So if the update is showing in game it wasn't all just a click bait video. What in the world is making it that big? Wow!

I'm sure Bing has much better imagery than what we're being shown. Why they won't stream it, is a mystery to me.

What I see is taken directly from Bing Maps, with some modifications. I can tell because Bing Maps in my region is a mishmash of "puzzle pieces" taken at different times of year, some in the dead of winter. I can tell that the developers went in and added fake green color to the regions that were snow covered when photographed, but it's still very obvious its the same imagery. Same goes for the change in detail from high res to low res imagery. It's so bad in spots that I actually use Bing Maps on the web to decide where I'm going to fly based on the quality of the maps over regions of interest.

But maps are not part of the client software. The whole revolution with MSFS is that the map data is streamed from Azure to the clients. Only the most basic map data is downloaded to support offline mode.

But isn't even offline mode based on Bing maps, albeit at much lower resolution? At close to 100 GB, it has to be more than standard telemetry data that used to fit on two DVDs back in FSX days. 🤷‍♂️

It's showing total installed default content, not an update size.

Is the update really 80 GB huge?  Are you kidding me?  I bought the DVD version to avoid downloading all that data, which would take me a whole day. I accepted 16 GB of download after installing, but 80?  Come on, not everyone has a gigabit internet connection. What exactly takes up so much space?  It can't be the satellite images, since they are streamed on the fly. I hope I will have the option to not download the update after start, otherwise I would feel screwed.

The video is just clickbait, as the update tomorrow is just an announcement of the date of the update/patch release date.

79GB? waited, how much will this MSF2020 do in total of all the updates? 1TB?

The amount of labor involved in creating a system which could inject updated code into necessary files would put most game companies out of business.  So it's much easier to just delete, and replace files instead of "updating them"..  So to update a core of something as extensive as FS 2020 is going to cost you some bandwidth.

Come on guys...

When ever you are getting a message that Windows needs an update, it is not downloading the entire OS. It downloads just the parts that needs fixing.

It depends. There are some significant updates that takes hours!

Could care less how big or how long any update takes as long as it fixes all these issues and makes this thing usable! 🙂

It’s almost definitely not 80 GB and that thing on the content manager has nothing to do with the update as far as I can tell.

Everyone is being misled on this ahh 😕 everyone pretend like nobody mentioned an update and then whatever they send out tomorrow evening will make sense.

Just to reiterate: there is NO way this update will be 80 GB. That assumption is based on false / misleading information. People looked at the content manager and saw that the SIZE of the CORE SIM OBJECTS is 80 GB. It has a BUG that has been there since launch that says “restart to update” - restarting to update only works if an update is available, which it is not and will not be until whenever they say. And, it’s an UPDATE to the core sim files that are ALREADY 80 GB on your system, NOT an 80 GB download / update.

I could not agree with this statement less. It IS extremely usable ... just needs a little(lot) of fooling around with controller and keyboard set up and mappings.  That at least was my situation.

Instead of your very broad statement, can you enlighten us regarding your problems.  I am very sure that there are people here who could turn your experience around so that you can truly enjoy this sim. They certainly changed my attitude.

I admit that the aircraft are not study level, but then again, which default aircraft in any sim are.  In any event, they are very much better than any other sims default aircraft in my opinion.

I wish you better luck with your next attempt and, like you, I hope the update, regardless of size, begins(and I stress "begins")  to fix problems.  It is NOT in any way "unusable" Just bear in mind that we have yet to encounter the perfect sim which does not need some fixes.
