July 6, 201411 yr Hello, can anybody tell how PMDG make that detail cockpit? I wanna make a A350-800-900-900R-1000-F Versions This is what i wanna know: What kind of software they use (example: FS Design Studio 3.5) how they create the model (.MDL Files) how they make a virtual cockpit that fully works If the software is secret (or other) please tell then the best alternitive. Thanks Hugo The software will include FSX, its SDK, a 3-D modelling program (possiblly 3dsMax), Photoshop, a C++ compiler, and possibly FSUIPC. All this software is readily avaialable to anyone. How PMDG make the model and how it makes a vitrual cockpit is proprietory and is a trade-secret - based on PMDGs know-how, expertise and experience. It would be foolish to thinK that that PMDG would simply give that anyone who asked for it. Gerry Howard
July 6, 201411 yr Hugo I attempted a long time ago to make an FS aircraft for FS9 not long after it came out. I had a reasonable amount of success. I was doing a B707. I was happy with the way it was going but it was just taking too much time. I made the mistake of once I had a model that resembled the 707, going public with it. My intentions was to get constructive comments on my work to make things better. I was a one man band and learning as I went and was sure that I would miss details and be able to learn more from the community. In the end all I got was people asking me when I was going to finish it and as I had no Idea I would then get abuse (this has led to a real understanding and respect to the PMDG policy). Anyway as Jason said start off with Gmax that's what I was using. Its quite straight forward to use and there are many tutorials around to help get you going. Saying that I found the best way to learn was just trial and error. I would just try modelling different things different ways until I found something that worked and I could repeat it ( many times I would get a result then not be able to get there again). The main things you need though is lots of time, patience and a good form of stress release. It can get very very frustrating at times. I never got as far as the cockpit but the cockpit windows on the exterior left me many sleepless nights. I don't know how many times I rebuilt that section and I was never 100% happy with it. If you really want to go for it I wish you good luck. Once you can see you are getting somewhere it starts getting rewarding. To stand back and look at what you have created and see it actually start looking like the real thing as I'm sure the guys at PMDG will agree puts a really big smile on your face. Good Luck P.S I'm sure many here would be more that happy to offer pointers and help. After all we are all here because we share a passion for FS and all things planes. Its suppose to be a friendly community and generally is so as hard as it can be, develop a tough skin and ignore all the negative comments. July 6, 201411 yr Really? Don't care about those rude replies personally, it's disgusting to see how some people use avsim and fortunately we don't see this sort of behaviour in real life. Maybe some people have spent way too much time inside the house... I would like to create addons myself, but as commercial developers have stated it does take years to get things right and personally I do not have the patience to fully devote that time as I have other far more serious problems
July 6, 201411 yr Some people need to quit the Avsim sheriff bs. If you don't have something nice or productive to say and the post isn't adressed to you, just go away. You don't have to comment everything you read. Daniel Nilsson
July 6, 201411 yr I created some Harriers and an F-105 for FS 2000 using FS Desgin Studio way back when. It took a long time to do them right but I was proud of them and they got a lot of positive response. It was very rewarding and the Harriers even won an award. They are still available over at that other flightsim site though by todays standards they are silly looking (I have Razbam's Harriers and they are fantastic). It took a lot of investment in time to learn and do even with FS Design Studio. I stopped because life got in the way and learning 3d studio was not my cup of tea but I guess I can pick it up again if I get more time (I like to fly not design). Of course this was all in the "freeware" era. I still do repaints when I get a minute for my VA but have not played with designing. There is so much great work out there and really I saw no need anymore. There are tools available and resources you can use that others have mentioned but it was fun. Start out simple, do freeware and go from there. There once used to be a very vibrant freeware ideal but the quality of add-ons now surpass anything we did back then--I am thinking that most of the freeware designers then are now working for the payware guys. There are a few stalwarts who are excellent out there (Thomas Ruth comes to mind) but the best piece of advice I can give is don't do it to make money. Do it because its fun and you like to do it. If you make beer money later all the better. Jim Atkins Jim Atkins
July 6, 201411 yr I read it again and stand by my comments: He said: how they make a virtual cockpit that fully works. Slow down there 77West! It was clearly an innocent request in a freandly forum! :-) Have you considered going into litigation? Lol Ray Lemus
July 6, 201411 yr Here you go ... I think PMDG speeded the clip up though http://youtu.be/gVZr3WbMQ6w It'd be neat if PMDG or some other dev would do a short video based on that show "How its made" I'd be interested in seeing the design process Tessa Hauke
July 6, 201411 yr Commercial Member It'd be neat if PMDG or some other dev would do a short video based on that show "How its made" I'd be interested in seeing the design process There's lots of great information all over YouTube and FSDeveloper.com that covers the design and development process of addons. The basics are all the same for any aircraft, minus the code. Brandon Filer

LolIf you guys read the whole thread you would see that I actually misunderstood the OP's intent - and I apologised. What more do you want me to do? Wes Meyer
