P3D 64 bit status

Featured Replies

:Tounge: I thought I was getting seizures last time I tried X-Plane with all the shimmering scenery...flashing buildings...etc.  I must be the only one I guess because every youtube video I see none of that.  Maybe you need a supercomputer to run but it was awful on mine (with a 6700k/970GTX).  Maybe I'll try 10.50 just for grins but am not falling into the 'grass is greener on the other side' trick again cause it ain't.

I have tried X Plane multiple times over the years, and always felt lucky that I had something else to fly.

  • Complet3D...I like that, but how about:   Repair3D (Microsoft might get offended) Prepar3D64 (Nintendo might take issue with this one) Be-Prepar3D (to shell out a ton of cash for this!)   Regard

  • from what I've seen right now, I agree with you. From what I saw from the xplane 11 stuff and thier engine they are working on, it will be way ahead of p3d.

X-Plane looks extremely dated in its core way of rendering things. Their upcoming PBR might help out a lot but visually, it's a tough one to love. There's a reason why 98% of screenshots I see from that game are the 'safe choice' night shots.

Dont want to start a flame session but I tried xplane and although it has some cool features liked curved runways and the night lights look cool everything else just feels bland, Not to mention the controls setup isnt very easy to do. Love p3d and thankful LH has continued to develop this aging platform and trying to get the most out of it.

Seriously Bob....you really made me laugh...I could say the same thing about P3D with its BIG problems with microstttuuuutttttters, VAS and the dreaded blurries that will never go away. There is no such thing as "butter-smooth" in P3D as there is in XP and yes visually P3D is better but that is IT, almost everything else you have and call "eye-candy" has cost you all $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

What is nice, is that we have several quality simulation platforms which are continually improving, and we have more on the way!

It wasn't so long ago that people in the community were openly praying for a large developer to get involved, and now we have two of them!

It's a great time to be in flight simulation.

Best wishes to everyone.

I have zero microstutters, and have never had a VAS. Only time i had blurries is when the FSDT add on manager inserted AM=14 into my P3D cfg. Once deleted, no more blurries. Must be something wrong with your setup. The only time X plane looks good to me is night time.

Felt the same after trying the MSFS/P3D series. To each his own.

64 bit will be welcome indeed! And I will be buying the DTG version in the fall. In the meantime I have a moratorium on buying any further addons for the 32 bit version.

Sorry for answering a bit late. I tried X-Plane several times from earlier to the latest demo, too. No doubt, the demo ist just that: ugly. The full version out of the box is not better.

However, after buying the full version I added two game changers: Aipilot's HD Mesh3 and Tony's World2XPlane Sceneries. These two alone turned the ugly duck into a white swan immediately. And they both are free.

I just completed a flight from Vancouver to Squamish which I know quite well from John's and Holger's Vancouver3+ and FTX PNW as well as a bit from real-life. While X-plane scenery is not yet in the league of Vancouver3+ with all its hand-crafted models, it's definitely all but ugly anymore. And my home town in Germany looks ten times better and close to reality in this combo than in the present best ORBX offer (Global/OpenLC/Vector). Which may or may not change after FTX Germany South appears, should it materialize during my remaining life span.

I wan't deny X-Plane has shortcomings in the field of AI, missing PMDG planes (I only fly GA anyway), and several others. However, the sole conclusion from the demo certainly comes up short.

Kind regards, Michael

You can add to the shortcomings, A2A aircraft, change of  seasons, good ATC, good clouds,........

I personally wouldn't call Aipillot's HD mesh a 'game changer'. It's such a poor representation in many countries, I'm not even sure it's an improvement. My own little country of Denmark turns into a grummy looking thing with this mesh. Many cities are represented by dull grey slabs, urban areas by some brown spots, poor looking forests, overall the country ends up looking like a construction site. A far cry from the beautiful yellow and green fields I can get from OrbX's rendition.

Their UHD "Scandinavia" (Barely half of it) makes Norway have this homogeneous visual appearance, even some of the mountains and rocks turn into a green sludge.

Also appears there's little to no vector data, or the implementation is terrible. The coastlines and shapes of the rivers is laughable at best. I'd take boring straight lines over the triangles and demonic summoning circles this thing throws up.

None of this is helped by the fact that the models and trees in X-Plane, just don't look right on the terrain. Not sure if we're back to the dated rendering technique, a difference in lighting on terrain and models or what but it looks completely off. Doesn't look natural at all. Doesn't matter how much OSM data you throw at it.

Is it an improvement over the default terrain? Yes. Would I ask for a refund if I had paid for any of this? YES!

Did you try the airfoillabs planes? For clouds and heaven I use SkyMaxxPro, and for my taste that's sufficient, but there are more cloud addons. The rest: agreed.

Actually, I don't want to talk anyone into converting to X-Plaine, even more, as I am still flying Prepar3d most of the time. My point was that judgement based on the demo alone may be misleading, and I stand to this.

A friend of mine has X Plane on his PC and also P3D, which is mostly what he flies. He had some payware SEL aircraft, and I tried a Cessna and since I  have many hundreds of hours flying a Cessna in real life, I thought this would let me judge the flight dynamics, It didn't fly like a real Cessna that I ever flew. I just didn't like the look of the scenery, other than at night. From P3D, I felt it was a major step backwards.

Okay, Bob, in this case I can't help. It must be bad then.
