  1. Oh wow, that sunlight reflection! Beautiful screenshot indeed!
  2. I agree with Bert. If you have a 980 (or even a 780), I would consider getting the faster CPU - especially if you're sticking with FSX.
  3. Great shots! Especially that solid undercast layer :-)
  4. Correct. If you install 8GB ram on a 32 bit machine, it will only have 4GB usable. Here are some better explanations of why 32 bit systems cannot use more than 4GB of ram: http://superuser.com/questions/394630/can-i-have-8-gb-ram-on-32-bit-win-7 http://superuser.com/questions/372881/is-there-a-technical-reason-why-32-bit-windows-is-limited-to-4gb-of-ram
  5. It won't. FSX, as a 32 bit app, can only use up to 4GB. But - think of this - what if you only have 4GB of usable ram overall? You still need to allocate some of it for your operating system. So in the end, you only have 1GB or 2GB ram for FSX. By having a 64 bit system, you can have (for example) 8GB of ram. Now, you can have 4GB fully for FSX, and the rest of the free ram for your system, making both your computer and FSX run smoother.
  6. I've seen this forced update happen way too much - almost everyone I know who uses PC have told me to look out for this. Hmm... maybe I should try that GWX tool! If I upgrade, I'm actually not that concerned about them collecting data on how many times I open an app; I just want to know if the keystroke logger from the beta is still in there or not, lol
  7. Hold on, I think I may have misunderstood your post. You want to display the gauge info from the F-15 to the external LCDs, correct?
  8. Hmm... if you check in your Gauges folder in your sim's main directory, is there any .dll or .gau file that is associated with the Thrustmaster Cougar MFD? If not, then I'm not sure if it's possible to add the MFD as a popup gauge within the simulator. (if anyone has any experience with the MFD and has gotten it into the sim, please feel free to jump in and help)
  9. If I understand your question correctly, you want to add an additional gauge to your aircraft? I'm not sure about the Thrustmaster Cougar, but here is how to add a new gauge window to ANY plane. First, under [Window Titles], add a new window: eg. Window 03 = New Gauge Make sure the "03" are the next set of numbers after the sequence. So if Window 29 was before, you put Window 30. Then, scroll all the way down till you find code labeled as [Window 01]... [Window 02]... You add: [Window 03] size_mm=440,440 window_size=0.4 position=9 Background_color=16,16,16 VISIBLE=1 ident=MISC_POPUP_1 zorder=4 gauge00 = GaugeName!DeclaredGaugeName, 0, 0, 440, 440, 0 Ok lemme explain all that: the first few lines from size_mm to zorder should be self explanatory. You shouldn't have to worry about that if you just want a window up and running. The important part is the "gauge00" and the code after it. The syntax is: GaugeName ! DeclaredGaugeName Replace GaugeName with the name of the .DLL gauge you copied + pasted into your FSX gauge folder. Replace DeclaredGaugeName with the name of the gauge you want. So I'd assume it would be called MFD or something similar. Again, I don't own the joystick so I'm not sure how a joystick gauge works, or if it's possible to put a joystick gauge into FSX, but that is how you install every addon aircraft gauge. Hope that helps!
  10. Ok I'm gonna steer this thread back to the right direction - From what I've been reading in these forums - YES - PMDG has said in previous announcements that there will be 3 products from FSX/P3D that they plan to port over to X-Plane: 1. PMDG 737NGX 2. PMDG 777-200LR/F, PMDG 777-300ER 3. PMDG 747-400 v3 To answer your question - yes, the PMDG 777 will eventually make its way to X-Plane. In no particular order. None of the legacy products will be ported over. So no MD-11 for example. PMDG, if the info is incorrect in some form or there has been some changes, please let me know and I'll correct my post. Thank you!
  11. Awesome! Looks like I found my next purchase! Hi Tim, I currently have an addon gauge in-development that provides a universal ND for Terrain Display mode for aircrafts like the PMDG MD-11. Would it be possible to integrate this so that the ND can provide WXR in addition to TERR with the API? Or is it only for full aircraft developers (not gauge devs)? - HC
  12. If you meant the xFMC as mentioned in the video(s) and forums about the actual working FMC, it's this one: http://ufmc.eadt.eu/x737FMC The product you have isn't the right FMC from Javier C.
  13. I just discovered this while browsing PCFlight and thought I'd share it with you all: https://pcflight.net/aerosoft-navdatapro-charts/ http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/110856-navdatapro-charts-preview/ It'll be the same as what Navigraph offers, though. As Mathijs mentioned, "We have exactly the same data source as Navigraph and have the same condition of use." I couldn't find info on a desktop version though; perhaps it might be another project for the future? Currently only iOS as far as I know.
  14. This is present in the 737NGX and 777 lineups. When I bought the -300ER expansion for P3D, I accidentally clicked my FSX installer instead, and it detected that my sim is not FSX and shut itself down. I installed using the correct P3D installer and the 300ER loaded without any problems. I'd assume that it's not present in the MD-11 installer because at that time, P3D did not exist. It was FSX and ESP.
  15. This is what I do and it works for the flights and different airlines I've flown: Go to the gate early and ask the pilots when they arrive for preflight. I would sit near the entrance to the gate and when pilots arrive, I'd ask if I could get a cockpit visit. The Chief Purser would usually be there as well, so when the pilots agreed, they also passed the message to the Purser so when I arrived at the aircraft for boarding, the Purser automatically got another attendant to take me to the cockpit. If it's a turnaround, the best time is to wait until everyone exits the aircraft and then ask. But bottom line - it's not weird at all! Pilots love explaining stuff to #avgeeks. Just remember - always get permission to touch anything. PS - for the Captain's seat - this works best if you ask after the flight. The pilots are getting out of there anyways so they usually agree. (also from my experience) - BUT varies from airlines to airlines and dependant on the pilots. The ones I've met are kind enough to allow me. But again, varies.
  16. Following what Gunnar has said, (which I completely agree), take one of the world's biggest tech companies for example: Apple Inc. They never show a product, no matter if it's software or hardware (or both), to the public until they have gotten to a point where it is safe to announce a release date. The new iPhone could be out in September, or it could be delayed and released in December. There is no fixed date to meet. PMDG follows the same principle and I'm a happy customer.
  17. Looking real nice! Thanks for the video!
  18. On long haul flights over the Pacific during the night, I've seen strobe lights get turned off. In fact, both the Nav and Strobes got turned off. Unless we were flying in thick, heavy cloud at 40,000ft, I couldn't see any blinking or red/green lights out the window (they were perfectly visible before and after) (Yes real-world flying)
  19. Great video! And thanks for all the explanations! This cleared a lot of confusions I had regarding the FBW system on the 777.
  20. SimAvionics comes with a fully functional overhead panel. For a user interface, it's a flat 2D panel; it's meant to be interfaced with a physical overhead panel for cockpit builders.
  21. If you told me the 2nd shot is real, I'd fully believe you. But really - holy! Those are some spectacular shots!
  22. Before you compare PMDG with SimAvionics - Keep in mind that SimAvionics provides only the cockpit display software (PFD, ND, EICAS, EFIS... etc) but not the actual flight model. You'd be loading a freeware 777 and using SimAvionics on top of that. For example - a few cockpit builders I've seen load the default 737 from FSX and then use SimAvionics' 737 software on top. The PMDG 777 is your "all-in-one" to a 777 - accurate fine-tuned flight model, avionics software... etc. There are some software that you can use to broadcast the displays of the PMDG 777 to a networked computer. I just forgot the name of the site / software...

  24. I've written a review for the 767. You can find it here: http://www.simreview.ca/FFSS767/ffss767.html My reviews are written from a consumer point of view so it tends to be more of a "writeup" of my feelings after flying the aircraft, rather than the companies' reviews where you get a lot of screenshots and every feature detailed. That said, it also reflects how I personally feel after getting a hands-on of the cockpit. Hope it helps!
