Yes, I previously published both methods of going DIR.

When you tested the Carenado CJ2 .... did it do either method properly for you?

Here's a video of how it's supposed to work:

Looks like a turn then direct to the waypoint.

Same as my tests .. screenshots in post above.

Well,

I am lost also. I just need to know what to look for.

Ray mentioned a few posts prior the screenshots I  look ok for my DTO.

Where is the problem in my screenshot of the DTO?

Your screenshot is not correct, it shows a line between the waypoints and you are intercepting that line. The reason you're appear to be going direct is simply because of the position of your aircraft with relation to the waypoint you're trying to go DTO. If you were to get closer to the first waypoint before doing the DTO, it wouldn't go direct it would intercept the line between them.

Watch the video I posted, that's how it is supposed to work... and the Carenado isn't even close.

Try the flight plan I posted... see if you can get it to do what the PL21 actually does (shown in my video).

Look at your DTK and HSI... Way off.

What you showed is more of the blind squirrel direct. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Ok,

Thanks.

Now I know what to look for when testing.

That looks like an XLS cockpit.

Nope, it is a XLS+. Lots of differences in the two.

Yes it is a XLS+ and it looks like a very modern and nice one, and it also looks like it is flying in a flightsim. Naw, we must be dreaming.

Ray

Give me the flight plan you used in your test and I will show you just how far off that behavior actually is.

Give me that XLS+ and I will fly you anywhere, direct or otherwise.

This was the test plan route I used:

When I selected my DTO waypoint the aircraft turned right and it was just one full right arc .. like a normal turn and then headed directly for the DTO I selected.

Looked right on the map view.

Carenado CJ2 KPWK JORO3 SID to test DTO (direct to waypoint) for any nav error.

How well do you think the CJ2 did?

Your video clearly shows the airplane turning to intercept the prior leg, rather than flying directly to the waypoint.

Bert

Your video clearly shows the airplane turning to intercept the prior leg, rather than flying directly to the waypoint.

Yes I seen that.

Is out of spec .. like too far out of expected track in error laterally  e.g. ... ATC specs ? ... completely unusable sort of thing to be used for a departure?

This departure is expect vectors ...... but I do not know when or what the controllers instructions would be ...

Just for info:

Two U-Tube comments I got on the DTO video:

I DIR TO is normally not issued for such a big heading change. It rather used as a shortcut.  IF you get a DIR TO which requires such a large heading change, you can put the same DIR TO waypoint into the FMS again once you are approximately established on the inbound track.BTW, even the A320 does a rather bad job in this case as well.IRL in such a case I switch to HDG mode, dail in the approximate track and once I'm heading in the approximate direction I punch the DIR TO in.?

In this case, once you notice that you aren't heading exactly to the desired waypoint, you should enter it again as DIR TO.That's how you would do it IRL.?

Or you could do what I do and just fly the fms plan and dont Dir To anywhere

We all know these Carenados dont work properly

Heck your lucky to get it to follow the plan never mind adding anything else to the mix - capturing GS comes to mind - is what it is folks
