Pro ATC X update

Featured Replies

May I ask you a couple of simple questions?

Does Pro-ATC-X also handle VFR and, if yes, how?... Does this tool also work with saved flights (due to lack of time, I often use saved flights to use different approaches to the same destination airport)?

Hello!

VFR is not supported. Only IFR and for optimal results, origin and destination should have SID/STAR in place.

By saved flights, do you mean 1) flying the same saved flight plan multiple times or 2) saving/stopping flight during cruise and continuing later on.

1) is supported

2) should be supported, but not if you are already in the arrival phase of the flight. I'm not sure if you can only resume from cruise more than once though.

To be honest, I haven't used these features as I always create my flight plans from scratch (a lower/higher altitude might save fuel based on winds, old route might not be valid after AIRAC cycle update and so on).

Hope this helps!

I couldn't help but laugh.   I really wish the developer the best as I'm sure its hard work as a one man team but maybe he should hire some help so it would be twice a year updates.   I've been wait

  • My interest is that I am a paying customer of Mr Boutabba and would really like to be able to use the product I have purchased now rather than some time in the next few years. I have been having deal

  • Yes we get it, it works for you so everybody else is just whining about minor issues. Those "minor issues" make the product unusable for a lot of folks.   I guess the developers attitude has rubbed

Hi Jarkko, thanks a lot for your reply.

OK. One simple question. What happens with the default ATC (FSX-SE, in my case) after installing ProATC-X? Is it completely removed or is it still available when needed, for example for a VFR flight? I ask you this, because I find that the default ATC is still pretty good for VFR, although totally inadequate for IFR.

I mean 2. My saved flights are normally IFR flights and the save point is normally before TOD. When I open a saved at a later date, I like to make changes to weather, day/time and use different STARs and approaches to different runways of the same destination airport. So, to answer your question, yes, my saved flights always begin before the "arrival phase", if I get you right. Can ProATC-X be activated also in such cases or does it only work when you perform a complete flight from gate to gate?

ProATC doesn't override the default ATC. When you run ProATC, you can go to to the sim's sound menu and disable voices. This way the two ATC's won't talk over each other. ProATC also has it's own dedicated in-game menu so it will not mess with the default ATC.

Then the saved flights. In theory, you could resume a saved flight about 25-40nm from TOD all the way to landing (at least ones). Having said that, there are dedicated tools for practicing approaches (was it FSIPANEL?), that would suite better for this type of training, than ProATC (at least in my opinion).

I have FSiPanel. Actually i would like to practice approaches with the aid of the ATC. FSiPanel is a nice tool, but it is more intended for practicing landings themselves. This is the reason of my question. For the records, I have seen today that the developer released a new version for P3D V3. I don't use P3D, but may me of interest here, since we are in the Prepar3d forum.

Thanks for your inputs.

Jarkko--will this run via SimConnect over a network?  I'm a long-time Radar Contact guy and I use it via a client PC.

It sounds like the Pro-ATC X dev has come back to life after disappearing for a long time, might be worth another look if its being actively developed still.

I used radar Contact years ago while it was still actively being developed. Pro ATC is on an entirely different level. No comparison.

No comparison...in what way?

Runs distributed over a network?  Stable?  Adheres to proper procedure and terminology?  Handles VFR and IFR flights?  Active, helpful customer support?

Last time I compared the two, Pro-ATC X did none of those things better that RC, if at all.  In fact, last time I looked their forums were dead and the dev had pretty much gone on walkabout with a lot of major bugs still present.

So now I'm looking to see what, specifically, Pro-ATC X users think has improved/changed in the last few years.  Yes comparison.

Would be very interested in this comparison myself.  I'm an RC4 user too, when I fly w/ ATC.  To be honest, I've gotten sick of the repetitiveness of RC4.  The lack of SID/STAR support which then results in the darn "I need you at FL110 40 miles from xxx", "You missed your crossing altitude..."  blah blah blah - every flight when you do try to follow a STAR.  I always know what assigned altitudes I'll get, when I'll get them etc.  It almost never changes.  Very, very scripted.  And of course, no ground handling.

So, very curious to learn of these new updates in what I thought too was a dead product.

Never used RC4 over a network.Try the new version and see what you think. I had a copy of RC4 that I got when it was in it's heyday, and reactivated about 5 months ago. Got Pro ATC, and then deleted RC4. Your mileage may vary.  I could tell you that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but until you try it yourself, what I say proves nothing.

In the last 2 days I have flown 5 approaches into different airports using Sids and Stars that Pro ATC gets from the Airac that I have in my aircraft and -pro ATC  1508 Navigraph. Everything works, the sids and stars are real world, altitudes are specified at waypoints, descent orders are per the star altitude constraints. doesn't get more realistic than that. You can even pull up each star and sid and approach, and look at the data yourself.  Moving map shows you where you are, flight plans are generated by the program, I even have background ATC that sounds like the real thing.. RC4 was good in it's day, but that day was many years ago

Hey guys, I'm on the fence on this one as well.  What happens if there's no STAR or SID? Does ATC use vectors?.

Thanks!

cheers

Yes.

I got had once..I'm not going back for seconds.

Sorry.

I just bought Pro-ATC, and I have to say after one flight that I'm happy (I know, I know, not a significant sample, but ...).

The forums have been updated, by the way.

It should.I did not  check how this newest version vectors you around but if the older version (1442) is anything to by if you rely on proatc  vectoring you end up zig zaggin into oblivion all the way to the FAF .I mean you do not  get nice directions  for your  downwind, base legs  like you would with RC.

Been flying with it for about 6 months on every flight and I do at least 2 flights a day, and I have never had that experience once. Sounds much  more like you are decribing default ATC
