October 31, 20169 yr Author Commercial Member To what extent do you think you will have achieved that by release? You can never please everyone ErichB, so it is hard to say. We have always said that this is long term project for us. Development is not going to stop once we release it. - Martin
October 31, 20169 yr Hi Dovetail Games A feature I believe is lacking from flight simulators is progression. Will you be implementing some sort of career model or progression system to the game? A career mode could greatly add to the flight simulator experience as it gives players a realistic feeling of being a real world pilot. Thank you for answering our questions.
November 1, 20169 yr A good day to you, Will this only be available on Steam? I hope not. I want my PC as clean as possible, no trash whatsoever. To me, Steam is just a vehicle for annoying ads and unwanted actions (updates etc.) It's MY pc and I'M the one who should be in control. Also, I 'm just NOT really keen on installing a program (Steam) simply to run yet another program (FS) This is totally redundant and absolutely not necessary. If Steam for some reason doesn't work the way it should - wich happened to me a few times - you can't play the game. I speak from experience because I also have Train Simulator and these kind of things really got me irritated. And running Steam in off-line mode only shows some more that it's a redundant program. You have to start it, but you don't use it. Also, I saw the video on Youtube in wich the creative director explained some things about the new DTG Flight Sim (Flightsimcon 2016 DTG presentation) In this video he states that Steam is in fact really quite practical for users because they don't have to go through "difficult" installation procedures to install an add-on. Well in my opinion, this is a bit exaggerated. Most people who are serious simmers can fly ultra-realistic Boeings and Airbusses from A to B, all the while following realistic procedures as well. Hence, the installation of an add-on is for most simmers the easiest task they have to deal with when using a Flight Simulator. So don't worry about that, we'll manage. And I think the not-so-serious-simmers won't have any trouble with this also, since they most likely don't buy a lot of add-ons anyway. For the rest - just speaking about DTG FS - I have a good feeling about the direction it's going. From the same video as mentioned above - and also this forum - I have the feeling that there's a passionate team behind this product who really have the intention to make this THE next FS. Only too bad I'll most likely stick to FSX as my main sim for the next few years anyhow, since my almost 40 (officially purchased) add-ons won't be compatible with DTG FS because it's not backwards compatible. But like you said, this is unfortunately inevitable and I do understand this. Still, looking forward to the end result anyway! November 1, 20169 yr Moderator Robin, I'm not going to quote your post above, but would like to point out one fallacious statement... One does not have to "log onto Steam" in order to use the sim. One may choose to launch it in "off-line" mode. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

November 2, 20169 yr Martin, I appreciate you have confidential agreements and I do fully understand the financial realities of budgets vs paying for a room full of highly qualified young blokes who sit in front of PCs coding and drawing and having meetings every few hours..... P3D never interested me. Really, it's just developing within the constraints of ESP and the licencing always put me off too. Your relationship to Steam has serious benefits and there always has to be payback for that, I'm sure we all understand this too. So, I am looking forward to this new offering. I know it will evolve and your team will be coding improvements and ad-ons for years to come, abeit scaled down in resource from the current Dev. team. I am also hoping very much that the core SIm as released is able to make use of today's full on gaming machines and delivers enough of a bang on day one to generate the revenues to pay for the further improvements. I have ORBX, AS16, A full vectored. corrected Mash, variation and NAV aids and all the other bells and whistles and my FSX-SE looks and flies nicely. But it's no DCS...or X=Plane for that matter when it comes to dynamic flying qualities. VAS and other issues are ever present when it's loaded up and I understand and am resigned to the limitations. The same again without the VAS limits, with multi core processes within the main SIm would be a tremendous improvement alone. With a Base SIm incorporating some or all of those add-ins I'd be more than happy to buy, knowing it would only get better from there. Best of luck on the upcoming release and best wishes to the team working to get as much into the releaase build as they can! Mark Harris. Aged 54. P3D, & DCS mostly. November 5, 20169 yr Martin, This is directly related to Erich's recent post, and it's something I've been trying to get a firm answer on for awhile. Is the G1000 in the DA42 in Flight School going to be patched to practical functionality (ie that range issue) before the sim releases? The last time I put a ticket in about this, I received a decidedly ambiguous answer. I've been assuming all along that Flight School is a taster, so can I confidently assume this issue will be fixed when the full sim releases? Or as far as DTG is concerned, is Flight School now a dead letter? Tim
November 6, 20169 yr Hi Martin, When I first saw this thread, it immediately brought back memories of a very long and extensive forum thread posted here on Avsim in 2007. At that time, FSX had been released for a year, and ACES were -supposedly- working on the next version of FS. That thread, titled 'FS11 Wish List', includes hopes and suggestions for the next FS from various old-time members of the Avsim community, and also some posts from Phil Taylor as well, one of the original ACES team members. I remember reading every post and comment in there just hoping to catch a glimpse of what could be done with FS11. Unfortunately it was all put on hold and went to the storage room once ACES was closed. But hopefully, even now after 9 years I think most of what's in there still holds true to this day, and it is certainly worth taking a look in there just to see how the flight sim community has evolved, and also check whether those hopes and dreams came true in the last 9 years or not (spoiler:they did not!). So, take a trip down memory lane, and I promise that you would gather some very useful insights for Dovetail's upcoming FS:http://www.avsim.com/topic/63440-fs11-wish-list/page-1 Oh and thanks for keeping the community updated with the latest developments, I personally enjoyed DTGFSc and I believe it is definitely a step in the right direction. As long as Dovetail keeps the flight sim community feedback in mind (like ACES did), they will deliver a revolutionary successor to our beloved FSX. Looking forward to the next big thing. Kinan

Steam all the way for me, it's a simple one stop shop for easy of use, information, store, forums, updates, comunications, etc whatever you want. Why should you put up with a difficult installation, I don't care if you can fly 747 it's irrelavent. As for adverts you are taking the mick right - name another portal store which has less adverts than Steam, it's pretty good really. You don't have to go into steam you can load you app from a shortcut on the desktop. My Steam account is almost always logged in, but Steam lets you provide myriad of authentication controls if you are concerned. At the end of the day it appears you just don't have any need for the many features you get with the Steam platform, and if it's just you running flight simulation then I can understand your point but Steam is about a lot more than you are giving credit for. Isn't is great we all have different opinions.

Isn't is great we all have different opinions. I agree 100%. Steam is without a doubt the best content delivery platform ever devised for the PC. Hence the reason it is so wildly popular and accepted. 90% of new game titles are distributed through Steam and I think that the developers and customers are in agreement about its capabilities. Even look at how ORBX, FSFX, and others are moving towards a graphical content delivery and management tool. Its what most customers want. Let me guess.... you want 64bit. Josh Daniels-Johannson
November 7, 20169 yr There are disadvantages and advantages with steam (or uplay or similar) and individual physical distributions respectively. The disadvantage with steam is that you cannot choose which patches you want as well as that games can become unplayable should steam cease to exist. However it is a very convenient way to buy and patch games. I don't have to constantly monitor forums and websites to see if and when there is a new patch coming. WIth steam, you don't have to worry about scratching the disc or misplacing the booklet that usually have the cd-key on it. For me the pros with steam overweights the cons.
November 8, 20169 yr I agree, overall Steam is a great platform and never given me any problems.
