, I hope you have already ordered your RAM upgrade ... otherwise, when the long range visibility feature is finally introduced (with double amount of DSFs loaded and almost doubling RAM usage), you might become less happy (though, you might still be happy by disabling - I think it will be by default anyways - long range vis). ... You know what I mean B) :

Good, bad, or indifferent, I'm at the max (12 GB) I can go on my XPS 730x.    So, it will have to be, whatever that brings on.  Wish me luck, lol.   XPX.30 and P3D V2.2...I am certainly not bored... :)

Mitch, I am with you on this one. I am blow away. Everything maxed Non-Hdr with the exception of clouds. 3 cloud layers cirrus, stratus, cumulous 25% coverage and I am sitting locked and 30 and varying fps between 25 and 30 or so. It is smooth as silk. I am running an 17 2600k @ 4.8 with a 760 with 4gig of mem. This was on approach to 34R KSEA at dusk. Did a touch and go and headed to the skyline. No variance at all in smoothness. Unbelievable. My hat comes off to the devs for such a wonderful fine tuning job with the code. I did have an incredibly long load time though. In fact, I had to terminate the app. Once it loaded again I was asked if I wanted to load with previous settings I said Yes. This time it loaded with no issues. This happens every time mind you. Not sure what is going on here, but maybe I just lost patience waiting. Thought I would give the 32 bit version a go as I am just a little curious.

Not necessarily....look at may pc settings, by today's standards it may be considered low to mid-end.

I agree with Sesquastoo, I too notice a jump in frames while using the following settings:

Texture resolution (very high)

Number of trees (filled in)

Number of objects (mega tons)

Number of roads (tons)

Number of cars (siberia)

HDR (2X SSA+FXAA) all the time.

Anisotropic (16x)

World detail (medium)

Airport detail (extreme)

Shadow detail (3d on aircraft)

Water reflections (none)

Cloud detail (25%)

LFOV (70)

with 10.30b1, I can maintain 30fps (locked) most cases, the exception would be if flying with Carenado C90 King Air, which drops to lower 20's in large cities.

Im very pleased with what LR did in terms of performance and the cloud transitions are stunning.

Personally, I would consider your system mid-end at least.

With low-end I mean something I use: a Core i5, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia GT530 (2 GB dedicated RAM). THIS is low-end ;)
