Grab your X-Plane 11 beta, guys!

I look at it this way. 60 dollars for a flight sim that will have years of updates and only get better. I have paid more than that for some add ons that turn out to be garbage with only mediocre updates. We need to put it in perspective :)

60 USD convert to INR :) but yes if you look at the cost of investment for a good simulator then XPlane does take the top place.

I really like XP11 and I am happy that we can try the beta. However, without a decent weather engine the fun is short. SMP 3 does work but the clouds look cheesy. Default clouds are horrible. So it's either SMP 4 or XEnviro, whichever comes first. Or both.

XEnviro also looks quite nice in X-Plane 11:

You know, it does look nice, but after seeing one of their developers behaving absurdly unprofessional on another public forum over SMP, I think I'll give it a miss

I agree.

deer's running all over the runways ha ha ha and the cherry on the cake that's in urban areas and direct next to the coast, birds hovering like choppers over the runways and shoot off like arrows, its a beta what the heck

I have the 32 bit version of it , but talking bad about competitors is never good

it's fun when the deer is seen in the areas i fly , well i did crush a few of them on take off in XP10 :)

Clouds suck big time indeed, even those addons look bad. One more reason to use XP as a night sim for now. ;)

But er... I discovered XP doesn't have a flight planner? Not even a basic one? I already saw I can use Plan-G for XP: does it work with XP11 already? But what do you use for airliners? I have been using ProATC with P3D lately and love how it assigns SIDS and STARs... seem I have to figure that all out by myself in XP...?

Two more questions:

1. what is the best place to find freeware airports?

2. does XP contain checklist for for instance the 737? I have flown the Airbus and have no clue what to do in the 737...

I like to play around with XP for now but I wonder how soon, if ever, it will become my main sim. Too much is missing right now. Pretty lights at night only keeps you satisfied for a short while... ;)

It's been like this since XP9, someone on the org complained about seagulls taking his aircraft down in the middle of the Australian desert. At the moment the only way to turn them off is to edit the Output/Preferences files.

For freeware airports, x-plane.org has a huge collection, but you will have to filter through some of the bad/old stuff (e.g. 10 different versions of the same airport with one of them being really good) to find the good stuff and be prepared for library hell. There are some hidden gems on there (e.g. MisterX's stuff), but you will have to read the reviews and look at the screenshots.

I leave the deer on for the comedic value (They appear without fail). I was also entertained by the AI yesterday whilst taxiing (A 747 was spinning round and round on the grass belching out smoke). Again, both have been bugs since as long as I can remember and I'm mostly oblivious to them.

Is there an option to disable them?

TBH when i got XP10 i found it simply amazing not knowing  much about the weather or much about the flight dynamics issues  and was also highly impressed with the HD + UHD Mesh and W2XP , but over time things like the torque bug and the weather visuals started coming up and i was getting put off by XPlane , but there are things that no other sim gives me. Just give it time and you will start appreciating the sim.

I only use two sims DCS / XP and sometimes FG.

Not in the XP11 UI, no, you have to edit the preference file by hand. In XP10 you can switch them off

There was a .png @org for the deer but i am not sure if it would work with XP11.

Yep it would, but that just makes them invisible (they are still there).

I was going to move my environment completly to XPlane 11 as who knows how long before P3d Goes 64 bit and how much it will cost to restock our environment.

I am now putting that on hold.  Yes the GuI is slick and will suit many but I have to agree with what always was said, that the old display gave the options people wanted.  If you remove those there is no reason for me changing,  Yes the graphics are nice but not without control.

and be prepared for library hell

Yeah... I see...

One of the things I liked about P3D was that I could forget about tweaking. Or better said: I could forget about doing things that have nothing to do with the actual flying. I am discovering now that XP takes (or seems to take) a lot more work 'on the side' to improve it. For a newbie like me it seems to be a bit too much work. And even then, after all that work, things still leave a lot to be desired (so it seems now). There is a lot to like about XP but also a lot to dislike. Hm... maybe I should forget about making XP look nice and simply do some flying. So I am off to Plan-G now to see how I can create plans for XP and if I can import them somehow. But no, first I have to figure out if there are any GA airports that have scenery because it totally sucks to take off from an empty field... Or maybe I should just take off from one of those too-big-for-a-Cessna airports that do have scenery... Or fly the 737 which I can't handle right now... Or... take the Airbus for a spin in P3D... Choices...
