January 6, 20179 yr And here I sit with my Sandy i2500K chugging along at 4.7. Is there any way to quantify what kind of performance increase I would see with this new chip at the same clock speed of 4.7? (note that I have a GTX970 card) Not enough....is how I would define it  Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
January 6, 20179 yr Thanks for the feedback on possible i2500K upgrade. I am not really in a rush but will probably pull the trigger later on this year. Mark CYYZ

January 6, 20179 yr I am wondering if going from a i7 5930K @ 4.5 to 7700 would be worth it? I haven't seen any comparisons yet. Nick Sciortino
January 6, 20179 yr Author Not enough....is how I would define it  37% greater single core performance and 93% faster multi-core. At stock of course. http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-2500K/3647vs619 Then we have all the other advantages like M.2, U.2, NFC, USB 3.1 faster higher density DDR4, hyperdrive, zero point energy extraction from the quantum vacuum, hyperspace field coils etc.
January 6, 20179 yr >>>>Just ordered 7700k, Asus Z270E and 32GB ram from Newegg as I listed above. Yang, I plan to get soon a similiar system as yours. Could you please report your findings as far as performance is concerned when you get you new system running? Thanks! Sure. It will take a week or two before I can report anything. Putting the parts together is easy, rebuilding all the software is going to be the biggest headache.. Also thanks to Martin for the heads up. I'll certain update the BIOS as soon as the system is up and running. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
January 6, 20179 yr ...hyperdrive, zero point energy extraction from the quantum vacuum, hyperspace field coils etc. Ooh, ooh, that sold me right there! On my way to Newegg to order parts for a new computer! Greg
January 6, 20179 yr I'm looking forward to the "zero point energy extraction from the quantum vacuum, hyperspace field coils" by my 7700K.. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
January 6, 20179 yr Author I'm looking forward to the "zero point energy extraction from the quantum vacuum, hyperspace field coils" by my 7700K.. In regard to zero point energy, I would advice you to NOT enable his feature in the BIOS. With great power comes great responsibility and I don't think you could handle it. Besides, it would attract attention from extraterrestrials that are scanning the planet.

January 7, 20179 yr Not enough....is how I would define it  Is it an upgrade you regret? I've read positive things in this forum on upgrading from a i5 2500k (to sky lake when those posts were made), I'm interested to hear more on your experiences before I drop CDN$1,000 to upgrade my 2500k, I have it at 4.5ghz stable. January 7, 20179 yr No, I do not have a Skylake CPU. My experience is having to purchase a new PC in July 2014 when my i5 2500k @ 4.3Ghz/1GB GeForce GTX 560Ti/8GB DDR3-1600 RAM powered system suffered a double motherboard/GPU failure. I replaced it with an i5 4690k Haswell @ 4.6Ghz/2GB GeForce GTX 770/16GB Hyper X Fury DDR3-1600 RAM powered PC, and whilst I am happy with it in terms of performance in P3D (and other software), I get the distinct feeling that this was nowhere near as dramatic as I would have wanted after a time span of three years (I purchased the i5 2500k PC in September 2011). The performance improvement upgrading from an i5 2500k to an i7 6700k Skylake system will probably be a bit better than I think, but I bet it is nowhere near as impressive as it should be with such a large timespan between the release of both CPUs. It is getting to the point where I am praying that my latest PC avoids a catastrophic failure in the next couple of years, because having to fork out at least a grand for a replacement does not feel like the same value for money as it did in the past. On the other hand, I would love to be proved wrong  Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
January 7, 20179 yr Take these results with a grain of salt. Until we start getting numbers from consumer samples these numbers are pretty meaningless. 4790K @4.9GHz, 32GB DDR3, 1080Ti, W10-64bit
