Aerofly 2 really bad, refunded.

No Zulfi, not yet, specially given the difficulties for you to get it where you live, and the big D/L....

Let's see what the SDK brings.

Flight dynamics wise you have the best UH-1H, the best Mi-8 and the BEST Mig-21 available EVER!

Ok, guess I will wait , now downloading is not much of an issue because I am on a 2MBPS line now.

EARLY ACCESS REVIEW

Posted: June 8

As an old flyer I owned another lately released flight sim and was curious to compare Aerofly FS2 with the other one (knowing, that the intentions of the two differ a little).

Yes, this is not meant to be a full blown simulator (as the other product). Provided that, I was surprised how many of the systems are implemented in Aerofly FS 2. But many (crucial) systems are not.

Pros:

- nice scenery (good graphic engine!!!); very fluidly on ultra settings; gives a much better sense of flying than other stuttering sims (including recently released ones)

- many nav aids available, including ILS

- good variety of airplanes; well modeled

- acceptable physics

- short loading times

- nice views

- easy flight planning (for unpatient pilots)

Cons:

- some important systems are not implemented (yet)

- no ATC (yet); at least some background chatter would improve the atmosphere highly

- bad sounds (aircraft)

- no real weather (yet?)

- no weather presets

- limited scenery/area (west coast US)

- needs more 3D objects (trees, buildings, etc.)

Conclusion:

For a quick ride this is the right product. Very nice grahpic engine. Dovetail should get together with these guys, regarding the engine. I know that the area to fly is limited. But with the fast loading times and the fluid graphics - even on ultra settings - I see much potential for more. Some systems need to be implemented as quick as possible as they are crucial for the product as it's meant to be used:

- LNAV for all airplanes (since you're not able to fly you flightplan automatically without LNAV); at this time it's only implemented in B747 and B737

- the autopilot needs also be improved on most of the airplanes. For example you're not able to set vertical speed on the Learjet (you have to use shortcuts). NAV mode is mostly not implemented; In the B747 you're even not able to tune any radio NAV. Also VNAV would be a nice to have

- more detailed configurations for the main instruments (PFD, ND Lear)

- radio navigation (two NAVs on all modern planes, ADF, etc.)

- Real weather and weather presets

- ability to safe and load flightplans

- ATC chatter (at least, just for the atmosphere)

- AI traffic (you feel very alone in the air)

- better sounds for the aircrafts

- exterior lights should actually emit light!!

I wish to see more scenery, knowing that this means a lot of work. Overall I was surprised by the qualitiy of the product. It seems I expected less. For now Aerofly FS 2 is better than Flight School from Dovetail. Especially regarding the scenery and graphics engine!! Here you can see where to go in that matter!!! But also the variety of planes is well balanced. The physics are ok. Could be much better for a product which tries to sell itself with the slogan "highly realistic physics".

If the flight dynamics are the same of version 1 they aren't bad at all....

I'd had some curiosity about this sim recently, after watching a Youtuber show it off.  It sure looked good for visuals and the presenter stated that the flight dynamics were pretty good too.  Aside from all the negativity, I for one wouldn't pay that much for what I would view as a "paid beta" instead of what they call early access.  Sure, it's pretty obvious that it isn't up to snuff yet for the PC, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt and see how it fairs later on for full release.  I couldn't get passed the cost though on Steam, and again, since this looks to be more like a beta, I'll keep the wallet in the back pocket for now.

I have downloaded the NTTR map @70 KBPS and that map is 24 GB :).

But I will wait for the next updates and keep a close eye on this one.

Arround 4hrs at you D/L rate, probably 5 hrs because it isn't always that much, isn't bad, compared to what it took yu to download Nevada :-)

Don't pay much attention to some ridiculous videos I see in Youtube commenting on bad stall characteristics of some aircraft, and clearly demonstrating the author doesn't really have any near the sightest notion of what stalling is all about :-/

Not saying it looks perfect though - for instance, the default gliders in v1 weren't that great, but at least mucj better than any glider I have used for X-plane, payware included !

I would love to support a company doing something a little different, rather than piggy-backing on existing tech, but at that sort of price?

Surely the whole idea is to get as many people interested in the sim as possible both from a feedback point of view and to get the cash in. But for that the price point needs to be right. At a tenner I'd do it but £29.99? No way.

  • 2 weeks later...

Pardon my post, as I'm not trying to knock anybody and wish this sim became the next great thing as I too yearn for a new great engine. But...

I guess my confusion is why all the expectations from "Early Access" and further development of much needed features this version?  What you have is what you are going to get, with a few bug fixes.

I was a sucker and bought version 1 with all the same excitement ya'll share now, yet saw no continued execution.... it seems most don't realize there was a version 1 that was the same basic thing, only in Switzerland, with no systems, photo scenery, a flight model based on an RC simulator etc.  Sure, it looked pretty, but if that's all I want I can play the same thing for $5 on my iPad.

I can see the vision you guys share, but what the heck improved so dramatically in the years leading up to V2?  Maybe I genuinely missed it.  Otherwise, I see this going the exact same way, pipe dreams of future development that never comes.  I wish it would work, but it didn't come close with V1.

But of course, that is, unless you pre-purchase a copy of V3 for $79.99!  :drinks:

Pardon me but it sounds like you haven't a clue what IPACS are up to...

V2 is intended to be an open sim which is why it is featuring a protracted early access phase so that IPACS team can build the new systems required which were missing from the first simulator. The fact that IPACS are promising to deliver an SDK, on top of global elevation and satellite imagery should tell you something about there amibition.

Right now the simulator is far from finished it's true which is why it's in early access, but to dismiss this as being nothing more than the first simulation isn't at all fair.

I'm seriously considering getting it, but after such a succession of diappointments with the civil flightsims, and money spent on them and add-ons, I'm a bit cautious before putting even more $$$ into it ...

But it looks great, the flight dynamics in the original Aerofly FS were very promissing, so...

I think its pretty good, but I'm not sure there is a sim out there that could hold your attention for long.

It's a bit like the chicken & egg paradox... Should I support it first and proft then... or should I wait first and support when I'm sure I'll profit from it....

Problem is, from IPAC's perspective, it's NOW that they really need the support.

It lloks very nice, and when a guy uses ( like me ) DCS and IL2 over limited scenery areas, why not use Aerofly even if the detailled areas aren't worldwide ?  What I see looks good already.

Having basic IFR is also nice. I know there isn't ATC, but we can use the stations ( are NDBs included too ? ).  Weather can be set to low vsibility, and I like the figures of wind variation in the HUD, so, flying a holding by hand can be trained and is probably rewarding under IMC...

Well, I really have to start preparing to spend yet another $50.... Those guys from MS will ruin us, when they killed MS FLIGHT :-/

BTW Devon, there's a Baron 58 coming for MS FLIGHT ported from MSFS !
