Pro ATC X update

Featured Replies

Runs distributed over a network?  Stable?  Adheres to proper procedure and terminology?  Handles VFR and IFR flights?  Active, helpful customer support?

1) "Runs distributed over a network?" ProATC runs over the network using SimConnect. I prefer to have ProATC on my laptop so I can have ProATC's "Moving Map" open during the whole flight.

The moving map displays the the airport layout so in case you do not have maps for your airport, you can taxi by looking up taxiways from the map. Also waypoint altitude restrictions (and ProATC's TOD) are shown on the map, so you can even fly without plates if need be.

Other useful information is the weather info and the frequencies in use.

2) "Stable?" Has been since 1.4. So far, no problems for me with 1.7.

3) "Adheres to proper procedure and terminology". Not possible and haven't seen this done by any ATC add-on. There is too much variance around the world in what is considered "right". Europe is a small place and still you would be hard pressed to find two countries that operate the same way.

ProATC uses terminology that can be understood around the world.

4) "Handles VFR and IFR flights?" Only IFR. No plans of VFR support that I know of.

5) "Active, helpful customer support?" I would like to think so, as I've been one of the forum moderator for the last 2 year ;)

With the launch of 1.7 a completely new customer forum has been opened.

I couldn't help but laugh.   I really wish the developer the best as I'm sure its hard work as a one man team but maybe he should hire some help so it would be twice a year updates.   I've been wait

  • My interest is that I am a paying customer of Mr Boutabba and would really like to be able to use the product I have purchased now rather than some time in the next few years. I have been having deal

  • Yes we get it, it works for you so everybody else is just whining about minor issues. Those "minor issues" make the product unusable for a lot of folks.   I guess the developers attitude has rubbed

Are there any plans to have the text output able to be displayed on a networked machine ?

RC4 and PFE can do this and it is nicer than cluttering up the main Sim display with text.

Not that I know of. To be honest, with FS2Crew, I've gotten so used to the green bar, that I didn't realise, that it can be disruptive. But now that you have mentioned it, I can see what you mean.

Programs that use FSUIPC/WideFS (RC4 and PFE) get this feature out of the box, but as ProATC uses SimConnect, I'm don't know what kind of changes would be needed. I will pass the suggestion along and let's see, what happens.

Quick way about this might be an option to disable the sim text, as all the info given to you by the ATC can be seen on the moving map after you have read back the clearance.

Been flying with it for about 6 months on every flight and I do at least 2 flights a day, and I have never had that experience once. Sounds much  more like you are decribing default ATC

I have been testing the software's vectoring "skills" so to say. What I would do  is  once  I was about to get close to the airport  and usually  before the faf I'd fly away from the rwy/airport to see what   vectors i would get. Now, while Radar contact, pfe and voxatc would line you up with the runway, proatc  just directs you  straight to the faf no matter where you are.

You can already do it now.I am running proatc on a networked machine and  I have  the text running across my fsx machine. It works  just fine. The only thing that  I do not like about proatc,rc being on a networked machine is that  I have to use extra headphones to hear atc talking...

Here is how you do not need an extra pair headphones: I have a cable going from from laptop's headphone output to my sim computer's audio input.

This way you can use single pair of headphones for listening both to the sim and the ATC. You can even loose the headphones if you have speakers attached to your computer.

That is because it steers you to any waypoint that you have missed, to get you back on track. The whole idea of a Star is that you have a path to the runway that is defined so that all aircraft are on the same path. Having planes flying from all different directions to the runway, is not the way ATC likes to see traffic into an airport that has star arrivals.

What I would like is the text displayed in a window on the client machine not the FSX main screen. like showtext by rob van de wiele does for RC4.

Apparently this can be done via a Lua script, Pete Dowson uses this method and I am trying to get my head around his script at the moment.

I have ProATC/X on a netwoked machine and a cheap USB/Bluetooth-adapter (~$20) showing up as a sound card. Then I have a Bluetooth speaker at my simulator machine (and the speaker even have a headphone output if you need this).

I usually use RDP from a laptop (or occasionally from my simulator machine) to show the moving map. Nice because you can disconnect and then connect again without stopping ProATC (in mid flight).

I am very satisfied with my setup.

Hi! Folks,

Does anybody use Pro ATC X v1.7 in P3D v3?

Does Pro ATC X v.17 work well in P3D v3?

I would like to buy, but I am afraid in spend 50 Euro and not work.

Thanks,

JL

Now this has my interest, I would love to see a screenshot of the ATC info on the moving map, this feature may be all I need.

I would love to use a good ATC programe.

Please explain how this would work.

My local airport EGNX has STAR's but they end at holding patterns, never in countless years have I ever seen them used, So its a vector to a 24.4 final fix. One STAR from the north on the charts show the heading to fly and the distance from the fix.

So withing the NG/777 you Enter TNT for the fix, that's not the last point of the STAR and then a heading 116 for 24.4 miles. Then you turn to final fix.

If at the final STAR fix  (ROKUP)will it just vector me straight to the final fix? if so that's wrong, I know this is a hard one, not normal..but!

How would that work?

That is because it steers you to any waypoint that you have missed, to get you back on track. The whole idea of a Star is that you have a path to the runway that is defined so that all aircraft are on the same path. Having planes flying from all different directions to the runway, is not the way ATC likes to see traffic into an airport that has star arrivals.

The purpose of a STAR is a standardized route into the terminal area, not necessarily to any approach fix.  Many, many of them terminate at a fix other than part of an approach.  The expectation is that you'll fly the STAR routing and get an arrival radar pickup at some point along the STAR for vectors to final.  On those procedures, you will almost never fly the entire STAR...you get handed off to approach long before the final fix on the STAR.

From what I'm reading here, Pro-ATC X makes you fly the entire STAR all the way to the last defined fix and then gives you a vector direct to the FAF...is that right?  That would be a really bizarre routing in a lot of places.  Take the PRTZL3 arrival into KIAD for a landing on Rwy 30...the expectation is that after TICON you'll get RV to final--in this case there is no FAF because the only approaches to that runway involve circling or a visual/contact approach.

Which brings to mind another question--does Pro-ATC X allow circling or visual approaches?

If you arrive via the ROUKA1A as an example  you would pick up the ROKUP transition which then takes you nicely into rwy27. it's all in the AIRAC  data.

Now, the STAR's works very differently in the USA than they do in Europe, as someone has already stated.  This is on the next part of the roll out of ProATC/X, once we have got the new voice recording software completed.

The holding would depending on current traffic inbound at the time. Enable 'holdings' in ProATC and see what happens

Have a look at the AIRAC data (DATA >SID/STAR PROCEDURES)  select your airport and look how STAR >Approaches Transitions >approaches work together in EUROPE!!

Hope that helps

At any time, you can ask ATC for a direct to waypoint, and skip any that you don't want to go to, but you have to ask ATC first, just like in real life. You can't just fly anywhere you want while on a star, that would be crazy.  Pro ATC also has circling and visual approaches, and you can always ask for a different approach than the one that you are assigned.
