September 4, 201411 yr Death threats and whack jobs? It'll only get better when FSX comes out on Steam! I agree that I'm seeing better cloud performance in v2.3 - up to a point. Then it's like that one "cloud that broke the camel's back" get's rendered and everything goes pear shaped all of the sudden. I go from 33 locked at 33 in what seems to be quite heavy cloud cover and then something happens and frames drop to to 7-8 without much noticeable difference in the coverage density. I've tried the cloud.fx fix, didn't help. I just tried TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120, I found it worse if anything. I've turned cloud density down to minimum while frames are tanked and it maybe jumps up to 13-14 FPS at best. I see a rhythmic stutter when I'm in "tanked mode", like a brief pause exactly once per second. Outside of "tanked mode" the sim is like butter and the rhythmic pauses are not there. I thought maybe it was ASN but I can get the same effect if I load the gray & rainy weather theme. I do think LM is on the right track though, i don't wanna go back either. I just hope they can figure out what's causing this and get it sorted out. In the meantime I thank the hifi gods for historical weather so I can pick and choose what kind of weather to fly in. Perfect sum up +1 David Murden. September 4, 201411 yr In case anyone hasnt seen a side by side comparison of the differences, visually, of the old v2.2 cloud.fx vs the 2.3 vs the 2.3 modified (commented out visulize line).. here is a gif loop showing the changes.. Depending on the scenery/addon area/weather config, the drop for me was drastic even on the 780ti with 2.2 vs 2.3.. looking forward to the hotfix from LM Is it possible the big drop in FPS is more due to the lake of cloud shadows than the .fxs? What do you get if you test with cloud shadows off in all three situations? gb. YSSY. September 4, 201411 yr Ive only had it happen once, went into clouds, slide show.....poped out of them fps back to normal. Am sure LM will find the problem. Normaly if fps go like that I would be shouting at the screen "what a piece of **** this programme is" but strangely I lol and thought "yer but them clouds look so damm good" David Murden. September 4, 201411 yr I just tried TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120, I found it worse if anything. I run photoscenery exclusively. Tested multiple incarnations of TBM with zero noticable/identifiable results in P3D. Mark
September 4, 201411 yr 2.3 look fantastic the 2.2 version looks like fsx. The main thing that looks so stunning about 2.3 are the clouds. Agree , The Camera effect known as AF on reflexcameras makes the clouds in background blurry but looks great and the SPEED is also a gamechanger. Flying in clouds that comes towards you at high speed really make you feel the high speed in the aircraft. Michael Michael Moe
September 4, 201411 yr I haven´t found a big changer in performance in P3dV2.3. Did some test in EGLL UK2000 gate 303 with a 737 cold and dark and having around 24-26 fps regardless of weather settings via ASN . Which 737? Chad Black Phoenix/ Flagstaff, AZ USA
September 4, 201411 yr For those who haven't seen it yet, new cloud "diagnosis" and fix posted by Beau in the LM forums here (scroll down). Also referenced at the top of this new Avsim thread. Haven't tried it yet but will. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery

September 4, 201411 yr +1. I get the same performance now in 2.3 and that's without having to turn off the Volumize code.
September 4, 201411 yr With this latest edit, I have also restored the Volumize code AND turned my cloud shadows back on. My FPS now are actually better than they were with v.2.2 ... even with heavy weather (I just flew through a thunderstorm with ASN running). P3D is now running great again! ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
September 4, 201411 yr Yep.. i concluded the same.. awesome job by LM to reveal this tweak.. here is a newer gif animation showing all 3 cloud.fx (one with both mods, one original v2.3 and one with just the math tweak).. ill probably leave volumize on (lose minimal frames). September 4, 201411 yr Commercial Member Hmmm, I miss the voluminous clouds a bit but it certainly perked the frame rates up. Thanks for the comparison .gif theskyisthelimit, I was having a hard time seeing what the volumize tweak was actually changing.
September 4, 201411 yr Have to say I think untouched looks best, I might try not halving but 70% David Murden.
