April 17, 20206 yr I find the new P3D very touchy when trying to change anything. If on the start screen I try to go to options, it ctd's, when loaded if I try to change a/c it ctd's or try to add scenery, again ctd. Anyone else? John
April 17, 20206 yr John, There is something going on here, I suffer from unknown CTDs or just shut-downs without any messages or errors that I can find in Windows. I noticed most of them are related when I change some graphics settings inside the sim. Anybody-else? 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
April 18, 20206 yr Same here unfortunately. I'd say it's crashed 6/10 times so far and often after loading at 100% or pretty much any chance to scenery or loading to a newly installed airport

Delete the Prepar3d.cfg file and start over. It's possible that you chose some combination of settings that are causing the CTD.
April 18, 20206 yr I too have had more that a couple. For me in 4.5, never. Too bad really because in some way this version shines, but in other it seems a step backwards.
April 18, 20206 yr On a fresh installation with no mods, I get CTD when i switch aircraft after flying for a while in another aircraft, change settings, after a few right clicks to access the menu or just random CTD's . I have seen a few threads on the LM forum with others complaining. most of my system error logs generate the following message Faulting application name: Prepar3D.exe, version: 5.0.21.34709, time stamp: 0x5e95060d Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.18362.778, time stamp: 0xafa78a6a Exception code: 0xc0020001 Fault offset: 0x000000000003a799 Faulting process id: 0x4ebc Faulting application start time: 0x01d6149dd9582b50 Faulting application path: B:\Prepar3D v5\Prepar3D.exe Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\KERNELBASE.dll Report Id: 7e23430e-0764-40f8-badd-91afe94a427f Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:
April 18, 20206 yr Yes, me too. It is really great to fly looks great, but very unstable at the moment. Seems I'm not the only one aaargh! I guess like most people I am trying different settings in flight, but surely it should be able to allow this without crashing? I have switched off Enhaced Atmospherics, which seem to promoite VRAM CTDs, but this happens when I am eg changing view outside, or adjusting sttings. If shoudln't be that unstable?? Should it? ray
April 18, 20206 yr I think I may have found a solution, but am still testing it but it seems to have reduced my CTD's thus far. if you use Riva tuner statistics for frame rate monitoring, try disabling it and see if it helps. I have the nvidia and RTS on at the same time so i disable RTS onscreen display and my CTD's seem to have reduced.

Thanks for the suggestion 🙂 Would deleting the prepar3d.cfg file and allowing it to rebuild affect any of the add on airports & ORBX? I didn't manually edit the file at all so want to avoid deleting it if I'd have reinstall everything
April 18, 20206 yr Deleting prepar3d.cfg will not affect either your installed aircraft or scenery library. All your image quality and other settings contained in the user interface will be reset to the recommended settings for your hardware. Once you have the sim working correctly, make a backup copy of prepar3d.cfg so you can retrieve it if this happens again. If deleting prepar3d.cfg does not allow the sim to start correctly, you may have something else wrong with your p3d5 installation, so check back and ask for further help.
April 18, 20206 yr This version is driving me insane trying to find a suitable VRbalance CTDs all over the place related to Vram so you are not alone bugged to hell real alpha stuff Colin hodds I7 9700K,nvidia 3090 ,ssd ,32gig 3200mhz ram ,win10,prep3d
April 18, 20206 yr Author My CTD's were caused by something on my computer. I redid everything including a reinstall of Windows 10. Everything looks good now.
April 18, 20206 yr After several very stable flights using no weather engine I tried pointing the Rex Sky Force engine at p3dv5 and had two flights end in p3d. One was a kernelbase.dll crash and the other was something I hadn’t seen before...maybe utilities.dll? After the second one I tried without Rex weather and successfully completed a flight. Keep in mind this is a small sample size so not definitive of course but it’s what I can contribute so far. April 18, 20206 yr I have had no CTD’s or VRAM OOMs while flying yet, but there is definitely something strange with the opening scenario selection screen. The preview image of the aircraft rotates as always, but the rotation speed is extremely slow. When selecting a new airport, there is a long pause before the airport list appears. I’ve been half expecting a crash at that point, but it hasn’t happened yet. Jim BarrettLicensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic, Avionics, Electrical & Air Data Systems Specialist. April 19, 20206 yr I had CTD when trying to use any of the tabs in the top menu bar. Found bad install of new FSUIPC6. Deleted that and did a new install of it and problem solved.
