If it wasn't for the joystick problems, I'd still be on 8.1.

For now,I'll stick to 7

I might dual boot it along side 8.1 and test to see if FSX works okay/joystick is fixed.

I had installed on my laptop for a bit over a year and decided to go back to Win7. It was faster and even though I was using "classic shell" to add the Start button I uninstalled it.

The article mentions something interesting about win 8 adoption.

Quote from the article "Across desktop PCs as a whole, only 13.4% currently run Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, according to research firm NetMarketshare.

By contrast, it says 51.2% are powered by Windows 7 and 23.9% by Windows XP, a version that is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Mr Johnson said the reintroduction of the Start Menu should help Windows 10 fare better."

I wish they had two versions, one for desktop and another one for tablets and mobile phones like Apple.

Never mind Windows 9.

Just been announced on the BBC that Microsoft have officially stated that their next OS will called Windows 10

That explains the free upgrade to Windows 9...

I wish they would collect every mobile phone and tablet on the planet, stack them all in a nice big pile, and torch the lot.

Yes, because no one ever wants or needs a mobile phone. The only thing anyone should ever be allowed to use is a desktop because you don't like mobile devices, right?

I think of it this way: Its not my job to run up and buy everything they produce; Its up to them to convince me that there's an advantage to me in using their product. They failed to do that for a very large number of people, and its not the peoples fault; they have no obligation to buy. Its Microsoft that failed to offer a product that would sell.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

So where's that free update mentioned? I won't bother to update if it's not free from 8.1.

To much hassle to remove my win7 menu style app only to get something weird with tiles aside which probably

slows your workflow.

The user herd reminds me of children...oh something new. Papa I want that right now.

They bring back the old start menu, make it more customizable than before (looking at the leaked videos and information), AND make it free for Windows 8 users, yet people still complain. Unbelievable.

Brandon, just look at the screenshots it is truly hideous.

No way would I want to look at that all day.

I did look at the screenshots. As a UI designer, I still fail to see what's so bad/ugly. There's colored buttons with icons and a name. The color matches the icon of the associated program/App. You click the button and a program/App opens. You can customize what programs/Apps are there and where you want them. Don't want an App? Remove it? Want to pin FSX? Great, pin it. You also don't ever have to use an App. I never do.

I guess I am fine with the little thing called change.

Windows 8 series has been a disaster for MS, they completely forgot about the business community who still rely on desktop machines in their (MS) pursuit of greed into the tablet market.

It was also so ill thought out that 8.1 had to be rushed out to try and save the day. (Complete fail).  But it was the income that had disappeared that has forced them to try and get back the sales with the new W10.

As with all things nothing last's forever and maybe MS is now going to go into decline and something new in O/S software is on the horizon from a different company.

Spot-on, James. Some very cogent points. Additionally, MS could not bear to see Samsung, and Apple, and the likes, capturing a huge slice of the smartphone and tablet market with their own OSs. So, instead of sticking with a trusted formula it went for something that back-fired on them.
