August 31, 201411 yr I just installed v2.3 and the plugin works! So apparently it is not compatible with v2.0. The sense of scale on the plane and cockpit is pretty impressive. However the scale of the outside world seems a bit too small. Nonetheless I got a strong feeling for being up and high in the air. The lighting and contrast are nearly perfect, far better than DCS. Landing is a blast with 3D vision. Still the major deal-breaker is the resolution. It's just too far from being sufficient. However, since there are not many details to be seen through the screen anyway it does give one benefit that one can turn-down the graphics settings a lot to gain higher fps which is much more important for a better VR experience. Couldn't wait for a higher resolution Oculus Rift. Sincerely hope CV1 will be a big leap forward in the screen resolution department. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
September 1, 201411 yr Probably none unless in rural areas with balanced settings... and at FL500, no weather, no AI
September 1, 201411 yr this is nice for visual flying with Ga aircraft with no ATC , but on IFR with atc you have to wright down (taxi vector , frequencies etc . i7 4777k 4.6mhz, 32gddr3, GTX 760 4g sci ,Saitek x52,yoke and quadrant, 60 Led . SSD
September 2, 201411 yr Author this is nice for visual flying with Ga aircraft with no ATC , but on IFR with atc you have to wright down (taxi vector , frequencies etc . Yeah, as I had stated earlier, it seems this would be more for the people who enjoy bush flying etc. where depth perception is most important. I would assume when the leap motion finger style tracking shows more promise, you would actual be able to write all that on a virtual kneeboard
September 2, 201411 yr I cannot believe all the negative nay-sayers! These guys have not ever tried/seen on of these things & already they are knocking it. From what I hear, this is one of the most exciting things that is happining to our hobby!! Flipping amazing technology!! Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
September 2, 201411 yr Its a goofy thing to wear and hampers keyboard/mouse access. People don't want to wear simple polarized 3D glasses cause they find them annoying. I see people playing the heck out of this for several weeks then decide it's too cumbersome and hindering.
September 2, 201411 yr Once you can see your hands in virtually reality and be able to click the virtual cockpit with your fingers the keyboard/mouse access issue will be totally gone. Multiple companies are working on this "virtual hand" solution and it should be coming soon, in a matter of year or so. Oculus Rift shouldn't be compared to 3D glasses at all. They're completely two different things. With 3D glasses you're still looking into a window, albeit things in the window appear to be 3D. With Oculus Rift you're *IN* that virtual world. The feeling simply can not be conveyed by words, pictures or videos - you have to experience it to know how wonderful it is. I found a fabulous DK2 demo that is Titians of Space. It's perfectly smooth @75fps with all the bells and whistles of new DK2 features on (low persistence and time warp which completely eliminate motion blur etc). The feeling of floating in the deep space and looking up to a huge sun right next to you is absolutely stunning and sensational. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
September 2, 201411 yr Commercial Member How does this work if you have to wear glasses? I already have difficulties focusing on things not at least an arm's length from my face, and that is when I'm actually wearing my glasses (yes I know, I need new ones). Most of those polarized goggles I can't use because they wont fit comfortably in addition to the bicycle on my nose. Contact lenses are not an option. LORBY-SI
September 3, 201411 yr if you're farsighted you'll be fine, as DK2 lenses focus to infinity. If you're severely nearsighted like me (-5 diopter) then even those DK2 lenses for nearsighted vision are not sufficient. But I just found I can tape my old glasses (after removing its legs) directly on top of DK2 lenses and solved problem easy and well. It's very likely that the consumer version will have much better and more adjustable lenses. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
September 5, 201411 yr Yes, you are farsighted so the optics in the rift will work fine for you. If you are near sighted (which you personally are not) then there is another set of optics that comes with the rift which you can try. If that doesn't work then you can adjust the rift so some eyeglasses will fit inside. If all else fails, get contacts I can see a number of aftermarket accessories for the rift and one of them would be replacement optics for standard diopters. If we are lucky, even lenses made from ED glass for those that want more than the basic ones. Of course then they would need drivers to come with them for the enhanced chromatic aberration For those that see this as something that will pass, I think you are wrong. I have never seen anyone with a rift think that although I have seen people say it's amazing, they wish they could use it but they cannot get used to it, i.e. motion sickness. The only flying I have done in it is with DCS. It is amazing, it is like being there. Landing is like landing a real aircraft, the size of the runway, the approach. Nothing gives you the same sensation of scale. I don't mean a sensation of scale like we are using a bigger screen. This is all 1:1. It is not like trackir. A better way to think about it is that it is a portal to the real world. Basically, put on a pair of goggles and each eye looks out of each eyecup on your goggles. Move your head around, up, down, 180 degrees behind you and you see what is presented to you, in the real world. That is what the rift is like. The scale is 1:1, it is in 3d, like you are there. I am mostly using it for racing simulation. It cannot be beat. It is so much better than either my triple 27" or triple 42" screens. I believe if you don't like the concept, you don't fully understand the concept. The concept has been around for a while but never really properly realised. This is one of those things, it's made the difference from watching yourself control an aircraft to feel like you are controlling one. For all my screens and gadgets I have never felt like I have been in a cockpit. First time in a rift you feel like you are there. If you do your first landing in a rift and don't feel like this changes things then… I don't know what to say If you haven't tried it I would hold off too many thoughts of what you think it is like because it is obviously (to those that have one) not. Still, as pointed out, it needs improvement, mostly resolution. It is good enough for me but it would not be a good combat sim device in it's current state. Finding small objects in the distance is not it's thing. I hope CV1 has a good improvement in resolution. I will add, it has already given me the best night flying of anything. The blacks are silky and pitch black. It adds something significant to night flying to have contrast on the levels that it delivers.
September 5, 201411 yr Yes, the controls are a huge issue but there are rumors that Oculus is working out a way to implement this in the consumer version as well. Just read these days that there's a company which is experimenting with virtual buttons that you can grab and switch etc. Spirit
September 5, 201411 yr Anybody tried it with an tube liner? How foes it feel to be in that cockpit Thanks,Pankaj Dekate
September 5, 201411 yr Ok, I tried DK2 with default FSX 737 (just copied 737 files from FSX to P3D and the plane works fine). The sense of being in the 737 cockpit is almost phenomenal. However, it's nearly impossible to operate the instruments, as the mouse click is really hard in DK2. Since tubes fly much faster and higher and have much slower responses to sticks than small planes, manual landing is a big challenge due to low screen resolution -- I can hardly see the status of PAPI or even the shape of runway at 10nm. By the time the PAPI and runway are clearly visible, it's already a bit too late. I still landed each time I tried but these landings are definitely ugly if not too scary... I believe at present it makes much more sense flying tubes with multiple monitors or a home cockpit etc, as playing with the instruments is the major part of flight while visuals are not so important anyway. Until I can have my hands in the virtual cockpit that is of high resolution and fully clickable, I'll mostly fly small GA planes with DK2 in P3D. But I must emphasize that such flights are enormously impressive and enjoyable in DK2. The current DK2 plug-in for P3D is far from being perfect, and LM's official plug-in could further improve the experiences substantially. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
September 6, 201411 yr Awesome..the feeling of actually sitting in there must be awesome.,no? Thanks,Pankaj Dekate
September 6, 201411 yr yes,it is awesome to feel that you're sitting in the cockpit, looking around and seeing the sky through those star windows (?)... Only problem is to see well and click the instruments. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
