September 29, 20169 yr FS Recorder uses a version of Simconnect from FSX so if we already installed FSX it can work with P3D since P3D can work with all versions of FSX SimConnect. But if we've not previously installed FSX, then we would have installed the legacy simconnects from the \redist folder and found it would work without FSX installed. That's a good point. That would explain why FS Recorder was not working for those who had not previously installed FSX on their machines, as myself and other gentlemen in the forums. Do you know, by the way, if by installing those legacy simconnects we would not affect the apps that don't actually use them?. September 29, 20169 yr Commercial Member The code already exists in the sim and Windows, Simconnect.msi is mostly an interface definition. No matter how many simconnect versions you install, they don't add up to anything. If you get a simconnect error, disable the faulty app - do not uninstall simconnect. September 29, 20169 yr Hi, could anyone confirm if these are the steps needed to make FS Recorder to work under P3D v3.4.9: - Added the RecorderFSX.dll module to the Modules folder located into the main P3D directory. - Added the following entries to the dll.xml file located into the C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3 folder, according to the FS Recorder Manual (manual install): <Launch.Addon> <Name>FS Recorder Module</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>Modules\RecorderFSX.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon> - Execute the SimConnect.msi installer located in \redist\interface\FSX-SP2-XPACK\retail\lib folder. Please indicate any additional step needed if something is missing. Thanks in advance. That statement implying that if it works with FSX, then it must work with P3D is misleading. Sure, Simconnect will do it's thing, but there's a good explanation in the FS Recorder website forum explaining the fact that the author implemented FSX hacks to make it work as well in FSX as it does, and that those hacks don't work with P3D, so only some earlier less featured versions of the program function with P3D. He also said since P3D keeps changing, he doesn't want to have to keep updating code to work with it.
September 29, 20169 yr I cannot find my recorded file anywhere using FCR, I just chose the default option, but there is not an fcr file there, or anywhere. Aaron Tirrell

September 29, 20169 yr Commercial Member That statement implying that if it works with FSX, then it must work with P3D is misleading. I said it "can work with P3D" not "must work". Please read my comments fully. The comment was discussing why it worked for some and not for others, not the level of support that 1.331 offers for P3D. Everyone already knows that 1.331 came out for FSX. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
September 29, 20169 yr Commercial Member The reason 1.331 RecorderFSX.dll is sometimes used with P3D is that it works even though with limited functionality but the later version FSRecorder_FSX.dll does not. The reason it works for some and not others is because some had Simconnect installed correctly. Guys, if you're going to try out old FSX addons with P3D make sure to install all three legacy simconnect.msi files and also add the Modify permission to the Users group on the P3D folder, especially if they install into that folder and save settings and files there.
