Dynamic Lighting Performance & 4.1

Jeez, Rob, why you throw such unrealistic numbers in here, even if listed as speculation?

Those aren't "my" numbers?  Those numbers come from those lucky end users that have DGX-1 computers using the V100 today.  Those DGX-1 users are claiming 132% faster, which is 2.3x.  It already IS the case real world.

I agree, there is NO pressure on nVidia to release the V100 since they have no competition on their existing 1080Ti so nVidia will continue on squeeze as much as they can out of the "professional" arena with the DGX-1 computers.  But the V100 will eventually be put into consumer grade products ... drivers are listing it at 2000 series, so speculation was 2080 and 2080Ti.

Cheers, Rob.

Well, and for what do they use the volta? I mean, nice if they have 132% more performance in their application, sadly this says absolutely nothing about the performance gain we will see in games or even in ESP based simulators. Just take the CUDA cores as an example: 5120. The 1080Ti has 3584. This is "only" an increase of 43%. Then the memory bandwith will only be tremendously higher if HBM is used, otherwise, with GDDR6, it will not be that much higher. I am pretty sure that a 2080Ti will be again about 50-60% faster compared to a 1080Ti, about the same the 1080Ti is faster than a 980Ti. If it is a little bit more, nice to have. But I am almost sure that we will not see anything near 100%...

and if you move up the sliders one notch, the fps will be even the same... but I am curious to see what the next generation will bring, maybe DL on and 8 x SSAA possible?

Regarding 8x SSAA : with 3 monitors I have it enabled on my 1080 TI OC and the card can handle it with around 80-90% load ( 4 cloudlayers ASP4 / clouds 32 bit 1024 )

Fully support the comment I use 8xSSAA in 4k which is an even heavier load than 5760x1080 though I do crank it back to 4xSSAA for the nighttime profile with the NGX.

The Twin Otter which I like to fly low at night and enjoy the scenery handles the 8xSSAA ok in the exact same scenario. Don't know what the technical difference is myself, I guess the 738 software is more taxing overall (as many people have often stated here about the PDMG products)?

Think that the Otter is just a man drinking his beer while the PMDG737 is your wifes' mind...

LOL tho the more I think about it  - a man produces most of his greatest ideas whilst drinking beer not whilst trying to understand his missus.

AVSIM needs a pessimist button, never seen so many people so negative so much of the time ... SSAA is entirely GPU dependent, DL is almost entirely GPU dependent ... hence a significantly better GPU will provide significantly better FPS in those two P3D V4.x feature options.

My GP102 GPUs are significantly better at SSAA and DL compared to my GP104 GPUs ... I would expect to see the same or more from Volta (V100).

Cheers, Rob.

With current hardware - such as a 1080Ti - 8x MSAA and aircraft dynamic lighting cause no issues with well-designed scenery. It's only multiple airport dynamic lights (like ESSA, as we discussed above), or AA levels above this, that bring the GPU usage up to its current limit. With the next generation of hardware, even these barriers will not be a problem.

Rob thanks for this information could you recommend the timeframe I should hold off upgrading my cpu/mobo/gpu?  my current system is 5 years old and I'd like to upgrade by next summer.
