The only thing that is holding me back from a entire migration to V4 is the lack of compatible IVAO MTL AI aicrafts. I exclusively fly online, and it is my assumption that it will take many more months until IVAO provides non-FS9 models for their MTL library.

I have never been one to give in to peer pressure, and I do not intend to start now!

Maybe your tiny system is not up to it Chris ? Hmm Possibly your liccle graphics card will melt under the pressure of beautifulness ?

Hmm Oh dear Christopher, I hope your not under the Thumb,  Hmm maybe your allowance doesn't stretch this far ?

Come on Chris, Jump in,  be a real simmer............

You are correct that my 2GB GTX 770 GPU is one reason why I have not yet upgraded to version 4, and this is why I may well not take the plunge until I purchase a completely new PC. When I do decide to upgrade, I want ALL of my current addons to work with it, and I also want the power to do it full justice. I do not intend to run v4 with the sliders at Medium settings

I thought you had a 4 gig card hence my silly over the top post above.  Yes running a nice looking v4 with Add On's would be a stretch with 2 gigs.

I am running with 6 gig's and can get up to nearly 4 gigs of usage quite quickly

I would also like to make some updates to my own system in time with quicker ram and so on

I have the same GPU,and where I live, I have no chance to even afford one. Usually 2.5X the price paid in the US.

But I can say, I'm having a happy time with V4. Obviously it is a 20FPS ordeal(Complex addons will go to the teens like TFDi 717), with most stuff at medium and few at high, but it is doable.

It's the same old story since the early days of FS9 - FSX. You must adapt the sim to your hardware. There is no other way. Most of the time, it's a compromise but you can still have a very rewarding experience. The eye candy is nice, but if it induces stutters........

I always maintain that if you can find the right balance to get your sim running SMOOTH on your system - you won't be disappointed.

Especially with V4.

When P3D V2 was released more than 66% went straight to P3D V3

With the release of P3D V4 barely 66% went straight to P3D V4.

V4 is the first Prepar3d I have used. So far I'm really impressed.

So that sounds like V4 is not hitting your VRAM very much relative to what I've read here from Rob I think it was.  What's the maximum VRAM you've seen used on your 6Gb card any time while running V4 if you will?  And what LOD setting have you configured, or other aspects of demand on VRAM?  Monitor?

I have an legacy GTX Titan 6Gb but V3 hits it pretty hard NOT in terms of VRAM at all, but in terms of pushing GPU-dependent sliders, so I'm going to upgrade to 1080Ti or what have you.

Can I change my vote? :-)

My P3D v3.4 stopped working for some reason (initial boot-up screen, then CTD). Since I was planning to go to v4 at some point anyway, I bought it and installed it on Friday night.

Wow. Even with my now somewhat ancient system (i7-2700K, nVidia 760), I'm not going back to v3.4: similar but better framerates, and a much smoother experience).

I've been wondering how it would run on my system which is similar to yours. I have a 2700K at 3.85ghz, 8 GB Ram at 2133mhz and a 2GB GTX 670. If I set it to levels equal to FSX, i.e. autogen, 4.5 LOD draw distance, 1024 textures, etc., I'd be curious to see if it ran the same or better than my current FSX setup.

The only reason I've not gotten into P3D yet is that I just want it for the cloud shadows and have a hard time going through a complete hardware update to do so.

I purchased P3d v1.4 yrs ago,and have without fail updated it on the day a new version was released,I have been a supporter of P3d it seems like from the start of time, driven by the memory of all that endless tweaking and those constant beautiful BSOD that visited me far to often in FSX.P3d v4 the best yet,not a tweak in sight and never a BSOD,just imagine what it will be like in a couple of yrs time

My system is quite similar. With equivalent settings, I perceive v4 to be smoother than FSX or v3.4. I currently have my framerates set to 20 fps, with vsync on and triple buffering. I have autogen set on. I've turned dynamic vegetation (is that the correct name?) set off.  Can't remember my other settings right now, as I'm at Starbucks enjoying a cold brew coffee. :-)

Regardless, as I mentioned, that's my perception, on my computer. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. YMMV.

Are you runnning any of the PMDG planes or Addon airports with it getting those FPS? With FSX and any of the PMDG planes I can usually muster 25 to 30 FPS at my heaviest addon hubs like EGLL, KJFK, etc with AI and is smooth, plus I never OOM, which makes switching even harder.

Its clear that P3D will most likely be the way to go moving forward and addon devs seem more excited about this platform than any others in recent memory. I'll have to make the move at some point :-)

I haven't bought the 747 or 777 for v4 yet. I have the NGX for v3.4, so I'm waiting for it to be made compatible with v4.

I have the TFDI 717 for v4 and installed it last night. I flew from CYVR (my home airport) to KSEA. I don't have any addon airports in v4 at present. Frames were really good at CYVR (17 to 19 fps with the framerate capped at 20), but approaching KSEA, things got choppy, so I had to turn down a number of graphics settings (2048 textures -> 1024, autogen dense  -> normal, etc.).

I had good framerates after that, and the sim still looked good. Lesson learned, though: I need to have two configs, one for GA aircraft, one for tubeliners.
