So we're calling the new sim FSX now? Or does that mean they're just taking over the publishing of FSX on Steam, and this announcement has nothing to do with the new MSFS? It's a bit ambiguous...

Yes, they are taking over FSX. Why is beyond me. It's a diminishing product. Maybe they want full control over the brand.

No, they can't call it FSX. The X stands for version 10, and the new MSFS is version 11 or 12 (if you count in Flight). If it will be

called FSXI or FS12 or simply MSFS or whatever is another matter.

I got a good laugh out of that one lol! That's not how programming works. You can't just dump code from a different game using a different engine to speed up work on a game that's using tech 14 years ahead. It would actually be easier and faster to do things from scratch on the new engine. Gotta love how you're speaking with with certainty lol.

Of course you can. Every real professional does it. Done that myself all the time during my professional developer (30+) career.

Writing everything from scratch is simply stupid.

I'm a little confused..

So, am I correct in saying that Microsoft will be distributing FSX, as well as a new MSFS sim?

I wonder if they’re going to grab all the development back from Lockheed and plow it into FSX

I would not be surprised if LM eventually replaces P3D with the new MSFS, provided the latter will be successful.

With a new agreement with MS of course.

Yes.

They can also kill FSX off on Steam.

written by a 10 year old. Why all the hate for fSX fellas ? I stiI use it for pmdg and in dx10 mode runs like a dream and use xp11 as well .FSX pulled out of it's grave by Microsoft is nothing Short of amazing

It’s child’s play.

Fs9 came out, FS2002 was dead...

FSX comes out...FS9 is dead....

P3D comes out, FSX is dead...

so by that analogy, sorry to say..P3D is almost dead, right?

yeh, no.

Fsx was the longest running sim before anything else was available after it. There was not a wait of around 10 years from fs9 to Fsx....

therefore....90% of the users here were running FSX the longest. FSX was there day to day, everyday sim.

And look at the beat down those people now want to give FSX.

yeh right....before P3D, if FSX didn’t work you were close to tears....

show some decency.

If MS managed to get Fsx into 64bit, fix dx10...well I’m all set. I’d have to buy no add ons ( for the umpteenth time...cough P3D..cough).

I still use Fsx daily as there are many add ons that are (still) not available in P3D, and the add ons that are available FROM Fsx > P3D is just a cash grab

Anybody has the right to build an entirely new flightsimulator. But down through the years MS flight simulators have almost always been very much like their previous version. In other words there is a strong family resemblance. To do this they needed to own the rights.

In order to do the same thing this time, to build a simulator that has a real family resemblance to FSX, they had to retrieve the rights to FSX from DG.

This move by MS is very satisfactory to me. It seems to indicate to those like me who have loved MSFS in the past over the years, are going get a hopefully very much improved version of an old friend. Instead of something completely different.

Yay!

Why do some people keep saying things like this? Microsoft have always had the right to do anything that they wish with FSX. Dovetail Games purchased a licence to use the FSX code. Nothing more.

And that 5 year licence has expired, so FSX, reverts back to Microsoft. Nothing was 'retrieved'. It was just the end of a licensing agreement.

Although it is a massive coincidence that they announce a new simulator as the licensing deal for FSX was about to expire.

Specs: 11900K (5ghz), 64GB ram 3600mhz, RTX 3080 ti

No coincidence.. Part of a well thought out business plan.

Not how it works. DT has invested good money optimizing and developing add ons for fsx . cost them not much to keep it  with a nod from MS and a new agreement

MS pulled the rug
