October 29, 20169 yr Looks good to me. A facelift to otherwise drab looking default that ruins the arrival. I dont see this as being a VAS issue. We fly into payware airports with a whole lot more going on with a good sllce of the VAS pie, so defaults with some upgraded textures will not be a big issue. Cant see it being more than a payware. Plus as much as we would like to, we cant just go out buying every payware airport we would like, unless your money stream is endless. This is a good happy medium. October 29, 20169 yr Commercial Member Hi Francesco, In regards to your last statement, the simulator shares textures for different areas on buildings worldwide. What you would think would be applied across the board is not so. We have done a great job of categorizing and putting this all into perspective, however, since we're unable to test all 24,000 airports it's going to be an ongoing development process to tighten down this extensive web. However, this all kind of works in our favor because you get such a diversity now. At any rate, even as we wrap up the initial RTM version for release, our team is furthering the experience with new tech, content, models etc., which of course will be free to our customers. The program will have an automatic update process which checks your current version agains the newest and will advise you when ready to update. To add to my above statement, the download for the program will be approximately 3GB, containing over 6GB in content. If it is truly like that then I'm sold. Some sort of diversity, when I can see two different terminal textures when flying for example Zurich - Vienna or Munich - Barcelona, is really a groundbreaking feature, and I will personally ditch all my payware airports. I'm using Zinertek HD Airport Graphics at the moment, and I'm seeing only TWO different terminal textures across Europe, so I migrated to payware complex airports simply because I was pretty bored by looking at same two textures all over again. October 29, 20169 yr Commercial Member I'm eagerly awaiting release of this product. I have a similar product which IMHO it fell a little short of providing a payware feel for default airports - certainly was a good product, and increased the quality of default airports, but as I said it just fell a little short. Here we have a team that has produced the highest quality flight sim textures (and likely some of the toughest to do) with a great many years of experience doing so, and they turned there attention to an area that we all desperately needed them to. I use the term "game changer" very sparingly, and I think Airports HD will be a Game Changer even for people like me who have 60+ payware airports. It's particularly important for people who want to fly in/out of an airport they don't visit very often thus paying about $30 (USD) isn't really justifiable. In fact this would be particularly important for those who us who participate in VATSIM/IVAO events! With these incredible textures, I bet we'll see even more people building AFCADs to approximate the layout of default airports! Thank you Reed, Tim, and the entire REX Team! October 29, 20169 yr Hi Reed, Are there any plans to correct the taxiway lines at default airports to a proper circular arc than just broken segments. They do not look good.In FSX there was a product which would make such taxiway arcs smooth. Is there anything planned on to correct this? The product looks good..And as always I will buy your product. Pankaj Thanks,Pankaj Dekate
October 29, 20169 yr Commercial Member Are there any plans to correct the taxiway lines at default airports Hello Pankaj, I know what you're talking about (I'll grab and add a screen shot to this thread if I see one). I might be wrong, but I've always thought this was due to how the AFCAD was created by Microsoft. If I'm not mistaken, later versions of Airport Design Editor (ADE) does curved lines better than what we see in original default airports. That said, I wasn't aware that Airports HD changes the taxiway/runway textures (it's great if it does though). I know that REX Essentials and REX4 (Texture Direct) provides an option to change (and vastly improve) runway and taxiway textures (including markings and signs). October 29, 20169 yr Author You know, A product that I would love to have? Custom Runway textures. when I am approaching to land, All I am focusing on is the runway. I wish I could go to the high res Google maps and cut the HD textures out and place it on the airport on my sim. Default butt ugly buildings with high resolution runway and taxiway textures.... is fine by me I would pay over $300 for a product that would help me do this,. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 29, 20169 yr Commercial Member Custom Runway textures Hello Manny, REX Essentials and Texture Direct (REX4) will both do that. They give you quite a few different options as well. October 29, 20169 yr All current "HD Texture" products have the problem that as nice as their textures may look, their texture replacement affects all airports in FSX/P3D within the same category. Basically, if you select old and worn runway textures, you will see them on all airports within the same category. This is quite repetitive and unrealistic. I hope there will be a product in the future that replaces airport textures "en route", so that you have the most possible variety. Even better would be to have a "database" for most airports that stores information like runway condition, etc. If you file a flight plan from airport X to airport Y, the program would inject textures of the destination airport according to the information from the database.
October 30, 20169 yr Hopefully not a big vas hit on this as I am excited to see an upgrade for default airports. I fly out of KBNA Nashville a good bit flying for Southwest Airlines and there just isn't any good payware for it yet. What may the price be on this? Kevin Humphryes
October 30, 20169 yr This looks great, I have been looking forward to it since it was announced earlier in the summer. Although I have many payware airports, I do fly into many defaults as I can't see the point of only flying between the same payware airports. I see that there are runway textures? Will these take the place of the runway textures available in REX 4Texture Direct? To what extent does this product replace the different airport textures already available in TD? Looking forward to the release! Eric i9-12900k, RTX 5070ti OC, 32GB ddr5 5600 RAM, 2TB 980 Pro SSD, Titan 240RX AIO, Samsung CRG90 49", Win 11

Search for it on SimMarket. I think SXAD makes it. October 30, 20169 yr If there was a button on this software to add static planes to the airports I think it would fly off the shelf. Set traffic to 10% to see a couple of AI in-flight but arriving you have a nice amount of aircraft to see all the way to the gate. Thats what I like about Orbx airports free ftx global airports. October 30, 20169 yr Commercial Member Hello Maurice, That would require one to actually edit the AFCAD itself, or use an object placement tool. In the case or ORBX, they created a new AFCAD and populated it with buildings, aircraft and other objects. There is a rather incredible free product called Airport Design Editor (ADE, current version 1.70 I believe) that is used to create and modify AFCADs, and even if one isn't going to work on AFCADs just playing with it really explains a lot about how airports are created. Rather than creating the 25,000 odd default airports in FSX/P3D, the Airports HD product replaces existing default textures with REX custom textures. Hope this helps! Best wishes to you. I see that Flight 1 UT 2 is workong on their program again. I hope they have a similar functionality I do not care for FPS stealing en route AI aircraft.. I want to see realistic aircraft at airports and preparing for departure. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
