October 26, 20196 yr Hope the mods don't mind me starting a new topic, I know this has been briefly discussed in the "what we want" topic. But I'm confused... I don't seem to be able to find anything about this from Asobo or MS. Does anybody know what exactly they have confirmed? I've heard it said there will be "no seasons". This seems weird to me. Flight Sim without seasons would be bonkers. It's one of the main features of the sim we know and love. So you download real world weather, which in your location is the middle of the winter, in a heavy snow storm, and you see snow falling but the foliage is as green as a summers day! What! That sounds bonkers to me. Or are they saying that it will be just the vegetation that will be verdant and not change colour or lose foliage and that the ground itself will be snow covered and the textures will change colour? Or seasonal daylight hours not present? Bit confused.
October 26, 20196 yr Short answer is: We don't know yet. Right now the only seasonal thing that is included from what we've heard is the position of the sun, so in winter the days will be short. But changing tree colors, making water frozen and adding snow to the ground and objects is technical feasible in their engine. Whether it will be available at launch is partially dependent on the priority given to certain features. They said seasons came in second after VR though, so it's high on the list the users want. You can hear all about it in this interview: https://www.flightsim.com/images/features/msfdev/FlightSim.com-Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_Interview_AUDIO.m4a?fbclid=IwAR0uX67nKaUdX2dqlAy1shcD9ciPVDfr0-1SG-dhryutuquFP7wyy15WP-s It answers some important questions, like how the sim will perform on certain hardware. TL;DR; You won't need a super computer to run the sim.
October 26, 20196 yr Here's an interesting bit from ORBX' John Venema on that matter (related to their forthcoming EGPH Edinburgh) https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/165729-to-season-or-not-to-season-that-is-the-community-question/page/9/?tab=comments#comment-1581887 I suppose he is one of those handpicked people already having access to the sim in some way. I would read off two things out if this statement: (i) The initial release of MFS will come with summer only, (ii) ORBX will adapt their airport collection (or part of it) to MFS. Both not unexpected, but kind of a soft confirmation. October 26, 20196 yr I doubt John vedama has any special access to the sim. It just looks like he’s repeating what he’s read or heard elsewhere. All Asobo have said is that all the elements of seasons are technically poussin or in their engine but hasn’t been looked at yet. I don’t even think they’ve said it won’t be there in the release version per se.
October 26, 20196 yr While I didn't read it that way,you may be right. As Flamingpie states, time will tell. October 26, 20196 yr I'll scream if there are no seasons in FS2020. With everything else looking so good, along with the powerful new atmospheric engine, it would be a disaster not to release with seasons. Same with the night lighting- I caught a glimpse of how some roads look the same as they do in X-plane at night- just lights, completely unrealistic. I hope they fix that too. I mean if not, all X-plane needs to do is copy the streaming idea, improve weather and add some seasons, and bam, I don't have to change sims.
October 26, 20196 yr Xp11 roads look great...what do you mean? Personally the night time lighting I saw in the most recent video... no other sim comes even close.
October 26, 20196 yr I’m not going to take anything JV says to the bank until we learn more about third party partners and how involved OrbX is (or isn’t). Its possible he knows some behind the scenes stuff.. It is also possible sour grapes are coloring his every remark right now.
October 26, 20196 yr It was in one of the videos released by the people who went to the preview event. I don't remember who, sorry. But they said the Devs said Seasons might not make it into the game for launch, but it is a planned feature to be added eventually. Edited October 26, 20196 yr by Tuskin38

As you say, technically feasible and second place request after VR. So essentially will be added as priorities allow,
