December 28, 20169 yr Amazing that for years Xplane users wanted more 3rd party Devs and high quality addons. Now that some are considering developing for Xplane the users push back against them. Why ? this is just orbx, everybody was happy when pmdg came. It will die down of course and at the end of the day, avsim is not representative of the x-plane userbase. They will be successful wether or not some people are disgruntled
December 28, 20169 yr Well, The Orbx for XP11 topic has certainly generated a lot of comments/interest. If it does, indeed, come to X-Plane I look forward to see how it looks, performs and is priced. Go X-Plane! The future looks really good. Jim Morgan

Why ? It's not everyone, stop it with these blanket statements. Also their position is a bit more nuanced than you make it out to be. 4790K @4.9GHz, 32GB DDR3, 1080Ti, W10-64bit
December 28, 20169 yr This is a smart business move and most definately a great way to force in your place in the sim but i can understand that some people that made this sim great and defended it against everything all these years are not always happy. The sim wasn't always that great. Some just thought it was. Until last year, X-plane was never on my list as serious competition to FSX with addons (including Orbx). Finally after all these years of X-Plane demos, owning versions 8,9,& 10...........................I started seeing that the flight models finally had some issues resolved, and that the scenery was hitting the mark. Mr. X's Junaeu, Alaska beat out my Orbx version in my view. X-Plane was never the elitist sim it's been promoted as, for the last 15 years or so. It just wanted to be. Orbx isn't forcing their way into a sim. X-Plane could have used them all along.
December 28, 20169 yr The sim wasn't always that great. Some just thought it was. Ah the old "my opinion is gospel" post, AVSIM never changes. 4790K @4.9GHz, 32GB DDR3, 1080Ti, W10-64bit
December 28, 20169 yr Ah the old "my opinion is gospel" post, AVSIM never changes. I'm never wrong.......
December 28, 20169 yr It's not everyone, stop it with these blanket statements. Where did I say it was everyone ?
December 28, 20169 yr Where did I say it was everyone ? "the users" i think that is pretty much everyone

Orbx isn't forcing their way into a sim. X-Plane could have used them all along. i never said it was great, but it always had potential. It is all down to what precieve to be the most important issues of flight sim. For me x-plane has been superior since the start of xp10 because of what i preceive the most important issues for me. For others, different things are important. I for the life of me don't care about the pages of pages of discussions about minor flight model changes or torque bugs, its just not interesting for me. Now i can say your priorities are crap and mine are more important or i can say ok this is not for me something else is more suitable. And they couldnt have used them, JV judged x-plane, which is perfectly fine, but then used his public position in this small community to pass his predictions about the future of x-plane. This did hurt because like it or not, OrbX does have an impact in the flightsim community. You can't blame people to hold a grudge, especially since he now posts " we help the sim when it needs us the most" Regarding the forcing onto the sim, we will see about that if they agressivley market the x.plane upgrade with 75% discount (they did say 50% probably more)
December 28, 20169 yr Moderator we help the sim when it needs us the most He wrote that? . That just smells of pure arrogance to me, the sim has and will survive without them.
December 28, 20169 yr He wrote that? . That just smells of pure arrogance to me, the sim has and will survive without them. That doesn't smell like it, that IS arrogance. But well, as long as they don't port their crappy FSX bits over to XP but create something really good I don't care if he is arrogant or not. If I only buy things from people I like I'd be dead by now.
December 28, 20169 yr He wrote that? . That just smells of pure arrogance to me, the sim has and will survive without them. Reminds me of the story of the Scorpion and the Crocodile. If it is really true that he wrote that, it's kind of "I despise you and your sim, but hey ... I want your money". I for myself, am using XP very well since 2006 (around XP 8.50) and never needed ORBX to have lots of fun. The dark horse. A big $ R&D commitment. Orbx quality where it's needed the most so things finally get to truly shine. Oh, and it's 64-bit." It´s arrogant but it´s not tottaly wrong. Orbx can improve a lot X-plane scenery. They have the money to do it and Laminar has the right platform I guess. Imagine that: More regional buildings, better texture trees, parks, plazas, POI´s etc. We simmers should support those kind of iniciatives. JV said they might cancel some of those projects, if they feel it won´t work. So, instead of complaining about his arrogance, you should move on and see what orbx can bring to X-plane. I really think they can improve a lot the scenery and turn X-plane into the most immersive simulator. 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

December 28, 20169 yr Moderator If you want to quote him, you have to do it right. What he said: Read the post again, it wasn't me who quoted him. I really think they can improve a lot the scenery and turn X-plane into the most immersive simulator. Perhaps, but X-Plane already is for me more immersive that FSX/P3D with ORBX regions, however they have a very talented group of airport developers (many now have gone their separate ways), and X-Plane really does need more quality small GA airports. Since it seems their first project will be a port of Meigs Field to X-Plane and Aerofly, we will see how it goes. I only hope the statement of "orbx quality" holds true and it isn't just an FS2XPLANE convert like lots of other ported FSX-XPlane airports.
