August 19, 20205 yr I spent a little bit of time watching the "gamer kiddies" on Twitch have a go with the new hot Flight Sim yesterday. It was extremely interesting. Here we sit as experienced simmers and real-world pilots miffed at how limited the default planes are in terms of flight model and systems depth. Meanwhile the truly inexperienced are holding on with a white-knuckle death grip screaming at the mystifying complexities of the Cessna 152 😄 First, they weren't helped by the extreme control sensitivity. A lot of them were, in fact, using an Xbox controller, some a keyboard and mouse only. But they kept with it. One guy had 50k+ viewers watching him. I checked back a couple of hours later and he'd started to get the hang of controlling the plane well enough and had a swarm of...who knows? 50-100+ viewers in the sim multiplayer flying around the Great Pyramids. He was having a blast! Later on in the evening, the light switch had flipped on, he's still on Flight Sim still having fun and commenting that there is no game out there that looks this cool. No game has ever delivered the world that looks as accurate and gorgeous. This is coming from a guy better known for competitive shooter and fast twitch games. A variation of this same pattern repeated itself across a few streams I watched. That's when it hit me...this is exactly what our little genre needs. Pure, ridiculous fun for people who don't know the first thing about flying an airplane This is not the ONLY thing our genre needs from MSFS. But let's face it, despite the legitimate frustrations of many long times simmers from what was delivered in the initial release, we are all going to be here for the long run as long as the developer keeps their commitment to refining and expanding the platform. We'll all stick around long enough to see third parties deviler the complexity that is lacking in the default airplanes. We'll all stick around despite the hyperbole of declaring this sim "hot garbage"...don't even lie. You know it's true. Edited August 19, 20205 yr by snglecoil Crimes against gammer Chris

Why is it that people on beforehand start to sort of excuse the developers by saying 'it's not to be expected to simulate an airliner with high fidelity'. Why not? This is supposed to be the greatest flight sim release since 15 years. This is exactly what I would expect it to do, to simulate an airliner with high fidelity. And how much are you willing to pay? As it stands right now.....high fidelity add ons for the two airliners on the new sim cost 134 USD each. August 19, 20205 yr Man listen if you get any golf related products in the sim you better be prepared to see a 2 mile long post about how tiger woods was on YouTube trying to golf on MSFS2020 and he said that the ball simulated in FS2020 is not really as rounded out as the real golf ball is .... and the funny thing is that there’s going to be a few IKEA pilots and golf players that will agree with it just to stear things up . August 19, 20205 yr Well, I've been simming "since 1776" and I welcome the newcomers to our wonderful world of flight simming. The more the merrier. These newcomers don't really need a PMDG quality airliner to have fun. Or even an especially good one. We had plenty of fun with the default airliners in FSX and previous. The MSFS airliners are only as good as they need to be, and that's all that is necessary. Of course there are still a few bugs in the autopilot... 😄 But you can't fly a 747 inverted under the Golden Gate Bridge on autopilot. At least I don't *think* you can, I've always done it manually. 😄 Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

They have a limited amount of resources and time. If they want this to be successful, they have to broaden out and cater to the masses. The majority of gamers that come to MSFS will be more pleased to see a variety of airplanes than a single study-level 737 (that, when crafted by another company, would cost more than the current simulator itself)... Plus, if they spent all of their resources on developing this one airplane, surely other areas of the sim would be lacking and contain even more bugs. They wanted to make the airplanes flyable and somewhat accurate, and that's what they did. You shouldn't be expecting a $60 simulator to be giving you several $100+ study-level-quality airplanes. It just isn't possible for them. Their focus is the base sim so that 3rd party developers can come in and do the job they do best (as they are the experts - the engineers at PMDG are FAR better at creating an accurate 737 than the Asobo devs - that's just how it works - they have experience). I hope nobody was expecting study level planes in the base sim. What we got is still pretty incredible. The fact that every plane has a functioning FMC-type system with SIDs and STARs and has most electrical systems simulated is great.
