ORBX XP11: What are your predictions?

Featured Replies

Will a PFC yoke and PFC throttle unit work with XP11 beta? If so, I might uncork a bottle of wine, install XP11 and try out the 737.

Yes, the PFC stuff works in XPL. PFC is made for XPL.

Yep - my PFC Console and rudders all working fine. I have to use XPUIPC for the console. The rudders pedals are not being found but they are working just fine.

My prediction is what ErichB said a few posts back. I think Orbx will do a hybrid system that uses OSM data for cities and towns and then their own pseudo real seasonal textures (no city or town textures - just ground) underneath it all. They're really good at autogen and autogen placement so I think they could add quite a lot.

I'm having a hard time finding one aircraft close to the Aerosoft airbus - PMDG Boeing except for maybe IXEG 737 - so not sure thats entirely true - off scenery topic so take with a grain of salt

The JAR airbuses are about the same level of depth as the AS ones. The FF (757/767) birds are superior to AS and closer to PMDG as far as systems simulation go. In fact I would say the FF birds are superior to IXEG in that respect.

Thank you not a 757 fan - maybe a 767 - when they have the XP11  upgrades including PBR  I will revisit - wont buy anything that does not have PBR goodies - I know IXEG will at some point thats why I bought that now

Flight Factor has confirmed that the 757v2 purchase includes those updates too.

Flightfactor has the 767 as well and I think it's actually the superior plane to their 757.

JV and OrbX would be another drop in the ocean.

Can you point me to this "other ocean"?  Orbx have 133 payware products, 32 freeware products.  I'm not aware of any Xplane developer or development group that can match this (not even close) ... can you point me to one?  It would be good for the growth of the Xplane user base to embrace Orbx ... even for other commercial members because it will increase user purchase potential regardless.

JV's comments were/are accurate at the time, sorry, but that's the harsh reality.  LR stepped up their game which has now raised interest in major 3rd party developers, this is a good thing ... living the past, not a good thing.

Cheers, Rob.

Love to have ORBX onboard with XP11. They could work their magic for seasonal textures as well which are sorely needed in the XP platform. I have a number of their products with P3D which unfortunately increase the VAS issues on that  platform. So here's  to begging...

 Ryzen 7 5800x, 64gb, 7900XTX 24gb

The ORBX team dismissed XP a couple of years ago, and I'm glad they changed their minds.  I fly P3D most of the time because of the PMDG jets and the ORBX packages.  But P3D is still susceptible to CTDs and OOMs.  When P3D and eventually DTG unveil their future 64-bit products, I'll be able to compare them with XP-11.  I really enjoy XP-11 because it rarely crashes and I don't see myself goign anywhere alese once PMDG converts their jets over and ORBX releases its sceneries.  But I also love competition and can't wait to test all my choices.

This observation - about XP10 - might be correct if you only looked at it in a static (point in time) way. But this completely overlooked, that even though X-Plane grew and evolve at a slow peace, it did grow and evolve! .... And even though at that point it was lacking a lot, and many users felt that development was too slow or going in the bad direction etc. etc.  .... now with XP11 we are at a point which - contrary to those observations - is much more pleasing. But its not as if XP11 fell out of the blue sky ... its all that - often hidden, slow and patient - work which Laminar invested (and even against a lot of unhappy customers) and now can reap the fruits ... Like their very resource intensive switch to the 64bit world. Which brought absolutely no, immediately visible eye candy ... but did lay the the fundament for a long term development. Or internal restructuring of their complete OpenGL code (to improve performance, make things like PBR possible etc.) ... all this is not very "popular" work, as it brings no direct gain ... but is important for the product as a whole. ... And no, it could go faster! The reasons are very simple resource (and yes, plain monetary) constraints which a small company like Laminar needs to face and deal with ... but nevertheless, they obviously did choose the right path (by not going for short term gains without investing in the future).

Now, if everybody would have followed ORBXs way of thinking at that time (in short: "x-plane is dead") ... and would not have supported X-Plane (and developed for it) ... then possibly - again - we would not have an XP11.

And finally, I dare say, that even though many could not see the value of XP10 immediately (as not everything was  shiny with the base sim) ... with the right add-ons, it was already far better than outsiders could imagine (but could have enjoyed with a little investment of time).

Nevertheless, its good that in the end now - with all that past evolution (which many did not want to or could not see / understand) - we have arrived at XP11 which finally (for all the above reasons) can get a much better recognition and maybe even become a viable alternative for a much wider user base

Nice website and dont know much about your mesh - is it better than new XP11 mesh or thinking you will say there is mesh that is not provided in XP11 that can be had at your website ? just not sure - new to all this - thank you

I even went for a virtual drive around and it looks very authentic

Tony - I'm still fairly new to X Plane but I'd love to take a virtual drive around the scenery. How do I go about doing that? Does Austin have a car available somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

All basic information about HD Mesh Scenery v3 and XP11 is in a pinned thread in this forum (easy to find)
