June 29, 201510 yr If it's not broke, why fix it? If progress is all the ######in'n & moanin' 'bout how FSX needs the latest/fastest PC & reams of printed out tweaks to get FSX running smoothly with similar frames that we get with FS9. Also, do we need to remember what the 'A' & 'S' view keys do, & how to get back to our normal cockpit view when all we actually want to do is to fly? (so what if, by pressing a bunch of keys can get us a view of the left undercarriage) Yup, maybe the hassle of updating our 'out the box' working sim to a pain in the b_tt sim that needs surgery to work does scare us. BTW, what's a TV? Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
June 29, 201510 yr VAS is to do with memory allocation for specific applications isn't it? If FSX performs this more effectively, then surely it should run smoother than FS9 at higher settings, not be a stuttery, glitchy mess on a system that can run FS9 at consistent and smooth FPS with everything on the right. Yes, I tried all the .cfg tweaking etc, and that did help a bit, but for all the hassle, FSX isn't THAT much better, it's of a similar vintage to FS9 only it was released in a bit of a hurry and doesn;t work as well. One day, there'll be a new sim that isn;t based on FSX tchnology like P3D is, and has the traffic and ATC that X-Plane lacks (although from a pure flying pov, that is the best sim by a mile) and then I'll jump on the bus (or plane), until then its a no-brainer, X-Plane for IVAO and FS9 for solo simming.
June 29, 201510 yr You shouldn't. You can also go back to watch your good ol' black and white TVs too... I forget progress and change scares some folks... And I forgot some people can't help but keep their opinions to themselves and just let others do what they enjoy... I forgot that other peoples decisions and choices make some feel entitled to voice that THEIR opinion is better. What positive have you brought to the conversation? Why do you care if people still enjoy FS9? How does it impact you? Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
June 29, 201510 yr Raven didn't forget anything, he simply doesn't know that most of us have already tried FSX, and failed to fix it just like he will, and returned to FS9. He doesn't know that back in the day, sharper minds than ours also tried to fix FSX, couldn't do it, and pronounced it not only a bad sim but a litigiously bad program of any kind. I seem to remember talk of bringing a class action against MS... When progress and change costs us time and money like that, we don't forget it. However, when progress and change really is for the better, we'll be there before you are Raven. We have learned the hard way what the difference is between a flightsimmer and a part-time systems analyst who thinks he's a flightsimmer, thanks to FSX. June 29, 201510 yr I am wondering what a New Entrant Simmer - if there is such a thing - would choose? Certainly FS2004 out of the box isn't really all that flash, is it? We're a decade or so down the FS9 tweaking road now, but what if you don't have that advantage? Would all the experience and help available here and elsewhere, tip you toward an FS9.5 sim, or would FSX SE just be so much easier to get into, and better looking from the outset?
June 29, 201510 yr Would N.E.S. have a modern computer, or a computer that is 10 years old running Win XP?
July 2, 201510 yr Unfortunately FS9 is dying. I am still using since day 1. But the lack of new products (aircrafts/scenery) is making me move to something else: P3D? PMDG should have continued develop products for FS9. At least they could have been used... Ghiom
July 2, 201510 yr Nothing better than the good old Level-D 763 has been made. IFlys are far from the quality of the Level-d even if much better than the rest of FS9 half cooked projects: Feelthere, PSS, CLS... Only PMDG could have done better for FS9...
July 2, 201510 yr Unfortunately FS9 is dying. My FS9.x is more alive than ever thank you... and will be for some time. If you wish to fly FSX or PDiddy just stick it on your HD as well. Each sim has it advantages and disadvantages. My FS Videos

I could care less about fancy trees and PMDG awesomenes if I'm flying at 15 FPS...and honestly I'd rather fly than sit here and "tweak" my FSX.cfg file. This thread is hilarious BTW...
July 2, 201510 yr I don t disagree as i am still on FS9. Yet what s the point in having a nice stable platform if there is very little to fly on with (commercial airliners at least)...
July 2, 201510 yr Well Ghiom, you're singing to the choir here. You should ask on the Level-D and PMDG forums about any new projects for FS9... ...and then look happy with all the half-cooked stuff we all enjoy! Hehehehe!! Tim Wright "The older I get, the better I was..."

Every sim on my system; FS9/FSX:MS/P3D 2.4/ XPX10.40b5 all work and deliver. What's 'broken' about FSX? You need hardware to run it. Get the hardware..and it works...all of them do on my 6 year old system.... Broken,.... any of them? Not.....
