The "snow" appears to be generated procedurally which will allow for different depths and coverage. Which we already knew. We asked for seasons and they said we would have them but not necessarily at launch.
January 4, 20206 yr Exactly. We have seasons and that’s the death knell for x-plane. p3d and it’s patch city history that hasn’t solved anything is right behind it. Hello for the first time in history, a real flight simulator.
January 4, 20206 yr I doubt this was some poker face thing where they've had working seasons for months or something, and just hid that fact. More likely they responded to the immediate feedback around potentially no seasons at launch, and this was their way of announcing that a) they have at least a working internal prototype for winter now, and b) seasons (or at least winter) are now planned to be present at launch
January 5, 20206 yr The trees still look green though in Central Park...! Is it possible we have snow but no seasons? Like non-summer vegetation? Chris Camp

January 5, 20206 yr Devs: we won’t have seasons at the beginning Simmers: I will not buy without seasons meh Devs: here a trailer with snow showing we work on seasons and we hear you Simmers: that’s not seasons Some people here are just embarrassing Lukas Dalton
January 5, 20206 yr The technology they are using should be able to layer trees and the ground with a brownish shade for fall. This latest video looks more like a proof of concept. It's obviously a WIP. At this point, why doubt them when they keep delivering? Edited January 5, 20206 yr by bonchie
January 5, 20206 yr The video is just a teaser. Just wait for the Discovery Series: Seasons if you want details about the feature. People complaining here really think, after all they have said, they would implement just the snow?! I’m sure there’s more than that when they finish the work on that front. 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

No, those who point out that snow is a "weather phenomenon" not a "season" are being factual, using common sense, they are not "embarrassing". Again... "snow" is NOT a "season". Snow frequently appears in all seasons dependant on the geographical location, altitude and latitude and weather variability. Snow is "weather". Quote Devs: here a trailer with snow showing we work on seasons and we hear you No! That is just an assumption on your part. Look again at the video. What do you see? look at the leaves on trees. You see leaves that are a lovely verdant green. As the snow (WEATHER) front comes in, you see the leaves remain the same lovely verdant green. This is just a time lapse of a weather event approaching and accumulating on the same green foliage. It is not a time lapse of a season. The developer could just as easily be simply showing us that they can now generate snow as part of the weather engine, with no intention of demonstrating they are working on seasons at all. Likewise, it is possible that the developer is showing us a "weather event" that is one aspect of their ongoing work to replicate seasons. But we cannot jump to conclusions based on a mere weather event. For example: RAIN is more frequent in some seasons than others. So when the developer showed us videos of a rainstorm, did we throw our arms in the air and proclaim "seasons"? No we didn't, it was just rain. Likewise if we see snow and no other evidence of seasonal changes in foliage, its just snow. Now if in the video, instead of a time lapse of a weather event, we had seen a time lapse of a SEASON passing by, with seasonal snow storms, and changes in the colour of foliage, and even the loss of leaves on trees... I too would be proclaiming that the developer is demonstrating seasons. Will we get seasons? The developer has never said we would never get seasons. They said they couldn't promise seasons for release. The community complained and pointed out that seasons were a must. So the developer agreed they would do their best to give us seasons upon release, but no promises. So yes, we know they are working on seasons. And no, snow as a weather event in a video is not necessarily evidence of that. In fact it is absolutely possible that upon release, you get snow if the weather engine deems it appropriate but nothing else that relates to season at all. No changes in foliage colour, no loss of leaves, no changes in the colour of ground textures nothing. Personally. given the rapidity in which they seem to be able to add features, I think we will have seasons upon release. But that's just my feeling.

January 5, 20206 yr If MSFS is going to have accurate seasonal vegetation changes, they will have to take into account that in some places, the changes are opposite to what would normally be expected. In Southern California, wild grasses on hillsides are dry and brown in summer, and become lushly green in in late fall when the rainy season begins, and remain that way through winter.
