Any good atc addons?

Featured Replies

I thinking about to buy Radar Contact. But does it replace fsx standard, and its a keybord controls like standard fsx?

And for PFE, im too lazy. I already have FDC live cockpit. Im to lazy to configure and start two programs each time i want to fly.

And i heard you can install atc chatter for FDC live cockpit, is that true?

Radar Contact is button-cotrolled, unless you go for even another payware addon (like MCE) that provides voice control for RC.

RC does not replace default ATC. RC is a separate application (but it's easy to set up and to use), and you have to turn default ATC off in FSX.

PFE interfaces nicely with FDC as these two addons come from the same developer (oncourse-software).

FDC offers an option to install "canned" ATC chatter (not related to AI traffic around you); the manual should give the details (the 2nd, larger manual, only available as an included pdf file, is the better source).

What happened to AVSIM

As for PFE, overall it is a better ATC addon(IMHO) if you don't care much about SIDs and STARs. Because, although, it lets you fly SIDs and STARs, it won't assign them for you dynamically. You have to tell it which where the SID ends and where the STAR starts. It

VoxATC doesn't really do this either, you still have to set up the first two waypionts of a SID/STAR for VoxATC to "officially" assign it to you otherwise it just vectors you. Although I've found it still does this anyway on STARS regardless

Thanks for the tip regarding the weather and flight cruise.

Just been on the PFE forums and it sounds like you have been having a nightmare with it!

Yes because i didn't thoroughly read manuals but with the help of others i quickly understood it after 4 flights and like i said previously i'll also help out whoever needs the help. now i wish i did stick with it like mad dog said in this post because i love it now and it works great. nothing is perfect don't get me wrong like anything else but for ME its an addon i would recommend to someone who has patience and listens and knows a some sort of basic flight planning and thought :)

Vox has always assigned me Sids/Stars dynamically. True that it will vector you at some point in the STAR but you have the option of requesting a full ILS approach.

With all the ATC's that have been mentioned nobody has mentioned ProATC X. I believe this is the new boy of the group and as such should have the best of all of them. Is this not the case.

I have used in my time RC4, PFE and Vox. All of which have there advantages and disadvantages and it seems like personal preference. My least favourite was RC4 because it does not use SIDs or STARs, does not go to the gate and does not control AI traffic, however it is easy to set up, basically load up your flightplan and fly. PFE is good with all the different accents, it does take a bit longer to set up but it is the same as flight planning and can be quite quick when you get used to it. It does not assign SIDs and STARs as it has no navdata, but you can set which your using, where the route points are and it will read them out over the air, you are then clear to fly them. It also goes gate to gate which is more realistic. VoxATC is slightly different as it is voice controlled, no keyboard pressing and you use your own voice instead of somebody else's, this is handy if you use FS2Crew and want it a bit more realistic, however you can use voice on the other two with the aid of MCE. It does tend to sound robotic as it uses TTS voices, however by doing this it can assign you SIDS and STARS by name from the navdata and you are not stick to the words recorded. It also goes gate to gate, controlling your taxi and giving hold points as you cross runways. Also because it controls the AI traffic it knows where all the other planes are and can ask you to hold as you taxi and you don't end up with planes landing on top of you.

I am still undecided as to whether use Vox or PFE with MCE.

That name bespeaks evil to such an extent that it should not be spoken aloud.

Is it that bad. I thought it was billed as the be all and end all of ATC addons. I know it had teething problems in the beginning.

I know it had teething problems in the beginning.

The beginning has never ended, therein lies the problem

Recently I was having an issue with PFE causing the landing gear to not raise or lower on the PMDG T7 and NGX.

Took me ages and ages to troubleshoot, as I never thought it would cause this issue, as no one else reported it. But after contacting Dave at Oncourse, he found the issue. A fix will be posted in the next update, yes there will be a 2.16.

If you alter your "Hot Keys" it will corrupt the PFE.cfg and the fix is posted below. I hope Dave does not mind me posting it:

"

I have found a small bug with the Hotkey Reset option and it has been fixed ready for the next update (no release date yet)

In the meantime, here's a workaround....

The reset actually works except for the last two hotkey entries in the INI file. So if you open the PF_Emulator.INI file and find the [HotKey] section, following the reset the last two hotket entries (Hotkey21 and Hotkey22) will be set as:-

HotKey21=0027
HotKey22=

But they SHOULD be:-

HotKey21=0076
HotKey22=0027

Would love to see a new ATC that had the best of all of them;

From Vox -Voice control and AI traffic but could read the flight plans and have the planes taking off from the airport when they are due.

From PFE - The quality and quantity of voices and accents.

From RC4 - The ease of setup.

And one more thing, the ability to keep reading weather engines so they are up to date with runway changes, can hold flights due to weather and even close airports to cause diversions.

That is currently possible with MTX5.4 Live traffic option via a sub payment

This not quite what I meant. MTX , WOAI and Ultimate Traffic will give you AI traffic that follows schedules, however Radar Contact and MCE cannot control them, so at a busy airport you might clash with the AI traffic.  VoxATC however does control the AI traffic, but it does not read the schedules. It basically takes any AI traffic it finds in the FSX folder and uses that, it then populates the airport with the AI traffic, if the AFCAD has airline codes and you have a proper AI package then it looks sort of realistic, VoxATC will guide the AI traffic to and from the runways and in the airspace, however you could be at a small local airport at a time that is not normally busy and have an airport full of aircraft.

It would be nice if there was an ATC that can read the schedules and populate the airport as the schedule suggest. My local airport is not a major hub and you can sometimes have only a few aircraft all day, however with VoxATC it looks like Heathrow airport with every parking space full. If you move the slide down and have less AI then it looks OK, but land at Heathrow then it looks like a ghost town. If they could read the schedules then it would have an idea of which airports are busy and which are not.

You mean like the default ATC?
