September 30, 201411 yr Windows 7 will be supported for quite some time Windows 7 Support is being withdrawn by Microsoft sometime soon after the New Year as was reported in the IT press. Rick Almeida
September 30, 201411 yr Why on Earth would anyone want to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 9? One reason is if they sneak in a new release of DirectX that isn't available on Win 7.
September 30, 201411 yr My question would be, will it fix the current disconnect problems of joy sticks on ver 8 and 8.1? Ron Ron Service .

September 30, 201411 yr Just to be clear.....when we talk about "Windows Support", are we talking about online/phone help, or updates? Patches/Updates for Windows 7 will continue until January, 2020.
September 30, 201411 yr Windows 7 Support is being withdrawn by Microsoft sometime soon after the New Year as was reported in the IT press. As far as I understand the MS support page, Mainstream Support will end on January 13, 2015. However, the Extended Support (i.e. security updates, paid support and online help) will continue until January 14, 2020. So there will be no "active" devlopment on Win7 anymore, but they will still react to security threats, and that's the important thing. Florian
September 30, 201411 yr Mainstream Support will end on January 13, 2015. Well Done. That was the bit that I saw reported in Computer Active(UK) magazine. Rick Almeida
September 30, 201411 yr Commercial Member The screenshot looks like the new menu will take you to the tiles.- This would make it worse, even close to unusable. Unusable? I can't imagine how so. You click a button (big enough that one at least can't accidentally mis-click) and a program opens. Why on Earth would anyone want to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 9? The only possible reason for having Windows 9 (or Windows 8 for that matter) is when you don't have an OS at all, or you have one that is no longer supported. Since Windows 7 will be supported for quite some time yet, paying $30 to upgrade the number at the end would be a bit daft. I personally like to be on the latest OS. I'll probably upgrade when 9 comes out. Just like Linux and Mac, any new version of Windows has some level of improvement. In the case of 8, I noticed a decent speed/performance improvement. The new start menu is neither hard nor easy to use. It just takes a few days to get used to. Why? Because we've used the other start menu for YEARS. Change, while different at first (obviously) and not always liked by everyone, is something that a person can get used to given a bit of time. Brandon Filer
September 30, 201411 yr I find it amusing that everyone is bashing Microsoft, yet I would bet that more than 90% of their software comes from them, or a sister company. The tech world is pretty small guys. Kinda like oil. Also, the comment "blatantly ripped off the Windows 8.1 design" is pretty funny. It is after all, their tech, their design. They are allowed to "use" features if they want. Hell, Windows and every version of it is a "blatant rip off of the Windows design". A company does not have to reinvent the wheel to change, update, modify their products. Almost everything in succession that we use is a blatant ripoff of what came before it. William Sequeira
September 30, 201411 yr Cortana? You sure you are not getting mixed up with Cortina, made by Ford when they used Italian designers? Maybe Nissan made a subtle change to that name? And does your cousin's Cortana drive better than Windows? Rick Almeida
September 30, 201411 yr Never mind Windows 9. Just been announced on the BBC that Microsoft have officially stated that their next OS will called Windows 10 See this:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-29431412 Rick Almeida
