Again, just to clarify and not to take sides - UTX is a different company from either Flight1 or GEX - they use Flight1 Ecommerce wrapper to distribute and collect. Allen is a great guy and dedicated to providing the best product at the best price for his customers.

Vic

Once again -- AGREED  !! Many dealings with Allen and he bends over backwards to please every customer and potential customers .   UTXv2  ( I only use the US version) is a fantastic product and works great with FTX Global.  They even created special textures to blend better for Global users :)

Mike I have NO performance issues using UTX v2 at night.  Their lighting is beautiful and their configuration tool allows you to choose from hundreds of combinations changing colors of street lights, size of lights, distance between lights, on and on .. you won't regret the purchase :)

From their manual :

With UTX V2.0, we have added a new type of lighting option that allows different types of light objects to be attached to UTX roads using custom autogen objects from the base simulator (i.e. FSX or Prepar3D). The LightsForUtx interface allows you to have complete control over the way the lights look, behave and tweak for performance. This feature set includes:  Adds 4 new, highly configurable autogen light slots to FSX/P3D.  Each light slot can be assigned to each unique type of UTX road.  Each light slot can be assigned to one of 12 possible light objects.  Each light slot can be assigned to varying light densities, distances between lights, road offset locations and scale size.  Alternate object libraries can be selected, when available, to change light framework (shapes).  Alternate textures can be selected, when available, to change light color and look.

You are most welcome Mike! I see you have purchased UTX - you will be happy. I have noticed no hit with the lights. The performance hit comes if you select a lot of moving traffic. You'll notice in the utx config tool a bar graph of sorts that will give you an indication of performance hit as you select or deselect each item.

Their support forum will generally get a response directly from Allen so if you have any issues - he will gladly assist.

Well seeing as I started this thread I really didn't think it would create the up roar it has. I really don't like these type discussions and everyone is  entitled to their opion, Nick included although he doesn't take part in these forums. I thought long and hard about this but I purchased this software. I have only flown with it for a very short time but to say I'm impressed is an understatement. By the way I do own FTX Global and Vector and have used them to a great degree with satisfaction. To say one is better than the other is really a personal taste thing. Now, I did do a complete new install of P3D and took out all ref to Global and Vector as suggested by Nick. He is right, it has to be removed. The only thing I have installed is GEP3D with UTX USA 2.1 and for those interested it found UTX Canada and installed it. I just flew over Vancouver and Toronto both default and it was hard not to get excited. For those interested my setting in P3D were all maxed scenery wise and everything else pretty much to the max. I played around with some setting in the Nivida control panel and some others. The frames were set to unlimited and I was getting very good performance with the counter hitting the high 50-70". Yes that is correct. I flew in Switzerland and was very impressed with the LC, and mountains. By the way there was NO, NO, NO stuttering. Just smooth. So far to say Global is better I am afraid I would have to differ on that one as I now have used both. A word on the auto gen popping effect. I had to look very hard to see any and I did but it was so un  noticeable while flying. Not sure how they pulled that one off. You can see scenery way out in the distance as it fades out like it should. Enough of my rambling. I was un sure but I took a chance and bought it. A lot of money but IMHO well worth it. You can all have your thoughts about NICK but him and his team have given us something. Just my humble opinon FWIW

Hi,

Picked up UTX, have not read the manual nor have I played with any adjustments yet... Night lighting looks nice... However, the night light distance is not far enough in P3D2.5. I've got lights popping up in front of me during the entire approach, that's unacceptable.

It's after 1am, I'll have a serious go tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone.

No promises but I will try to put up a video on Youtube to show GEX with UTX in P3D if anybody is interested.

I do not have Global installed anymore so I will not be able to show any comparison shots but if you have an area you would like to see just post here and at some point in the next couple days I will try to honor your request.

Night Environment provides the best solution that I have found so far for night lighting and I've tried them all.

Yup thats an issue I am not crazy about if they can do something about that it would be great  - I have posted on this in simforums but they say it is what it is - drives me crazy so its collecting dust now

Hey Mike - just for clarification - although both products (GEX and UTX) use Flight1 as their distribution source, they are entirely different companies. UTX is released by Scenery Solutions and Allen Kreisman (a principal) has posted here often. His product IS exceptional. It is more in competition with FTX Vector than anything else.

I have FTX Global, etc and I use UTX for the vector product and it is exceptional!

Vic

Yes that's a really good point to make Vic.

Ultimate Terrain is a completely different developer, and their attitude is to work WITH existing and highly successful products to enhance them, Not openly ridiculing the opposition and demanding the customer makes a choice between `ours` and `theirs` is the only sensible option for the limited market we exist in. UT/UTX has a loooong history of working with its customers and their existing setups. Allen isn't Nick.

Just as well, really. Telling me my opinion doesn't count because of the forum in which I choose to express it, from the safe confines of a closed forum that doesn't permit free and frank discussion is not sensible as customers simply decide the trouble isn't worth the gain. Defeats the object of the exercise, I would have thought ?

For North American simmers, FTX and UTX is currently THE best choice as unlike these chaps textures, they can be made to work with everything you currently have as a Global/Vector customer.
