February 17, 20179 yr In the last P3DV3.4 version of P3D made for VR it will be interested to see if the problem is the same without ASCA with native clouds and without flyinside. I agree that would be very interesting to see if LM did something in regards to this in the latest version of P3D.
February 17, 20179 yr Highly recommended. Mine just arrived yesterday from Thailand (took about a 10 days) and I can already say I would never want to do without them. The Original rift foam used to break out my face something fierce, but these are beautiful, smooth, cool, and easily washable as well as working perfectly with the prescription VR lenses I purchased earlier from the same company. If you have the cash, I would say grab these right away! Thanks for the tip, looks great!
February 19, 20179 yr Very interesting thread. Thanks to all who provided feedback on their experiences with the Rift. I think, I will give it a try next week. In the end, I think it is a trade-off of immersion vs. resolution. And the outcome of that trade-off is really subjective. My only fear is that I cannot come back to 2D simming on monitors after trying it. We will see... [email protected] ∣ Asus ROG Strix B650E-E ∣ 64Gb@6000MT ∣ NVidia 5090 FE

Full article here: http://www.polygon.com/features/2017/2/15/14616192/gabe-newell-interview-vr. Even though there is no denying his brilliance, Mr Newell is getting pretty well known for his occasional anti-this-and-that rants. I remember his anti-playstation rant. (he called it a waste of time) And his latest anti-console rants (Doesn't like Playstation or Xbox either) And he hates windows. (Linux is the future) And this latest is after first partnering with HTC (Vive) then working with the oculus, and then the rumors of him coming out with his own HMD. And also, by the way, his company is working on three new VR games. Which is to say, he might be right in the shorter term, but I also take him with a grain of salt nowadays, especially knowing that he's a businessman with horses in the game and things of his own to promote. February 19, 20179 yr That's exactly what happened in my case  Yeah. I followed your case quite closely. Also in your own thread on your experiences with the Rift. What really convinced me to try it was that you came back to the Rift despite the fact you returned your initial headset. And the fact that it seems to work for you as a "serious" simmer with the NGX. I'm usually a person who can accept compromises if they are required to make the next step. So I expect to get over the poor resolution. My reluctance has more to do with all the investments I made into "2D technology" like my triple monitor setup and the VR Insight MCP which I will not be able to use with the Rift. Have you tried Leap Motion? [email protected] ∣ Asus ROG Strix B650E-E ∣ 64Gb@6000MT ∣ NVidia 5090 FE
February 19, 20179 yr I'm curious about the leap motion, too. In some videos it seems accurate, and some others, it seems iffy. And I find surprisingly few recent vids with good quality that showcase the use in a Flight Sim. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... February 19, 20179 yr Fact is I'm now on my third OR headset so I guess I'm not that popular at the store where I get them from only to bring them back a couple of weeks later  On the other hand I'm buying all my stuff from this place and have been for many years simply for this very reason that I know I can always bring a product back I'm not happy with for whatever reason. Plus they are always super friendly with a service minded spirit of true top class! So in the end I'm probably one of their best customers. As we all know this is an expensive hobby from a hardware perspective... This time though I'm pretty sure I'll keep the headset and learn to live with the current shortcomings such as the lower resolution because I know far too well by now how meaningless it feels going back pretending to fly on a 2D display after getting used to the sensation of actually be in the aircraft flying it in VR. This time I also bought the Touch controllers thinking they will help me having lots of fun not only in P3D but also with other titles. To me VR really is the most amazing thing that has happened within the PC arena for a very long time. Haven't tried leap motion mainly for two reasons. First I find it quite easy and intuitive to use the mouse just like in 2D and secondly because from what I've read leap motion doesn't work that well in its current form and especially in advanced payware aircraft such as the NGX which is the only aircraft I fly. As I said before, if possible try to get the headset from somewhere where you'll be able to bring it back should you want to. But then again...don't expect 2D flying to be as exciting anymore once you tried what it's like to actually fly your aircraft for real because that is really what it feels like. Looking forward to hear about your experience if/when you try it out
February 19, 20179 yr Thanks for the feedback, guys! I have one final question: Is it possible to easily uninstall the FlyInside software? I'm asking because my P3D setup is working exceptionally well and I really have some fear messing around with it. Especially, installing a software which messes with it deeply under the hood. I always rely on a freeware software called AOMEI Backupper that will allow me to make complete backups and very easily revert should I want to meaning I will end up with what my system looked like before I did a or b. I wouldn't want to be without this application because like you say in our hobby you don't want to mess up a system that is working good... However for FlyInside you will still be able to use P3D in 2D anytime you like simply by launching P3D rather than FlyInside (which will launch P3D automatically for you). Also from what I've seen FlyInside will use it's own Prepar3D.cfg file called prepar3d_FlyInside.cfg found in the same location where you have your normal Prepar3D.cfg file. I guess that means it doesn't touch your original file. Part from that I think the only files affected by using FlyInisde are your shaders cache which you can very easily refresh simply by deleting them allowing them to be rebuilt. These are the files I know FlyInside will touch but to make certain you could head over to the FlyInside forum and ask. Or even better use the software I'm using mentioned above (or any other software doing the same thing) to make a complete backup of your system before installing FlyInside. Doing this you don't need to worry about anything since you'll always be able to go back to the exact same state your system was in before you installed FlyInside.
