Grab your X-Plane 11 beta, guys!

how are you guys using any 3rd party planes in x-plane 11? none of mine work, FF 757,767 ect... Also how are you upgrading the navigraph in xp 11, when i use the navigraph manager, xp 11 fails too start. i have 10 and 11 running side by side until the official release.

AFAIK you cannot yet upgrade the database. The Navigraph data is for XP10 and it's format does not work with XP11. This should be fixed soon though by Navigraph.

My Carenado GA planes work fine in XP11. In terms of heavies I only have the FF Airbus 350. It loads but the view angle is strange. Didn't try the latest v 1.31 of it yet though.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I'm getting large, multiple translucent circles or cones in my field of view when flying at night or dawn/dusk.  They go away after about 10 seconds but reappear if I turn to the left or right.

Edit: Must have been a temporary bug. I reloaded and all is good.

The banding still is a bug...dusk, dawn...night...around the sun...moon...a bug. They know about it...and will be squashed... :)

  • GUI - severe discussion. I also miss finetuning, but the majority of users is unable to sensibly set their options and then gets themselves into trouble. Compare the rendering options with MOST modern games - they give you a "low - med - high" and thats it.

No, that simply isn't true. I know Laminar is a Mac-based shop, but hasn't anyone there taken a close look at any of the recent AAA games for the PC, especially FPS and action/RPG types? And I mean on a PC, not an Xbox or Playstation. Most of these modern AAA game titles in their PC versions include advanced graphics options, often placed on a secondary tab behind the basic settings. This "problem" has been solved years ago.

A newbie coming from the world of PC games will be able to handle more granular rendering settings. Those of us who have flown X-Plane for a long time absolutely need more granular settings, to find a personalized world view balanced against frame rate.

I'm also surprised to see extended DSF on by default! As Tony says, that's going to kill the ability use UHD scenery for many users. Put back the check box, so people can use UHD scenery until they can get around to a RAM upgrade.

I concur, coming from p3d w orbx global,LC and vector with active sky 16. now, i will say i actually prefer flying in this sim though, the cessna is spot on. the night lighting is stunning and fps around big airports with high levels of detail still holds at a steady and smooth 30fps. I simply could never do that in p3d.

Gave the demo a spin and I'd have to agree. The daytime environment still leaves a lot to be desired, but night lighting and environment looks fantastic (never noticed the fast moving emergency vehicles before...).

first I have to figure out if there are any GA airports that have scenery because it totally sucks to take off from an empty field.

On the menu on the left side of the page check "Runway" and select "Only 3d".  I've done a bunch of the ones in Ontario, Canada. These are gateway submitted airports.

BTW my plan on the 'clutter' settings is: deer and balloons stay off until we can put them only where they belong.  Birds stay on and I talk to Austin about whether they're a little bit too Alfred Hitchcock.

If birds stay on, I hope they're just cosmetic and don't cause damage. That's going to make it impossible to use this sim in FSEconomy where you actually have to complete every flight.

Or maybe they can still be disabled by editing the config file? That still seems like a step backwards from having full menus with checkboxes.

Although the general weather engine is the same as in X-Plane 10, there is more control on the visuals with datarefs. Except for convective clouds/thunderstorms, apparently it can do a very good job with stratiform clouds.

As Ben Supnik said, the clouds are still work in progress, so these are just "spare time" personal experiments i'm doing, it does not make to make them public now since the default clouds will probably be changed in the next weeks.

I've seen boats I believe, but not balloons. Here are some options in preferences:

So you can turn the boats and deer off, but only by editing Output/Preferences/X-Plane.prf and setting values to 0 or 1.

Is there any for cloud density? I feel the default is set to 100%. I couldn't even run that in XP10.

Thanks. But nothing new or useful there for where I want to fly. Seems I am stuck with empty airports unless I start flying somewhere else. Maybe I should only use XP for short scenic flights around those good looking big airports (of which I would like to have a list btw) and for night flying (if I can find a way to load flightplans). Too much is missing and too much I can't get done (probably mainly because I am completely new to XP  ).

Are these just default clouds with modified datarefs? Looks like a big improvement to me. How do your changes affect performance?

Is there a way tp move the view up when using TrackIR. The main part of my screen is filled with the panel: I'd like to sit higher by default. Is that possible?

Modified textures and modified datarefs. On my pc performance is much better than default due to textures being .dds, and due to the changed datarefs. I'll wait some weeks before going forward though, as Ben said default clouds will probably be changed in the next betas.

Because the Gateway 3D airports are user-created, it's just luck of the draw whether you get many of those in your home area. Popular areas for scenic flying are getting good coverage.

I'm lucky in that I live in a scenic area of the PNW not far from Seattle, so this area is crammed with Gateway airports, including many tiny GA ones. There are lots of small Gateway GA airports up around Vancouver Island and further up the BC coast, a very popular area for scenic flights. Many areas in the UK and Europe are getting attention. New Zealand and Australia are looking pretty good, and so on.

So if you want to focus more on GA flying and smaller airports, it's just a question of picking a popular area where people are submitting lots of airports to the gateway.

Hi!

I just downloaded the XP11 demo!

After a very short first flight, I can say that I like what I see! ;-)

But most definitely, I'll have to wait until I got my new graphics card until I explore it any further!
