September 28, 201411 yr Simmers, Never thought to share my spotting photos here, but as I haven't been able to sim for the past four months as a result of two separate computer crashes and some very bad timing, and as I wait to get my new computer (desktop this time, with 16GB RAM, GTX770, i7-4790K, etc...), I've been doing a lot of it at my home airport of CYVR. Coincidentally, tonight I find myself in St. John's, NL, flying back tomorrow with stops in CYUL and CYHZ (any CYUL, CYHZ or CYYT spotters send me a PM if you read this !), I thought I'd share some of my favourites. I'm on Instagram @dmairplane, as well as a rarely-used FlickR account (yvrspotter), and a kind-of-updated website (yvrspotting.weebly.com). I think all of the photos have been taken with the D3200 (w/ 18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VRII), but if not they were taken with the J1 I was using before that. So, without further ado, here are a couple of my all-time favourites from the past few months (I've only really been spotting since May) - sorry for the number of photos. Enjoy! September 28, 201411 yr Wow, Derek! Beautiful shots! Even better that you're from the same neck of the woods. Joel Murray @ CYVR (actually, somewhere about halfway between CYNJ and CZBB)
September 28, 201411 yr Nice pictures, you have a better view of Mt. Baker then I do, the trees block my view now, hi from Sumas
September 28, 201411 yr Superb shots! I thoroughly enjoyed them. Martin Sims: MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024 and X-plane 11 Home Airport: CYCW - Chilliwack, BC Canada i5 13600KF 32GB DDR4 3600 RAM, RTX3080TI Meta Quest 3
September 28, 201411 yr Commercial Member Derek, these are amazing shots! I also live in Vancouver so it's great to see these different aircraft taking off and landing at YVR. I bookmarked this page in case you have more B) TFDi Design
September 28, 201411 yr So nice. I always fly in Vancouver , I am a bush pilot. The weather has not been good for flight since a couple of days. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
September 28, 201411 yr Sweet shots. Really nice detail. Yea that was a crazy pacific storm the other day. It just came town in torrents for a few hours straight. CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
September 29, 201411 yr Author By the way, can you see the Harbour Air or United photo? I'll repost them if they didn't go through. And thank you everyone for your comments! Derek MacPherson At the risk of sounding cliche, I love planes.GTX 770 / i7-4790K / 16GB DDR3
September 30, 201411 yr Really nice shots. Great job. I miss living near YVR. Spent more than a few hours watching the planes fly over my house. I do not miss the rainy season though. Your Harbour Air and United photos are not showing. Jazz. ps, How was the milk run from the Rock?
September 30, 201411 yr Author Thanks! I'll post them as soon as possible. The milk run was pretty great - save for the CRJ-900's misaligned windows, it was great. I'd never been on an RJ before, so it was quite fun. No complaints on the 333 back from CYUL. Super lucky, though, I walked into the international side and got some epic up-close shots of the KLM MD-11, along with a SWR 330, the AF 744, and, from a distance, a QR 77W. I'll share them on IG and potentially here as well. Derek MacPherson At the risk of sounding cliche, I love planes.GTX 770 / i7-4790K / 16GB DDR3
October 2, 201411 yr I haven't been on the crj 900's before either. My last trip back east, (2003) I did get to fly on one of the old BAE146-200's, from CYHZ to CYYT. Man, those were noisy birds, but a nice ride none the less. I look forward to seeing your pics of the KLM MD-11. Jazz
October 5, 201411 yr Author Nice - I would've died to fly on the 146. Only place to do that now is Europe. Have some cockpit/flight and terminal photos on the way. I'll probably post them in another thread though seeing as they aren't from CYVR.
