Mitch,

Maybe Rob can help you increase the LOD. There's a tweak for LOD. I see the same LOD that I saw in v1.

Yes, and thank you...it has been pointed out to me, I think on the second page of this thread. Thanks, D J! 🙂

Don't give up! We've been through this before. I gave up after a day the 1st time and now I'm happy with what I'm seeing.

I can't say I agree with the OP.  Here is a picture I took of the Missouri/Mississippi River Convergence where there used to be a "wall" due to inaccurate elevation data on the Missouri River.

Note how far the trees extend in this screenshot.  My settings were LOD 100, half of that of the OP.  So I can't really say that his experience is universal.

It is the post P3 LOD values that my post is addressing, and not prior other bugs such as water elevation inaccuracies.   Thanks! 🙂

Does that come at a performance cost, I actually have lost a few frames and it looks much worse after this update,

You missed my point.  I took that picture today investigating another issue.  That makes this post patch.  Yet the trees extend quite a ways from the plane and that is at LOD 100.  Half your value.  I was simply using that screenshot to show that trees extend quite far from the plane.

This might help you if you are willing to give it a try.  A pretty easy edit

I have tried that tweak and it makes no difference at all in my case (set it to 4 which is equivalent to 400 on LOD slider).  It did kill my frames though.  I have always had my LOD slider at 100 and never noticed any popping of trees in previous builds, they have always been visible many miles out where you would not really notice them being generated.  Now it is right under your nose.  For those not seeing the issue are you testing outside of a Photogrammery area?  This looks like an issue with the AI generated trees...

I didn't mention that...but I lost 7 FPS post P3.  Right outta the gate. I flew to Myrtle Beach through thick cloud formations, all the way at 27-29 FPS.  After P3...sitting at the airport of my choice...a small regional...I was at 22 FPS.  Gaining the sky...and over what you see in my pic...24 FPS. Something is incredibly wrong with P3. Perhaps a memory leak? Also, it wiped out the MAIN THREAD readings on the in-flight FPS display. Mostly totally red...and before P3...was yellow/green. P3 has introduced some serious under the hood take-backs, besides trimming even more LOD user controlled parameters.

First they did the night lighting super ultra mega downgrade from alpha 1 to alpha 2. Now they found terrain textures LOD to play with. Wrong?

Is it possible that all the servers are so maxed out with downloading the updates for so many users that bandwidth is constrained on the MS/Asobo end and this is causing the issue? Maybe it will clear up once most of the updates are pushed out to the majority of users.

Highly unlikely. The LOD issue and blurries have been ongoing for a while, you just have to monitor the official forums to read about it. Like I say, I noticed it a month or so back. Seems now more people are noticing it, as Asobo ‘adjust’ things periodically.

I can't help but wonder if these changes could be related to preparation for VR support, which is going to require better FPS capability than what we have now.  Although the posts above indicate there isn't any improvement in FPS with this change, it sounds like the kind of change that would be made in order to bring about improved frame rendering speed. And since they are modifying the platform for VR support after the fact, as opposed to baking it in from the beginning, they are going to have to hunt for performance gains anywhere they can be found.  Although you'd expect such changes to be tied to VR mode being enabled or disabled, and leave the 2D monitor users in peace.

Well, the whole things a mess. There are only so many times you can give ‘the benefit of the doubt’. I know it’s a revolutionary sim. I know it has good points. However, it has some pretty big fundamental flaws at the moment.
I wonder if Asobo have bitten off more than they can chew, or who really is breathing down their necks?

Certainly a point to take note of, but the LOD'S  take-down from P2, were prior to today...and we all know they were trimmed down like a garden hedge...

OP is right, of course, but the kool-aid drinkers in here will come up with different excuses to justify an early access game being priced at $120
