FTX Trees HD Released

Featured Replies

Another question, this time for DarkstarF16, i own Natural Trees X which i bought for FSX. I tried to install that in P3D v2 but the installer got a fatal error. So I thought it was not compatible with V2 and i gave up. There is an alternative way to install or fixed installer?

tks

Correct, I got the same error so I contacted them. I got a response within a few minutes and they gave me a link to a modified installer which worked in my 2.5 version of P3D

I guess I was in their time zone so I have to say their support was excellent.

but I will not judge solely on the basis of tests of others so I guess I will give it a chance...

And THAT is my exact point Alessandro - which would have saved 3 pages of comments on the truthfulness of Orbx advertising and "I will never by from them again!" statements.

As I have said, on my system which is high end, I lock FPS at 20 so it doesn't mean anything to me other than I may be able to kick the slider up a notch.

What I'm saying, it's ONLY YOUR opinion that counts! :)

If it works for me and does not work for you - you are unhappy, and rightfully so.

Anyhow, I like the looks of them - hope you enjoy them.

What a rollercoaster this thread has been! I'll leave it at that.

I am very pleased with the HD trees. In my opinion they are a significant improvement over default and Global textures, and create a vastly more plausible world in which to fly my GA aircraft, especially my bush planes. Worth my pennies.

Fortunately, even though ESP is somewhat of the 800 pound gorilla in the black box, it is possible to peek inside and deconstruct what is going on.

Hi, your post makes me think i need to explain better the reason of my thread.

I decided to post in this thread because the tone it was at the moment "ok no FPS increase but no matter they are beauty"

I think it is bad for our comunity  that a developer can advertise something that is not there and people don't blame that. They made a very bold statement (CPU upgrade like FPS increase) in the product description that has prompted many to buy the product even if they were not really interested in the trees, seen up close.

If we permit that developers who until recently have created fantastic products may rest on their laurels we do not do a favor to the improvement of the simulation

I think now at this very moment some will be saying, "maybe i have to buy it if $ 20 increase performance" and probably buy it just because it is an orbx product.

As i wrote before i hope that is not the case (but reading previous posts i figured the opposite)  i'm right now downloading the product and i will post here when i have an answer (mine).

So in short is this product worth buying or not? so much here posted that hard to realize if its good or bad :)

so yes or no ?

- I am not a real pilot, but i did stay at holiday inn express -

so yes or no ?

As you see some people like this product, others don't.

So whose opinion exactly will you find to be ultimate?

Not for us to decide. That's your job.

I understand but my point to you and others is simple -

No matter WHAT you think or decide, good or bad, it is ONLY your opinion. If you like it, it doesn't make it good for someone else and if you do not like it, it doesn't make it bad for someone else.

As with EVERY product I have ever seen released for flight sims - there will be those who love it and those who hate it. It means NOTHING at all to anyone but the individual. Even if the reviews are superb, you could still buy it and find it doesn't work FOR YOU.

Anyhow, it will be interesting to hear your opinion BUT if you do not get the results you wish - do NOT blame Orbx.

Yes. It is good. I am right, and my opinion is the only one that matters. Those who disagree are demonstrably wrong. If you don't believe me, I WILL WRITE IN CAPS to convince you.

[sarcasm off]  :P

As with any addon, research and make the best decision based on your preferences and hardware. Many simmer's "truth" will not be true for you.

That said, I like the HD trees very much, and it works for me. Check my computer specs if you wish.

I think one can blame ORBX if they write in product description that it "will" improve performance and it is like a cheap CPU upgrade if he cannot see it, because they have no placed conditions or limitations for obtaining that but rather gave the trumpets great voice ("IMPROVE" CAPS ON).

Given that, it is sufficient a number even minimal, but statistically significant number of cases in which there is no improvement to make their marketing misleading.

This is not an opinion, it is a fact: they put that like a plain upgrade for all and that is not, do you think that is not serious? Is not worth 3 pages of this thread?  What are we discussing here?

If the trees are beautiful or not is an opinion and therefore does not count, but the fact that at least some will not see increase in FPS is indisputable. it is known how this aspect is important for simmers so they could pay more attention and care.

BTW i just finished my first test:

FTX PAYA and FTX NZMF, ASN OFF (clear sky) A2A Piper Cherokee. RIG=I74790K, ASUS Z97-P, 8gb RAM, ATI R9 270X. Settings, Rob's one Tree autogen very dense. TEXTURE SIZE (TLM=1024)

FRAPS 60 seconds (straight takeoff) on 2 sessions

FTX NZMF OFF=50.417 AVG

FTX NZMF ON=50.550

FTX PAYA OFF=53.750

FTX PAYA ON=52.333

i made also other less systematic test which confirmed that.

Conclusion; no FPS increase over here (i'm seriously disappointed, because i hoped contrary)

Also in the current time (season) giving an overview i do not notice a significant improvement in the appearance of the trees (IMHO).

Therefore i cannot suggest to buy FTX TREES HD, that is of course MY first impression i will update here.

The test is only valid with tml 2048 ;-)

no, in the manual they say that with 1024 you can have better fps

but i will try 2048

So in short is this product worth buying or not? so much here posted that hard to realize if its good or bad :)

so yes or no ?

I bought this product and have been happy with it.  It's fairly inexpensive, the trees definitely look better to my eyes, and it certainly didn't hurt performance and might have even helped a little.

The place where I especially noticed it was on the ground at a small airport where there are several trees in the immediate area.  The trees had a more realistic look, which helped with the immersion as I was taxiing to the active, plus it was a nice touch that a couple of them were in full bloom, just like they should be in Springtime.

Overall, based on the kind of flying I do (GA aircraft away from the big international airports), I would buy it again.

Keith

Just tried 2048 and noticed a small and unexpected improvement in FPS activating TREES HD

NZMF OFF 2K= 42.967

NZMF ON 2K= 46.300

PAYA OFF 2K=50.300
PAYA ON 2K=54.650

The improvement is around 7-8% i cannot understand why, infact in the manual i can read:

"Note that raising your TML setting above the default value is NOT REQUIRED for Trees HD to function properly. If you don't wish to raise your TML setting, Trees HD will still function properly, you will get a noticeable improvement in tree appearance, along with the performance improvement."

Also i think P3D default textures are max 1024 so i cannot understand why 2K textures with TREES HD OFF actually give worse results than TREES HD OFF 1K texture! (50,3 vs 53,7) EDIT: probably FTX airport textures are also 2K....rex i set all to 1K

I need to try again
