Hi Martin;

will it be possible to build and add photorealistic scenery on dtg simulator?

tx for your time

A question and opinion.

Is there any work going on (with the main simulator after Flight School) to integrate global lighting? As in tarmac lights actually cast light, street lighting actually lights up the ground, etc. Basically what XPX has?

IMO, the major lacking area with the current FSX engine is a lack of this and it's the one area where XPX continues to be leaps and bounds better. I think such an improvement should be expected in a next-gen simulator 10 years after FSX's release.

I just looked at the Flight School website and found this:

"Dovetail Games will be attending the Insomnia57 gaming event from 25th to 27th March at the NEC in Birmingham. Stop by and get a first look at Dovetail Games Flight School. You can find our stand, along with Aimee and Martin, in the Indie Zone – come by and say hello!"

We sure will be. I myself will be on the stand along with Aimee. If you spot us, come say hi and give Flight School a try.

Martin, would you agree with John Venema from Orbyx, when he says:

'Here's something that may surprise you all: has it not occurred to you that hard-core simmers are not the #1 target demographic for DTG? Their target is the 140 million Steam accounts and Flight School is the vehicle on getting 'bums on seats' so to speak.'?

Will there be a Cherokee version with wheel pants? It's quite a sharp looking little plane and I'd love to see the Cherokee version with wheel pants in Flight School.

We are not currently planning on including one, but I will mention it to dev team for consideration.

don't really have a question at this time just wanted to thank you for the great information and continued outreach.

It is my pleasure. It is a lot of fun to hang out with you all.

Our "target demographic" is anyone who is interested in a flight simulator game.

We will provide developers with all the tools, documentation and support they need to create great new content for this new platform and will be working closely with them during that process. It is up to developers to decided what they want build with those tools.

Hello Martin.

How many hours will it take for a Flight School student to obtain his license? Will there be a minimum number of obligational hours? Is there attention for that very exciting moment when you are allowed to go solo for the first time? Will there be obligational solo hours? And have you guys also included an examination flight with a virtual examinator?

Cheers, Bert

Hi Martin, I don't know if these questions have already been asked:

1) Will the SDK be accessible to everyone?

2) Will anyone (e.g. freeware developers) be able to make add-ons that can be used in DTG Flight Simulator?

They have indeed already been asked and discussed in great detail. Please have a read back through the thread for all of the details.

TL:DR?

We recognise the passion that exists in the flight simulation community around enabling players to create user generated content. We will have more information to share on this as we get closer to the launch of Dovetail Games Flight Simulator.

No they haven't. All you've said is you will be working closely with third party developers, but that implies other companies, like Orbx and such. All that's pretty clear.

So Murmurs questions are still valid and unanswered. Will EVERYONE get access to the SDK and be able to create addons for DTG Flight Simulator?

Quick questions -

1- The most absolutely annoying thing, for me and many, many others, was the "run as admin" bullcrap with FSX. If you didn't run as admin, your add-ons wouldn't work. I'm still on W7 and won't dare touch W8 and am reluctant to go to W10, so I don't know if the new operating systems are better, but will your products still require one to use an Admin account or "run as admin" privledges? Please avoid it all costs if possible.

While we're on the topic-

2- Any idea what the minimum requirements will be for either or both sims?

Thanks for any info :)

We know that an open SDK is very important to some players. We understand the concerns which are related to that, and over time we will be putting processes in place to address them. We are simply not in a position at the moment to discuss in detail what those will be. We will have more information to share on this as we get closer to the launch.

The reason why FSX: SE requires you to run it as an Admin is allow backwards compatibility with FSX boxed add-ons. These often install outside of the Steam directory structure, and as such it is necessary to allow the sim to look at other sections of your hard drive in order to find them. Since DTG Flight School does not support add-on content and DTG Flight Sim is not backwards compatible, there should be no need for this happen.

We will have the min system specs for DTG Flight School towards the end of the month. We won't have the specs for Flight Sim until later in the year.

Will there be any voice overs so I can relive the experience of my real world instructor screaming "MORE RIGHT RUDDER!" ??

Yep, there sure will be. Most of the flying lessons use voice actors.
