Challenging call with Default KORS and Orbx KORS

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

This is gonna be an interesting sim.  The default airports vs third party airports on some regions.  I guess we need to compare default with payware before commiting.

Default KORS here below looks so much similar with Orbx KORS.  Same goes for LOWI vs Orbx LOWI.  Only one other airport I found where Payware wins is EGLC. The default is using some apartment buildng type texture.

Below is Orbx Kors

But, notice all the missing airport buildings in the default airport. This is a bug IMO as the AI should have placed appropriate buildings there. Many airports in MSFS are missing autogen buildings that are visible in the underlying orthos. Also, Orbx models the boats. I agree that custom GA airports don't make as much difference as they did in Prepar3d or Xplane.

Yeah I get where the OP is coming from.  In the new sim we have the photo scenery textures so automatically, even default airports can look ok from a distance.  But up close is where Orbx looks a LOT better.  Have you guys noticed at these little strips (default)....the hangars aren't even hangars?  They're like warehouses and small residential buildings.  lol.

Probably part of the reason they're cheaper for MSFS.

I am pretty happy with default small airports and grass strips. I will only buy major hubs that are not part of the premium package and only when study level airliners are available that is.

KORS is old orbx.

For payware to be attractive, you need something cutting edge. For example, a lot of the more recent p3d airports have modelled interiors, so thats the sort of thing i want to see if i’m paying to upgrade.

orbx does look better of course but not like I feel I need to pay up for it. I have the non orbx version of orca don´t remember who was behind it for FSX since before. FS 2020 stock looked so much better and its probably the best looking scenery for FSX I got :)

There is other areas where bing maps is to poor though. And despite that I was able to vfr in my home town though it did require some guess work for sure. The bing maps in sweden in general is of very low quality but still compared to anything else still way better.

No contest, though the default looks nice, the ORBX looks great and has a bit more defined detail. It fits in just perfectly. The price is pretty amazing too as I own it in P3D.

I tend to agree....there's a lot of differences between those two pics.  And that's not even including close up structures on the airport.  I think their pricing is fair.

@OzWhitey why would you want the interior of an airport structure modeled?  I'm not trying to be rude just genuinely curious.   I mostly fly GA so that kind of thing is something I don't care about.

Orbx is still much nicer, but a lot of the default airports (definitely not all) are indeed more usable now.

KORS...

Take off, stay low at pattern altitude, fly a bearing of 196 deg for 5 nm. You have a strip hemmed in trees at Clam Harbor which is worth trying.

I wonder how it looks in the new sim.

Hi Ryan. It adds a lot to immersion when you've got your airliner parked at the gate. If you think about it, most airports real world have transparent windows and things inside the building, right? 🙂

When you're waiting for the pax, you're sitting their staring straight at those windows.

It used to be a rare feature, now I'd say it's part of most of the better P3D airports that I've purchased this year.

I'm flying MSFS in NC at the moment, but if I get a chance I'll head over there later!

The default KORS looks good from above, but on the ground its just so bland compared to the ORBX version. Night and day.
