When P3D moves to 64-bit any simulator will not survive.

Featured Replies

LR is not "anticipating" anyone... XP 10 which has been around for a long time, already is 64 bit for quite a while...

Thanx, I've been using XP10 for three years  ...of course LR is not trying to anticipate Dovetail on the 64bit matter but on other ones.

Hi! Folks,

I would like to know your opinions about the P3D 64bits.

IMHO I think that when Lockheed Martin moves P3D to 64 bits, any simulator will not survive, because today the main issue in P3D is OOM.

With 64 bits this issue will be solve. Today I have P3D v3.4, FSX-SE and X-Plane 10 and I admit always tried use all simulators but when the day came to the end I am using to P3D v3.4 in the most of the time.

Lets I know your opinions about this matter...

Thanks

It's everything. XP10.5 64 bit is wonderful. Crank it all up big time and no OOMs. Don't kid yourself. AeroFly2 is another example of 64 bit which is great. On top of the fact VR flying is magnificent. That uses up big video memory as well as FlyInside for P3D/FSX has shown.  It's time to leave an old address limitation in the past.

Never had an OOM, I like the way P3D looks much better than 64 bit X Plane.

Not for long.

Been hearing how great the next version of X plane is going to be for 15 years. Hasn't happened yet.

Everyone knows I fly both sims here a lot.  IF you have a powerful rig XP10, in its current state with addons is amazing.  XP11 looks even more amazing.  But I'm concerned my PC will die lol!

All I'm saying is: P3D going 64 bit is not going to suddenly crush all sims.  Many addons will fail to work if I had to make an educated guess.

Never I have suffered from OOMs.. Lucky me.

Just wondering why people with almost identical scenery/aircraft/settings experience a different outcome :

One flying without issues, the other suffering from OOMs..

Avoiding 64 bits is like avoiding the implementation of HD TV because many old TV's would stop working. The world has to move forward. It is just normal that textures become bigger and bigger as they try to recreate the world more and more accurately. Should the developers face the future or face the past? Obviously the future. Addons will stop working only for developers that don't embrace the future, and those will certainly loose terrain. Every company has to adapt to survive. Those who don't will eventually die. So compatibility will never be an issue for more than a year and if everything is done right, coordination will take place to discuss the standards and the best options for a 64 bit environment, meaning that by the time 64 bit is avalable, most addons will be compatible.

Edit: Hopefully the 64 bit addons will have an upgrade option at a lower price for those that have the 32bit version.

Edit: Other sims will certainly survive.

Here's what XPlane simmers can look forward to:

XP 11 (Better sounds, improved planes & aircraft reflections, a G1000, and new UI)

A GTN 750 (Payware)

SkyMaxx Pro V4 (Payware)

Some amazing payware airplanes

With a little love from devs, we should have better weather depiction, ATC, AI, and seasonal textures. This IMO will make XP 11 the best sim platform ever created.

When is that expected to happen?

I'm sure you will find the answer on the X-Plane forums, & not here on the P3D ones! :hi:

:Praying: Can we keep this Prepar3d forum for Prepar3d discussions, & not X-Plane? They do have their own.

OP's hypothesis makes it almost necessary to include other sims in discussion,.

I know that     , but since some folks seem compelled  to post X plane related posts on this forum , there posts  open their chosen  topic up for a response.

Ok.

I'm here to offer my counter opinion to the silly topic title.
