Just a quick and simple post...

Recommended Posts

I have been flying around, through, and about Toronto, Canada with all the eye-candy maxed, at about a 100 mile radius.

P3D v2.3

ASN (latest BETA release)

REX 4 Direct SP3

Sid/Star router for A.I. control

ORBX GLobal 1.20

Vector 1.15

MyTraffic 5.4c

Accu-Feel

GSX Ground Services

24-33 FPS

This is the simple statement:

"Lockhead Martin's flight simulator P3D v2.3 , with the above supporting software,...is everything I have ever wanted in a flight simulator, and its environment. It simulates the real world as there is no other, and with great FPS performance on a five-year old system. Two hours plus, and no VAS issues...no O.O.M.

I can only see this as getting better ....AND BETTER!"

I agree Mitch. The problem is, as with FSX, the majority of the people who are ENJOYING the sim without major problems are busy flying and not posting.

I agree, Vic.

Here's another happy simmer from the majority. I'm having a ball. :yahoo:

I had absolutely no problems with FSX (really), and now I'm revelling in this v2.3. I wanted to try a larger aircraft, and saw the reports here regarding the QW 146.

Yesterday I bought it. What a blast.

FSX gave me 20 - 25 fps over my own scenery at EGOW (lots of trees & ai - that dragged FSX down.

I'm getting 40 to 45 fps over the same scenery with P3D. My settings are not quite at max, but are much higher than with FSX.

OK, clouds are a slight problem (they were with FSX also) but what the heck - this 146 makes this 'Sim Heaven...'. What a beautiful aircraft.

Don't like using HDR, though. Too dark. VCs could be a little brighter also. I'm also currently using simple clouds.

Long time no speak. (FSForum ?)

I think I've got a pic somewhere, of you and others with Patty Wagstaff ?

Hey Bill!

Yes, it's been a while. I'm still helping Patty by maintaining her website for her. She's a classy lady and a great pilot.

Micro Stutters are still an immersion killer for me. Doesn't matter if its 20 FPS or 40 FPS or anywhere in between, if it stutters then it ruins it for me.

P3D is so far and away better than FSX its not even a comparison, but until it can run like FSX does with 30FPS locked and 1/2 refresh rate vsync, then it wont be my main sim.

Well, I tried the UT2 demo today, as I have always supported the MyTraffic franchise for A.I.   Very nice...but I don't like how if you go to any other window/menu...and come back, all the A.I. re- spawn.  The models look very nice...except for in DX10, the anti-collision lights on the fuselages, sit above the fuselages on some models, and on a few...there is a white light about 20 feet off the mid-roof of some. Even Steve's Fixer couldn't remove that. Finally, no military aircraft, no helicopters, etc...and for that reason, I shall stick with, and continue to be satisfied with MyTraffic 5.4c. It also has DX10/Full FSX SP2 compatibility, and 5.4c's models frankly look just as good, and with a 5 FPS on average less hit on FPS.

They are both great programs, and each gets the job done for world-coverage A.I.

Not enough of a game-changer though to move to either one....pretty much on par with the other.

So which plane are you enjoying in P3D 2.3? I am going from FSX to XPX to both XPX and FSX, but I find maintaining both is a major pain given my very limited time.  May be I just settle on P3D 2.3 and use this to clean up all the stuffs I have not used in FSX, since they don't work in P3D anyway.  Start from a clean slate.  Or may be I will just quit FSim altogether for now!  I have restart FSX recently after 4 weeks + of inactivity and guess what I was greeted with frozen screen for 10 minutes before the sim even started! Sighs

Oh no he ain't! Mine is now nearly 3 years old, far less potent than Mitch's and I too see great visuals and performance with P3D 2.3 + Global, Vector, Pilot's and REX Tx Direct. Also Cloud Shadow Cast Distance is currently set at 80,000m and I use the HDR option. I do employ a handful of documented proven tweaks and, while settings are above defaults they are certainly not maxed out and several options remain unchecked; really don't need to be to achieve a great experience. Frame rates are now locked at 25. Windows7 Pro 64bit SP1.

M18x with i7 2960XM, 2xGTX 580M, 20GB DDR-1600, one hybrid 500GB drive and one 750GB 7600rpm drive, Screen resolution: 1920x1080 and crystal clear. Even well tuned 'laptops' can still cut the mustard despite all the naysayers.

Also, I'm not sure that 'luck' is the correct word to be using in this context.

Visuals, I agree, performance, well if you like micro-stutters and don't mid them, then I guess each to their on. There's lots of people (including me) with high-end equipment (not 5 years old) having "performance" issues because stutters and I'm sure they as I do too, know how to tune our system, micro-sttuters impacts performance in my eyes.

So, if in your case as well as Mitch's are sttuttteerr free, then yes "lucky" is the correct word, of not the you have a different view of what performance means. My main sim is XPX and I know what butter smooth performance is. I wanted to give P3d a shot, but it is still far behind XPX in the performance arena.
