HTC Vive vs Rift VR for P3D?

Featured Replies

Make sure you use the Oculus Debug Tool capability for setting the value,  Pixel Per Display Pixel Override to 1.500 or so for improved clarity with either DCS World or War Thunder. Both of these freeware apps run a bit more smoothly than P3D for me and give you a chance to try something else than FSX/P3D to compare the flying experience. I really enjoy flying old pre WWII aircraft in War Thunder - just try a Test Flight so you can fly and see the 3D virtual cockpits (not every aircraft has one though).

  • Well I setup the rift yesterday, it wasn't hard to do , took about 1 hr. Only issue is I have only one hdmi out on my msi 980ti so I had to connect monitor with Dvi while I plugged the rift into my hd

Maybe someone is an owner of Vive/Rift and GTX 1080 and can write about flight sim experience?

That's the reason why I am holding back. I cannot even stand lowish fps (<60fps) with TrackIR using a G-sync monitor. Makes me dizzy after while and it is eye-taxing.

Given the rather constrained dimensions of both types of headsets (and the requirement to have one's eyeballs a mere gnats' whisker away from the internal lenses), does this preclude us older, less than 20-20 vision endowed, visually-impaired guys from donning our 'specs and participating in this wondrous new VR World?

No... In fact you can even wear it with glasses...

You really should go try one out at a store.

I would say between 5 and 8 fps although he is working on improving that as well. I still find using the mouse much more usefull.

Yea, Its very easy to use with mouse so I don't really see a reason to pop for the leap motion.  If there was some sort of glove with feedback that'd be a different story.

As a side note - I just realized what the import window option is - and its incredible!  I can import my P2ATC window and throw it on the seat next to me and just zoom in when needed to see the map, or if I forget my phraseology.  The dev for fly inside really made an incredible piece of software.

This is a liittle tweak for the rift to increase resolution. Havnt tried it yet but people are saying its like having a new piece of hardware.

So I've heard.  I tried it with fly inside but some people say it doesn't work.  Certainly didn't work for me.  Ill have to try this on other titles though.

Curious about this headset, Razer's new updated version... has:

"Individual eye focus for personalized use without glasses.

*diopters cover +4.5 to -2 adjustments to cater to majority of users."

Being I wear glasses, this is interesting to me.

Plus, the price is $399.  Tempting

I've had bad experiences with Razer in the past, I steer clear of them - but thats just me.  Sounds promising though.

I'd prefer to wear my glasses as well. I'm anxiously waiting for this company which successfully did a kickstarter:

 Ryzen 7 5800x, 64gb, 7900XTX 24gb

The quick solution I did for my DK2 is to order a cheap glasses online for like $20, remove its legs, then just used tape to fix it on top of the DK2 lenses. Certainly not very elegant, but more than enough to get the job done...

I tried an Oculus Rift at Best Buy over the weekend and was blown away with just the demo. I will be getting one as soon as one becomes available.

Sat in the dash8 400 today and felt like I was really inside... just wow.  Im still getting used to flyinside controls and settings and will be tweaking for sometime but what a piece of software coupled with the rift. one negative thing for me and this may not apply to everyone but I do get a bit motion sick/dizzy after a while, not sure if it goes away with time but the feeling of motion is so real that the body is confused at whats going on because you physically are not moving but your brain thinks you  are.

I'm interested in the long term effects of VR.  In the Oculus pdf it states...

Take at least a 10 to 15 minute break every 30 minutes, even if you don't think you need it.

I've had bad experiences with Razer in the past, I steer clear of them - but thats just me.  Sounds promising though.

I've actually on the whole had quite the opposite experience with them.  I've never owned one of their laptops (have always been too expensive for the performance they offer compared to others), but have several of their mice, keyboards, and controllers.  Always been happy with each, and like the higher end feel they provide.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on their VR headset v2.

I think every game manual or console I've ever read had similar recommendation for breaks, etc... stretch you legs to avoid clots, rest your eyes etc.

That's true, but the mind is a different matter.  Just curious if there will be side effects long term.

Very cool tech though, would use in the future!
