Featured Replies

Sorry to create a thread for this, but figured people should know there are updates for ORBX EGLC and London Landmarks (and others) in Central.

Changelogs

EGLC London City Airport

  • New 15cm updated ortho
  • Runway start points correctly placed
  • PAPIs now have correctly glideslope
  • Adjusted TDZ markings
  • Terminal glass now more opaque
  • POI lighting should now not be on during daylight
  • Fixed pontoon texture
  • Glowing POI walls fixed
  • Reinstated NAV/COM data

Landmarks London City Pack

  • Reinstated the default POIs (Tower of London, Tower Bridge, The Shard, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, O2)
  • Dimmed the night textures to better match the default lighting
  • Fixed the height of the BT Tower
  • Added the Dartford Crossing Bridge
  • Added London and Wembley Stadiums
  • HMS Belfast orientated correct way

KTIW Tacoma Narrows

  • PAPI glide slope corrected
  • Fixed error where scenery was not being recognised in-sim under certain scenarios

All these updates have been submitted to Microsoft for inclusion in the Marketplace and will appear in due course.

Our Landmarks London pack has received quite a lot of attention and we are going to explore how we can improve on aspects such as higher definition models, particularly for the more prominent POIs, while maintaining high performance in the sim.

Please note that there are still items in the pack such as bridge placements and areas where the Thames is not flat and we are working with Asobo to rectify that.

The past week has been quite the learning journey for us and we appreciate everyone's support and patience.

Some people will say they should have done it right the first time and that's not an outrageous opinion to hold. However, to be fair to Orbx, they do listen and make changes.

Thank you Orbx. I work for a well known aviation company that is known globally for being on the top of the industry, and even we don't always get it right. Sometimes we fail, and when we do we own it and work like heck to fix it. You know why? Because we are human, and sometimes humans fail. Orbx has owned the London issue, and they are fixing it. Thats good'nuff in my book. It's also probably why I own nearly everything they have put out, and will continue to.

Fair play Orbx but yes, they should know better to release a product like London landmarks in the state that they did regardless of cost however, they rectified the issue quickly realising there error.
The important thing is, is that we hold them to account and not accept any quick hashed together products anymore, not for this simulator we know you can do better, so do better.

Right, time to pick this up! It can be bought in Orbx Central and imported to MSFS immediately, right?

What, don't release rubbish and expect to get away with it?

I don't know much about Orbx, having skipped the last 12 in years in simulation terms, but it was the breathtaking arrogance they displayed as much as the quality of the shovelware that I found frustrating. Is that typical of them?

Anyway, at least they're on the way to resolving the issues, even if that does mean, for now, they're simply removing items from the London pack.

Any news on whether they're reinstating the true undulating nature of the runway at EGLC which is present in the default scenery but not their payware version?

I'd like to find this out too, also about the other airports that are currently on sale from OrbX & Flightbeam. Most of the runways in MSFS (and in real life, I presume) are slightly undulating, and I really like this effect.

Ahh but, but, but... consider this.

The whole of London is LONDON CTR SFC 2500'

What building definition are you going to see from 2700 ft ?

Orbx have included the 'just necessary' detail of London POI so they are recognisable from >2500'.

For seven quid, its a bargain.

I am surprised that the Dartford Crossing (QE2 Bridge), Olympic Stadium and Wembley Stadium were not included in the initial release of London Landmarks. Those are quite significant (and rather obvious) omissions. Having said that, I could say the same to Asobo.....

Any pics of the improved landmarks?

I've had a look in the Marketplace to see if there are any updates, but as of yet, I see nothing.

Does anybody know, if I download and install ORBX Central, will it recognize the purchases that I did through the Marketplace?

Thanks,

Andrew.

I did a couple videos...they're not from 50' above the Thames, they're of a departure and arrival out of EGLC. I was happy before and I'm even happier now with how London looks compared with default.

I much prefer the Orbx versions of the Tower of London and Palace of Westminster from height.  The default versions look too precise like they were built yesterday.  The Tower is almost 1000 years old and the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament and BIG Ben) over 200 years old and it shows in real life.  The default versions are just ridiculously shiny.  The orbx versions just needed a couple of tweaks and they'd have been fine.
