October 25, 20169 yr Martin, Here are my DTGFS questions for when you can answer them. + I assume 64 bit? + Is this a new graphics game engine or is this a tweak of the FSX engine from 2006? + What is the compatibility like for existing FSX/FSX:SE add-ons? + Will it have better ATC, FSX is really not that good and Fly!2K had better + DTG is not planning something stupid like the MS Flight 3rd party store idea right? I didn't mind it but $7 for a crappy paint of a so-so airplane was ridiculous. Jhan Jhan M. Jensen KOGD / KSLC Beta Tester: PMDG [MD-11, 747v2(LCF/-8), J41, NGX, 777, 747v3], FlightBeam [KSFOhd, KMSPhd], PacSim [KSLC, KRNO], Turbulent Designs [KIDA, TerraFlora, KGFI], Drezweicki Designs [Patches], Aerosoft [Airbus A32X Professional], Microsoft [FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS9, FSX], Fly2K!
October 25, 20169 yr The first two have been answered already in the past.It will be 64bit, it's based on the engine of FSX with improvements (part of which were already released with their game Flight School), and Martin said existing products won't be compatible because they feel the need to make a cut with the past to keep developing the sim. That doesn't mean that existing addon developers won't be able to make their old addons compatible for the new sim tho Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

IIRC, you will be able to buy addons in the same way as you currently do but you will also be able to buy addons via steam, although they are referred to as DLC by steam, in the same way as for any other steam-game.

It's worth pointing out that Martin has already stated the content creation tools will be released "over time" by which I assume he means only Steam content will be available for some time after launch. Now you can read into that what you will. Cheers, Geoffrey Easton

Now you can read into that what you will. I disagree with that. Smaller developers might not be able to create new contents immediately but I think the larger developers will be able to create add-ons/DLCs without a public release of the creation kit. As I said, it is also my impression that such content will be available in the same way as it is today (in addition to availability on steam)

The base engine is same as FSX, but we have heavily modified it, and we are using other plugins and software too. It is really a mixture of systems. - There are currently no plans for backwards compatibility. - Improvements have been made to the ATC. It depends what you consider to be better. We have long term plans for further development of the ATC beyond this too. - The new sim will be open to third party developers. It is completely up to them what sort of content they want to make for it. We will just be providing them with the tools to do so. - Martin

Thanks. Jehan Kateli
October 26, 20169 yr Commercial Member The new sim will be open to third party developers. It is completely up to them what sort of content they want to make for it. We will just be providing them with the tools to do so. All third party developers or the one chosen by Dtg ?? Please clarify your sentence On steam forum you said Only devs chosen by dtg will have sdk all 'others' will have to wait Only chosen dtg dev are allowed to produce payware All 'others' can only do freeware Correct me if we understand wrong
October 26, 20169 yr Hi Martin, How does this sim compare to P3D? Is this sim more advanced than P3D in terms of performance and other improvements? If you could compare the new sim to P3D in it's current state or at release, which version of P3D closely resembles it? Jeff Thomson
October 27, 20169 yr Hi MartinIs it to early to ask what Developers are known to be on-board at this stage or who will be? ORBX probably, but anyone else? would hope REX and A2A will be able to produce content and more devs too hopefully.
October 27, 20169 yr Author Commercial Member Hey Martin, Can we expect the new sim to look noticeably "prettier" than Flight School, or will the graphics mostly look the same? Thanks. Yes, although "prettier" is subjective. What I can say is that a number graphical improvements have been implemented in the sim since Flight School. - Martin The new sim will be open to third party developers. Please clarify your sentence On steam forum you said Only devs chosen by dtg will have sdk all 'others' will have to wait Only chosen dtg dev are allowed to produce payware All 'others' can only do freeware Correct me if we understand wrong I can't comment on the fine details of our partnerships with developers for a number of obvious reason. What I can say is that we are working with a select group of well known developers at this time. This is not because we want to exclude any developers, but rather we already had existing relationships with them, so it made sense to start with them. Over time we expect that range of developers to expand. - Martin Hi Martin, How does this sim compare to P3D? Is this sim more advanced than P3D in terms of performance and other improvements? If you could compare the new sim to P3D in it's current state or at release, which version of P3D closely resembles it? No idea. P3D are off doing their thing and we are doing ours. Our focus is on developing the best flight simulator we can. We don't worry about what other developers are doing, instead we are concentrate on what simmers tell us they want. - Martin Hi Martin Is it to early to ask what Developers are known to be on-board at this stage or who will be? ORBX probably, but anyone else? would hope REX and A2A will be able to produce content and more devs too hopefully. I can't comment on what developers we are working with at this time. - Martin I have NO expectations for what i am about to ask, but still... worth a try: would it look ANYTHING like the Outerra engine etc. Just anything close? Outerra looks very nice, but the world is made up of far more than grass and trees. - Martin
