Windows 10 1709 = 50% loss of FPS in P3Dv4.1 ?

Frustrated by the low FPS issue in P3D4 on Windows 10 1709 (16299.64) and not having any clue as to why, I decided to fallback to Windows 10 1703 (15063.674) and everything is back to normal.

I don't know what to tell you, I'm running 4.1 on the very same build and am having no problems, mine updated to that build about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Never noticed any difference in FPS

Hi Jim, there is possibly something specific to my hardware that caused P3Dv4 to not perform well on 1709. Today, I updated a few drivers and my BIOS, which contains some new CPU microcode. I might give 1709 another go next week.

I first installed Windows 10 at version 1507 about 2 years ago and never had any problem upgrading to subsequent versions, until 1709.

Hello Normand,

Just to let you know I have exactly the same issue (with similar hardware as yours).

50% FPS lost in P3DV4.1 after Windows 1709. Will revert back to 1703 when back to home.

Guys, did you really consider the tipps the people gave in this thread? Did you delete both your shaders and prepar3d.cfg after the update?

Updated yesterday and no problems. I did however run ccleaner after the update. Also ran disk optimization and cleared files as well as system files which include the direct x shader cache. That might be it considering it’s likely GPU related.

Guys,

From my personal experience when I upgraded my WaterCooled PC to 1709 I started experiencing a lot of problems:

  • Blue Screens
  • CTD
  • Random reboots.
  • PD3 Freezing

After days of troubleshooting my system is now stable, it seems Windows 10 1709 is pushing the hardware in a different way as I had to readjust my CPU Overclocking from 4.6Ghz to 4.5Ghz to make it stable again.

As a test I reverted Windows to a previous version, put the OC back to 4. Ghzand the system was ok, installed 1709 one more time and the CTD and Blue Screens came back.

To get my system fully stable this is what I did:

1) Update my motherboard BIOS to the latest version to address microcode issues.

2) Re-Adjusted my OC to a lower speed

3) Update all my drivers to the latest version including the NVidia video card.

Best Regards,
Simbol

I haven’t read the release notes in detail but something tells me there was a major update to Direct X in the 1709 build. Explains why so many have hardware related issues suddenly.

No 1709 for me either

Don't have FPS issues but issues with Vsync and stuttering!

For example , if  I leave Vsync off and lock FPS at 60 , major screen tearing and waviness ( did not have this issue with 1703)

I normally run large payware planes with Vsync on and unlimited FPS . Then major lag and stutter in turns ( again no issue with 1703).

Therefore , re-installed Windows ( as trying to revert back from 1709 was a disaster where my P3d key was deleted and now I am stuck without a sim for this weekend- had to contact LM to re-activated my key)

Staying with 1703 and NOT upgrading .

Sure seems like a vsync issue to me also on my 1080ti on Sony 4K. Tried rolling back to 1703 and the was a mess. Sticking with 1709 for now.

FYI - with the latest Nvidia driver 388.71 I had Vsync and Gsync issues on many titles. I have gone back to 388.59 and will stick with that for now. I don't use P3D any more but thought the info might be useful.

be sure that "game mode" is not activated, on my pc the game mode makes P3D4 unplayable.

Thanks! I hadn't flown since Christmas - I have been away, came back, Windows updated and my 100% perfect P3D4.4 with mainly Orbx suddenly became full of stutters. WFT!!!!

Somehow the PC had gone into Game Mode.

I ticked the box to Disable the Full Screen Optimizations in the application properties as also suggested in this thread. Now my sim is as smooth as butter again - Sooo happy! Thanks!!!!

I'm locking this thread, since it relates to an 18-month old Windows update that's been superceded twice since.
