[08FEB15] P3D Pricing Policy - Some facts on this issue...

Featured Replies

yes you need to read T & C of posting here . P3D is not some super "professional " version its just fsx with new code added to it and code changed over time. Its great for us all the same. If ACE had carried on developing fsx you would not of call it a "professional add-on."

Go into your profile and in there you will see signature, add your name in there, hope that helps.

By "us" you really mean the professional users amongst us right ;)

Cheers,

  • Great! I love the comparison with battlefield (apples and oranges )  I'm just glad Orbx and others don't follow this same nonsense!

  • It's just a different platform -- P3D does some things that FSX can't. Feature-wise, the T7 exactly the same as the FSX version, AFAIK.        While it's nice that Orbx provides one license for a

  • Don't you see that you are comparing apples and oranges yourself? Orbx is scenery (mostly) and PMDG provides high fidelity aircraft. Vastly different business.

Oops, me bad. I'm sure I did not say it was a super "professional" version.  I was under the impression that, as it is sold 'not for entertainment', its not a game! I said it had been updated/upgraded 11x times,The other 2x similar programs have not, hence the professional prices charged by certain companies for professional add-ons.

Hence tha analagy re the beans!

To start I have no issue with paying for a full license again, even at the slightly inflated cost.

My concern was a comment made that those people waiting for version 3.0 (hence the possible 64-bit) would incur SIGNIFICANTLY higher entry costs.  As i have been a long time customer and was waiting for a significant difference between FSX and P3D to move over this directly impacts me.  I know i could buy a license now at the current cost and simply wait, but that doesn't seem entirely logical to me.

It also raises questions around new products for the platform, if i upgrade now to P3D and get the 777 for $140 great, i'll get to use that aircraft in V3.0 (possible) 64-bit.  But what about new releases, if PMDG decide to release a IL96 (please please please please) is this going to have the $140 price tag, or is that going to $1,400?

I know Kyle will be on here shortly saying that P3D isn't for the majority of us, i am inclined to agree with him, but the simply fact is that we have nowhere else to go.  The 777 already pushes the VAS envelope, things aren't going to get better in that regard.  X-Plane is (in my humble opinion) a dogs dinner, it's missing features that were in FS8, we simply don't know what Dovetail will do, given train simulator i am not optimistic.  So unless PMDG start developing for DCS i can only see a sudden abrupt end to the high end hobbyist market.

There are multiple posts with multiple issues, so instead of addressing each one individually, I'm just going to address them all at once and make a note for future posting in this thread:

  1. If your posts are unsigned, they will be removed.
  2. If it's about pricing policy and it either debates, or sparks debate, it's getting removed.
  3. If it's related to the EULA discussion of what a user should buy, it's getting removed.

Please don't make life harder for the mods here. Clean it up, or take a break.

That is right Dave. It has been explained earlier by Kyle that 777 for P3D is for PERSONAL use, hence any use by a SINGLE PERSON under P3D EULA.

PMDG 777 for Professional simulators and for providing training by training academies has NOT been released yet.

People are making way too much out of that one sentence on the product page. The important part to take out of that statement is that it is a license for one, single user. That's it. There's no sense parsing it further.

Kyle Rodgers

PMDG has introduced a new product and decided on its price. Potential buyers can decide if they want to pay that price or not. That's how all free markets work.

the First Amendment to the US Constitution begins "Congress shall make no law.... abridging the freedom of speech, ;..." Note that the first word is Congress. That doesn't stop any others creating their own rules or regulations about abridging freedom of speech as much as they choose. I abridge freedom of speech in my own home - newspapers decide what to print; AVSIM what it allows posted, etc etc.

The manuals and tutorials alone are worth $90 to me.  It's almost as if PMDG started off making manuals or something.

You're welcome to have the same discussion with the AVSIM global mods that I had with them. Your post addressed points that I've brought up and have been told not to bring up. Next time, I'll leave it in and you can see the response on your own...

Fair enough, but I already have those.
