September 29, 20205 yr here's another screenshot of my start of the Japan Tour. Tree's clearly visible on distant hills. LOD set to 100 Maybe higher resolutions are affected. I'm running 1080p on a GTX 1660 with 6GB VRAM. Edited September 29, 20205 yr by wthomas33065
September 29, 20205 yr Yes I noticed it the LOD have gotten worse somehow. Although the posts above indicate there isn't any improvement in FPS with this change, it sounds like the kind of change that would be made in order to bring about improved frame rendering speed. And since they are modifying the platform for VR support after the fact, as opposed to baking it in from the beginning, they are going to have to hunt for performance gains anywhere they can be found. Although you'd expect such changes to be tied to VR mode being enabled or disabled, and leave the 2D monitor users in peace. Stoopy as soon as I fired up post P3...at a small low asset regional airport...I lost 7 FPS, from my last P2 version. 7 FPS....in the toilet.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I know it's too late but I'd recommend never measuring your FPS again, ever. I still haven't, even though I was a dyed-in-the-wool FSX config file tweaker since the day it first came out. So tonight when I fire up and take my first flight in this version, I won't have lost anything I'm aware of. It really is bliss, like the man said. "That's what" - She

Paid out to finally have learned my lesson with anything tagged Microsoft.... Well, thank you for your feedback 👍 . The more time is passing and the more I read about this "flight-simulator" (honestly: to me it is a landscape-simulator) in various forums, the happier I become of not joining stalwartly this "new" Microsoft/Asobo venture. Taking a brake from gruelling flightsim hamster-wheels is such a pleasure .... All the best, ...and take it easy: there are other outstanding flightsims on the market already !
September 29, 20205 yr I know this is a stupid question but you aren't using GEFORCE Experience to optimize the product are you? I noticed that on my video card, it will overwrite settings in MSFS WITHOUT making those changes visible in the UI. The GEFORCE Experience tends to optimize for FPS, not visual quality. I understand your frustration, but I simply can't say I have been able to replicate your behavior. I hope you get it sorted.

I fully believe now...post P3...that this was NEVER near finished to be called a (R)elease (T)o (M)arket product on August 18th/2020......no way....no WAY, and to charge us the price we all paid for whatever version we settled upon, ...for ANY version of this...is beyond belief now...with the seen histrionics of it. This...was then...on August 18th...an UNFINISHED coding, a true definition of the term Early Access...clearly, this wasn't even to stretch the imagination...a BETA version(!), ....and now, what an insult and deception to us all...to be RTM'ed to the waiting enthusiasts. This was at the stretch...an Early Access Coding of MSFS...and the asking price, should have clearly reflected that. I personally, feel cheated and defrauded, this very moment. $183 .00 CDN...for this one broken patch after another...stumbling along (MSFS circus side show) ...this should have stayed in-house for another 6 months TO A YEAR, before foisting upon we unsuspecting all.....yeah, tonight, I'm mad as (word not allowed)! The (word NOT allowed) Dev's have SCALPED the LOD radius again, it seems by again in this 3rd patch--->HALF AS MUCH more than what was scalped in the 2nd patch! I am so disgusted with this sim.... Since RTM visuals...I have 25 percent of the content to the screen as seen if the plane is the epicenter. Look at this shot...with both LOD's at 200...trees and forestry doesn't even form 2-5 stinking miles from my aircraft...with the world beyond five miles absolutely BARREN...except for ground textures. At RTM, this area...had forestry and farm buildings practically to the horizon! This...is simply and utterly, DISGUSTING!!!! This is what I am seeing.... Personally I'm glad they released it when they did. I have had a lot of fun since release and still find the visuals superb. P3D doesn't come close to MSFS out of the box. Sure there is plenty to be fixed, but just look at the fixes in just over a month and now a detailed Japan! I don't understand why the LOD is not adjustable over a wider range of settings, rather than reduce it globally. I don't understand making global changes to LOD rather than increasing the range of LOD settings. Why not have LOD settings from 0 to 900 so EVERYBODY can adjust LOD to their PCs capability? When VR is included EVERYBODY can adjust LOD for their headset. September 29, 20205 yr Pre patch today, I had the sim looking fantastic using the tweak in the config file to extend LOD distances. I still use a 1080p HD monitor, and with a render setting of 150 and a sharpness value of .70 using Nvidia CP along with the LOD tweaks I've been thrilled with my adjustments after conceived changes in the sim post patch 2. Trees and buildings pretty much out to the horizon, little popping or fading and very acceptable frame rates in the 40's everywhere with Ultra settings. Today's patch 3 has once again changed everything, and as of right now I think it's possible Asobo has taken away the tweak in the config file as it no longer appears to be working. I am in the process of testing different values but they don't seem to do anything now. I will continue however to try different settings and test this further. I am bummed about this but haven't given up hope there is something that can be done to fix this again. The popping everyone is seeing isn't imagined, it's real and is very frustrating to see. It's just an immersion killer and I hate it.... Ken
