The great wall of China is no more...

Featured Replies

Was it there pre-update? It's somewhere I hadn't explored yet.

It was not there before either, I could only find a line instead of a wall when I looked for it last weekend.

You can`t have everything or you will have no reason to buy the next version.

Well...  It didn't stop the virus anyway - useless!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

That really needs to be there since its the one man-made structure that is visible to aliens in space.

Set your Display to 60Hz and VSYNC to half refresh rate and you'll see the Wall!

It has to be hand drawn because the autogen can't distinguish it for what it is.  I went looking for it around Badaling, which is the main wall area close to Bejing.  I climbed the Great Wall there in 2001.  If you look close enough and compare with Bing/Google maps, you'll see where autogen will actually put some "square buildings" on the square areas where the "towers" on the wall are.  However, most of the "line" of the wall is covered by Autogen trees.

Perhaps someone with a Great Wall passion will add it as a scenery add-on, or at the very least, in the areas where the "tourist" portions of the wall are.

And while it IS visible from space, if you look at the satellite data for the area, it's hard to pickout because detailed high res pictures of that area doesn't exist.  So it's really tough for the scenery generator to make out.  At best, we would have seen it as a road with buildings sitting in the middle, and probably cars running up and down it.

In case you're serious, you should know that's a myth.  You can't see the Great Wall from space.

What "next version" would that be Ray? Like Win10, there are no plans for a new version.

It's not visible from space, btw.  A quick Google will tell you that it ceases to be visible a few 10's of KMs up; the ISS is at 3 or 400, I think.  Standard myth debunked.

But in the sim I flew NE from Beijing the other day and just dallied about in the fantastic foothills and mountains there - and am reasonably convinced there was some (albeit flat) GWoC footprints there.  Great fun to go find that, and I do hope someone makes some 3d models to support it.

Surprising it didn't render as a 13,000 mile long office block.
