Windows 10? How many versions do Microsoft want? They haven't even released "9" yet!

If you read that BBC link, you will note that they are by-passing it. PR recovery maybe?

Maybe windows "X" will look good on the marketing.

Has anyone tried out the Technical Preview yet? I'm thinking of partitioning my harddrive and dual booting into it. How is it so far?

I've downloaded it. Still thinking about it.

I've set up a virtual machine using Hyper-V until I make a decision on whether or not it's worth setting up a dual boot yet. So far, I'm leaning towards yes, partially because it feels slow and laggy running in a VM. Otherwise, it's quite nice.

I've organized my shortcuts like I'd have them on a typical install on the right. On the left are commonly used programs, which in this case, I've randomly opened to fill up the list :P (it's supposed to show desktop programs as well, but upon clearing the list, I seem to have hit a bug: it won't do that any more). It even synced my desktop background from Windows 8 since it's tied to your Microsoft account.

They should rename it Windows Lipstick ...

Pastely-ish art deco, via Miami Vice. And lifeless generic icons flat as a pancake....... :-/

I'm still trying to like the flat icons on my Ipad...... :-(

Icon and color replacement packs will become very popular with this. Unless MS blocks them.

More power to anyone who likes it, though!

Gonna do this too instead of Dual Booting(my main HDD doesnt have enough space to do a dual boot and my secondary one is GPT.)

I'm downloading right now win10 and will try it today in the free vmware player:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso

https://my.vmware.com/de/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/6_0

If accelerated 3D works, like they claim, this will save me hd space as I don't need to fully install it anymore but fire it up

from Ubuntu. Same for OSX later, if all goes well.

Those tiles in win8.1 are unusable for me because they slow my workflow.

Pressing a button is slower than pressing a button? :P

I've disabled immediately those tiles in 8.1 and so far in 10 it seems to need at least two clicks. One for closing as it takes all screen as far as I can tell for now.

Anyone knows how to get accelerated 3D in vmware player? Install Nvidia driver? As for now it seems the same as virtualbox, not usable for flightsims?

It's just like the "Friday the 13th" series of horror movies.  As long as people are willing to pay to watch them, the more they will make.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Ah, so they are following Nvidia's lead, and "missing a step".
