FTX Trees HD Released

Featured Replies

Anyone else have un-enhanced screenshots of their HD Trees purchase.

I just bought and downloaded and make this comparison straight away. Set up a camera with EZDOK at 12:00 and took a screenshot of each season, then did the same with FTX Trees installed.

First impressions are that they're nice. Definitely a bump in quality over the default ones but I'll be honest and say that they didn't impress me as much as the initial promo screenshots did.

BTW these are completely untouched, just converted to JPEG. and don't forget it's only one area in the world...So I'll reserve judgement until I've seen more of em!

Also, as you can see they're a 1 to 1 replacement so I don't see why some people are suddenly getting trees on runways etc? (Orbx Global/Vector/OpenLC Europe, no 'full fat' regions)

Since I fuel my plane for exactly a hundred bucks each time, fuel prices don't matter to me ...

Compare apples and oranges much Ollie?

Unless you expect that with increased FPS I'll travel faster and save fuel?

and make sure that all the vegetation files have a Date Created of 3/22/15 @ around 5PM. If not, HD Trees did not install correctly.

I think you mean 3/2/2015 ?  I don't have any that are 3/22/2015 for created date.  Think you mean "Apply Group" not "Save Group".  But agree under Settings one needs to verify Orbx Trees and HD trees have selected (X).

Also I only see "some" not all Veg*.* files (trees ones) that have the new dates.  Some files where NOT changed that I expected to be changed ... specifically: veg_Sycamore1.dds (and it's season variants).

Perhaps the Orbx installer is missing some files?

As far as VAS, I ran some apples to apples tests and found no difference is VAS or FPS.  But if I don't have a complete HD tree set that might explain why.

But I must admit I'm a little puzzled at how a HD tree file size of 683 KB is going to use less VAS (and load faster) than a default tree file size of 171 KB?

Cheers, Rob.

What do they look like from 15000 ft?

Seriously?

LMAO. That's funnny.

Great uploads Neil.

There is certainly a difference but I guess the novelty would wear off pretty quick, for me anyway.

Thanks for this - a really helpful side-by-side.

Judging by your shots, there are subtle but pretty distinctive differences in seasonal textures - fall and winter in particular.  In summer, it's harder to tell the difference.

This would appeal to me as a low-and-slow flier, but that said - my main interest would be in reducing the VAS and frame-rate impact of default trees, so (per Rob's post) if the gains aren't dramatic (assuming any gains), I might sit on the fence a bit longer.  But will keep an eye on the results and the commentary.  Thanks again, and keep them coming...

I like how in the fall and winter shots, the trees are better color-matched to the texture.  Its most apparent on the furthest hill.

Excellent thanks for the comparison pix Neil.

I'll probably buy tonight although a little concerned as Rob's installation doesn't appear to include all the new textures.

Cheers
